I went thru something similar working at forever 21 at the mall. I was 19 or so and the managers and staff were very clique-ish and instead of firing me they would purposely give me 4 hours a week, so to be petty I’d pick up every shift I could. Because of me they decided that you could only pick up shifts if it was first approved by a supervisor. They constantly moved items all around and criticized me for not knowing where stuff was like the back of my hand and I told them “how can I know where everything is if u only give me a few hours a week?” Another girl was also being treated poorly and we went in together on my birthday to air out all of our grievances and I told them that as a gift to myself I was never entering their store as an employee again. 😂 I was such a little punk haha

I was raised to say Sir and Ma’am as well however, now at our work places we are told not to say that to our customers anymore due to the changes going on in our world. So now I’m trying my hardest from not doing that anymore which sucks because to me that’s just a form of respect to call someone but now idk what to even say.

You could observe how others address them and honestly if you are corrected just apologize, I work as a customer service representative and I had someone kindly ask could I not address them as ma'am because they were transgender, the rest of our interaction I didn't use any gendered terms, most people understand our default is ma'am/sir (sorry for the long response 😂)

Nothing taught me to be nicer then moving to a new school. I spent the first 15 years of my life with the same friends same school etc. The summer before I turned 16 my Mom moved us a county over (literally 20 min away) into my stepdads house. I have never been treated so horribly suddenly being the "new girl" and the "popular kids" were horrendous simply because I was new and they didnt know me nor did they take the time to. It taught me to ALWAYS be kind because you never know what someone is going through. I made new friends outside of school and turned out okay. I am 36 now with a 12 year old daughter of my own and I have always taught her to be kind because it always stuck with me. No one wants to feel left out or hurt. I tell her that she doesnt have to be close to everyone she doesnt even have to like someone but you still be kind and accepting and never go out of your way to hurt someone. If she doesnt get along with someone then she doesnt need to deal with them and if she sees people being mean to someone you dont add to it, you help that person, you set the example and be kind. Kids arent perfect but I feel like thats the best thing we can do for our kids is to teach them empathy and respect.

I had a boss JUST like this with my first job ever when I was 15!! She literally was going off on a coworker of mine about something she thought I did wrong, but I didn't even work that day 😭 Also she told me to "clean out the freezer" with no other instructions, and I tossed moldy food, expired food that was years old, and real nasty stuff like super cold cut fruit in freezer bags that were unusable. She got so angry with me I threw stuff away, but she didn't tell me I couldn't or that I needed to write down what I got rid of, I felt like she kind of always set me up to faul 😅

I hella related to this story time tho because yesterday, my youngin self is working in the office for my high school as a TA and the lady in there is so unprofessional and she has two others TA’s too but she would favorite them and always pick on me and ME only. Telling me I did this and that wrong and just set me to the side from passes and had me file. I was so over it. I left that so quick. I was not trying to get talked down by some lady who don’t even has the right in the first place over some high school TA stuff for my senior year so I peace out and found me some else to do!
