@@PlsSpankMeh I agree. coloring, shading, lighting, and rendering takes a toll to the brain. You need to take into account color theory, color contrast, complementary colors, then core shadows and cast shadows, light fall off, ambient occlusion and ambient light. It also comes down to your color choices, if your initial colors are bad, then it's going to be extremely hard to render your subject, and even harder if you have a background because you'll need to fit the color temperature of the character to the background. And the final nail on the coffin, hue and saturation affect your values, so you have to take into account that too. Also yeah, I think tppo is a perfect example that demonstrates just how valuable coloring is. Because even if you arent great at anatomy, great rendering and lighting makes the illust pleasant to look at

@@elgoblinax8796 it's ok it's probably just a case of not having enough experience. More time, more experience, and eventually you'll get good......... well only if you have a consistent drawing schedule Oh and if you have money to spare and really want some information on improving at art then I suggest buying a Coloso course. The most prominent ones being mogoon, rinotuna, and chyan. You can probably pick up a bunch of anatomy knowledge there. Good luck on your art journey

my best advice for anyone just getting into art is to not worry about speed, drawing fast is something only professionals can afford to do, since they have drawn a lot, they can skip steps like "clean sketch" and instead just go rough sketch then straight into lineart, or in some cases just straight up start with lineart without having to deal with serious proportional issues. trying to speed run your drawings when you're still learning can potentially be detrimental to growth so if you ever feel concerned about time, don't be! you'll get faster eventually without even trying.

Agree, clean sketch is really helpful. I am starting to sketch least 2-3 times before lineart and it makes the process faster and more pleasent to work with.

It is absolutely correct that someone just getting into art should not be worried about their drawing speed. Unless they literally do, because the sphere of art they're getting in requires it - comic illustration, manga, animation will all require you to draw fast and to form habits enabling you to do so from the onset. You will NOT "get faster eventually without trying". Honestly you will never get anything without trying, let alone get better at something. Speedpainting is something you have to specifically train for - if you want to draw fast, you WILL have to practice various shortcuts, techniques, macros, layer settings and all the other things people do to speed up the art process. And if that wasn't the case, all aforementioned shortcuts, techniques, etc. literally wouldn't exist. Professionals would just draw without skipping the steps, simply doing them progressively faster. But in reality what happens is that they learn and practice to skip those steps, TO get faster.

Very true! I used to have a really hard time getting things proportional before I took anatomy studies seriously. Now, I still have minor issues with anatomy but it is much easier to draw poses now without taking so much time and redraws. Basics/fundamentals are still important at the end of the day.

Other tips on how to work faster. - stop caring about some minor detail. Yes, you can see it but most people won't. Like those small disconnected line art in unfocused area or insignificant object in the background. - Focus on major detail that is the main point of your illustration like face, eyes or other eye-catching parts instead of every detail of the illustration. - Keep practicing technique you have in your pocket. My first full CG illustration took me a month to finish but the next one took me about two weeks and it keeps getting faster. The more confident you have in your technique, the better and faster you work. - Try to develop your own work flow and stick to it. It is much faster when you have concrete workflow that you know exactly what you are doing and what you are going to do next. I really like tutorial in this channel that help breakdown the workflow of many profession artists but in the end, we all have to develop our own workflow that suit ourselves the most. - keep practicing the basic. Anatomy, Perspective, Gesture, Pose, color theory, composition, etc. I think it is pretty obvious. No matter how many techniques you have in your pocket, without those basic knowledge, you are going to struggle a lot and it will slow down your work.

What matters is what you will become after getting at your best :) . Be shameless like me post your worst drawings and let actual art teachers criticize your flaws so you stop doing them over and over till it become a habit :)(

What I love about your art is that you notice that you lack something, rigorously learn how others do their technique, and instead of forcing yourself to be at their level, you admit that it’s hard for you and you relax the rules as to not put pressure on yourself, because art is supposed to be enjoyable, but learning is not a fun concept and can be tedious (not just for art but for everything), and you don’t want to lose passion for art itself. Great video, I learn a TON!

My guy your art is really improving a lot Me personally i take so fucking long to draw, i spend 40 mins to sketch and then take a 5 hour break. Not until recent when ive tried to streamline my process. Streamlining your process really gives you a road to look forward to and not question yourself constantly. So if u struggle with doubting the process try figuring out the way most comfortable to you. But also dont be shy of trying new things and adding to your paiting process to improve otherwise you may stagnate Good luck everyone!

@@goku_dunker_420 me personally i watched a ton of artist and tried out their method of (for example) creating a quick shadow over the entire painting, and then getting all the different ways and use the one that i feel like fits me the best. Once youre comfortable stick with that process and try to get good at it. Bcs obviously this all takes practice and patience. Im not in the 3d field so i cant really give any advice on that but this should be the gist of it. Streamlining it basically just having that one stable method that u can rely on if u wanna get smth done and anything that clears all of that in ur mind is gonna save u a lot of time

I did daily drawings for a year. 365 days, first started as an inktober challenge and I just decided to continue until I got tired of it (and it took a year to get tired of daily drawings) and... I can say I learned a lot about work process, coloring, etc. So while not a strict 2h drawing challenge (some took 1 hour, some took 4 hours, one even took 10 hours), it was a pretty interesting way to learn stuff. I gradually went from b/w stuff to full color, from basic backgrounds to entire neighbourhoods (part of the reason why some took a lot of hours, heh), even improved my anatomy a bit. Right now I'm on a bit of a break (a year of daily drawings can burn you out although I do try to do some sketches in a notebook most of the days) but the next step will be figuring out how to streamline stuff for comics so videos like these are interesting cause while my aim is a bit different (telling stories through sequences of images instead of single illustrations) it is always really interesting to see how others approach doing art.

When practicing I usually pick a real life reference and draw it in the "anime" style or take a reference from one of my favorite illustrators on pixiv and try to draw that, and every time i get confused on why i go over realistic in the ones that i pick a realistic ref and go unnecesarily minimalist when i am doing an illustrators work, its because i usually get too much focused on the ref and forget that i need to add some stuff to it, using 2 references one from the real life for the pose and 1 from the illustrators for the style is what i needed, every tip from the video was also great but this realization is the real gold i found here :D THANK YOU SO MUCH!

this video was a blast to watch, seeing all of your studies from your previous videos being incorporated in a single vid! ive been binging your learning videos! its so fun to see the extremely well editing and the attempts! fighting tppo!!!! you can do it! my drawing style can be both fast and slow, depending on my headspace at that moment rip some days i can fully complete a painted style in 3 hours, some days i need like, a week to finish a single illustration it's most probably because of perfectionism though, i hate seeing mistakes and i always want my lineart to be perfect in a single stroke, and im tackling some of those issues so i dont hyperfocus on one thing or second guess my own work. i guess this is a sign for me to try not worrying lmao

I just wanna say man, watching this video with a sense of yearning then finding old sketchbooks from a decade ago made me want to start drawing again. I fell off of it real hard after HS, then every time I had started to try again, I was way too hard on myself and way too slow. But your optimism is great, your explanations are great and easy to follow along with, and overall you're just pretty inspirational in how you attack things that you find lacking and aim to get better. Thanks, truly.

I would love to see this as a recurring series on your channel. Do a few artist studies for a few months, and at the end, do the 2-hour challenge to not only see how much faster you can draw, but to also see how much your skills have improved by implementing the strategies you learned from the new artist studies. I think the Mika Pikazo video is deservedly your most popular, but this is actually my favorite video of yours just because of how much it showcases you putting into practice all of the skills you're learning. It would be great to see that with more artists in the future! I'll end off with a few artist suggestions: Fuzichoco, Miwabe Sakura (Sakurapion), and Torino (TorinoAqua). The former are two I discovered through their art for Fire Emblem Heroes, and the latter does some incredibly gorgeous and detailed art of female characters from games like Genshin Impact. Though, I think her work is a lot more detailed and intricate than the former two. Miwabe Sakura generally draws cutesy, moe-girls, but she's also drawn a few male characters here and there for Fire Emblem, while Fuzichoco has drawn characters from a ton of fandoms on her Pixiv!

YOOOOOOO You've got me pumped You've improved so much! Trying to rethink how I draw right now and you break it down best. Need to not just apply this logic to the artists I like, but my biggest problem is speed. Guess I'll have to try this exercise.

This is such a fantastic example of how to study artists. It's also a great example of art takes time so even if you can draw and paint fast, there's only so much you can do in two hours. I will absolutely agree that I always slow down whenever I'm not confident in my skills in something. That's when I know I need to go back to basics and study that one area whether it be anatomy, composition, lighting, etc.
