How do you like playing your 325 vs full scale neck guitars ?

What tasty lines by George

That compressed Rickenbacker 325 sound is what made the Beatles; So aggressive and so expressive, sometimes sounding closer to an organ than a guitar.
@bojackhorseman5367Ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure on this track there's actually an organ in the mix doubling up John's guitar, which George Martin played. He used this technique of doubling the guitars with a keyboard part surprisingly often in the early days, although it's usually more obvious when they are layered against the lead guitar fills (such as the piano on songs like "you've really got a hold on me" and "misery" for example).

@@bojackhorseman5367 There is and it’s the first time a Hammond organ appeared on a Beatles song. It’s low in the mix, but at the end of the choruses you can hear George Martin slide down the keyboard. I wouldn’t be surprised if the settings were just the two brown drawbars. Some believe that he did the same on I Want to Hold Your Hand, but it’s more likely that the song had even more compression on the instrumental with John playing on the bridge pickup with the tone knob turned all the way down (he did that a lot with the tone knob). The reason their live performance of I Want to Hold Your Hand never sounded like the record is because it would be insane to put that much compression on a live performance, but you can easily recreate the effect.

A “simple” song like this is a perfect example of how the Beatles’ musical chemistry together just plain elevated what they were doing. As usual, Sam, your covers help us appreciate the nuances of their performances.

Went to see the Bootleg Beatles recently. Last time I saw them, the "Ringo" only did a lame and pointless version of "Yellow Submarine". This time up, they were featuring the second album starting with "It won't be long" and then the inevitable "All my loving" then "George" twanged (twung?) out that bent note and they launched into this without having to do an apologetic "Ringo's gonna do one now" intro and either their drummer has been taking singing lessons or they've replaced him with someone who can sing anyway, but it was mint!

I had the chance to perform this one live on stage as part of a "Meet the Beatles" Rock Camp. It's tons of fun to play it with a full band. Used my Gretsch Country Classic on lead at our first gig and a "Lennonized" Ric 330 for rhythm the second time (a 325's just to small for me.)

Great job with the cover! It really brings new insight into the song. Awesome descending octave hook aside, the guitar arrangements (lazy bends) and solo always felt to me a little shallow and rushed, but on seond thought it's not clear it was the kind of rocker song that could use a lot more.

Awesome man. How’s it going? By the way, is it mostly one of the Stratocasters and les paul you enjoy playing while standing up And can you do the same with your fender bass?? And can you do a future cover song where you play the fender precision bass with both fingers one part and a pick on the other

Thanks Sam - how do you like playing the 325 short neck ? I am considering replacing my old Telecaster. Do i get a Rick 350 instead of the 325. I want a versitle guitar but really like playing rhythm shuffle like on the lower chords (F &G). Is the 325 hard to play lead and chords on the upper neck ? thanks
@sampopkinАй бұрын
Thanks for that! Rickenbackers aren’t necessarily versatile, they are more specific. A telecaster can do a lot more That being said, the 325 is excellent for rhythm bar chord playing. It’s very small so you have to like the short scale. I wouldn’t buy one but they’re very cool
