I trained at a school for almost 11 years (only one I had ever trained at) and I left about 5 months ago where my best friend of 44+ years is the instructor. Had a few conversations about promotions and what I needed to do and finally after 2+ years of not getting promoted I had had enough. I texted him told him I was leaving and thank him for training me and didn’t even get a response, STILL haven’t heard a word from him. I don’t regret my decision for ONE SECOND. If it gets to a point where you’re not having fun LEAVE. My 2 cents.

It's probably because your game sucks.

My coach encouraged people to go and train in other places and see other clubs he wants us to be knowledgeable and experienced in a comprehensive way, there’s a spirit of jiu jitsu that is quite forgotten

One thing I prefer about Judo is the standardization in grades. When you're trying to be competitive, you want to get to as many clubs as possible. BJJ schools are closed which is a shame!

I got a tricky one for ya I got my buddy Matt into training a year or so ago, his brother is a brown belt at a different gym (I can’t stand the guy) and they didn’t really talk. Jits is starting to bring them together so not only am I a broken family fixer lol but now they’ll even roll once in a while together at my garage gym or each others. He now wants his older brother to belt him up instead of our coach. I keep telling him not to do it but it because his bro goes to a different gym but looks like they’re going through with it. Weird spot huh

What if you know the instructor is going to be hostile and disrespectful based on a pattern of behavior that you've seen over the years? I left a school and knew the instructor would be a jerk about it, so I said nothing.

It depends why you are leaving and if you ever might want to go back.

So do you have to go in and tell your instructor or gym your leaving or can you just leave without saying anything as soon as your membership runs out ? I honestly think this is the way I would do it I mean it just seems so much easier that way.

I'm thinking of moving school because there aren't enough big people my size. Not in any way the school's fault. I just am not getting the right physical feedback. It's very hard to know if I did something technically right or just overpowered my friend.

Yes that’s a common problem for bigger males & females that can’t find training partners their size. My suggestion would be try cross training with a team in the area that has bigger people, however if you feel the need to have bigger training partners that seems pretty understandable.

I think I have trained a good enough time and cross trained at many gyms to where I have just learned that there are a lot of terrible people who own or have influence in gyms. I think it takes a certain kind of person to address this situation and I don’t think it is is in everyone’s best interest to notify your gym when you are switching gyms, especially when it has to do with the social environment.

I think you are 100% this is more about a gym that maybe you want to stay cordial with or maybe it was just a simple thing they could improve. You also have to have a place that wants to be better, not all gym owners want to change
