For Moscuvites, the fall is all about walks through the changing birch trees. This simply action was appreciated by none more than Leo Tolstoy: one of the greatest authors not just of Russia but of any country on earth. His novels inspired the likes of pacifist and anarchist revolutionaries, stirred the culture ideas of religion, war and aristocracy decades before their fruit were even seen.
I got the chance in the same fall leaves that Tolstoy valued so highly to walk where he walked and see what he saw at his home and estate: Yasnaya Polyana, where it is almost as if he was simply out at the time for a walk. His clothes still laid out on his couch, and his workers still hard at work in the fields nearby.

This is really awesome. I really like the simplicity of the final resting site. Nothing lavish, but still beautiful in its own way. When I was younger, I went on a military deployment and took a copy of War and Peace wanting to read this book that was so well regarded. I probably read about an hour each day, maybe even a little more some days. But, after three months, I only got through a quarter of it. That's it. lol. I haven't tried reading any more of it since then and would likely have to start over. What I did read was really well done and looking forward to someday getting back to it and finishing it.

Wow I can't believe you took such a massive book on deployment! :O And yes, this place is exactly how I want to finish my ride, as well. Simple and calm, hopefully looking at something beautiful.

really good video! i remember back when i lived in belgorod i would always annoy my family so we could go here because i was a big fan of Tolstoy but they never had the time, so i just forgot about it; this place is so beautiful!! it's a shame we couldn't explore it, younger me would've been jumping in excitement at all of this cool stuff

I’m very very blessed and fortunate to have the chance! It’s a pretty big pain without a Russian license and even though I’ve been driving for almost 15 years I don’t have a death wish like trying to drive on the Russian highways and city’s haha so I’m beyond lucky 😅

10:31 the reason Vegans are preachy is because those around us who claim to love animals and decency are complicit in the barbaric treatment of the animals we eat. I see how you could think he wasn’t preachy if all you read were his “literary classics” but he did write extensively on the topic often more then these short blurbs I’ve copied for you to read if you are inclined “Eating animal is like eating a friend” “A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral.”
