Rail Replacement Bus Service is almost a mtw in-joke now, I've heard it used so fucking often. But as a punchline it makes no sense to anyone outside of London, like I have learnt the ins & outs of the London public transport system from mtw, without ever having visited.

I actually had to take one in Wales because it was Sunday and that apparently means no trains. Cardiff to somewhere like... half an hour away by train - the bus got stuck in traffic and it took two hours. But luckily my sister and I are paranoid af and our connection was still like 45 minutes later.

Sure, they’ll happen more in London, because there are more railways in London, but they happen everywhere. I saw one on the road while cycling in East Essex or Suffolk a couple of weeks ago. They were in operation somewhere on the line from Ipswich to London pretty much ever weekend in the winter of 2019-20.

Probably of german origin though (like A LOT of americans) and even then, they can pronunce some names differently even with the same ancestry (Frankenstein is pronunced "stein"", but other -steins are often pronunced "steen")
