Baitcasters definitely have their uses, flipping and punching come to mind. They are great for heavy Texas rigged lures and heavy jigs. That's great that you gave that combo to the kid. You are doing a great job mentoring the kids.

I hope that by spring you can buy a good quality maybe aluminum boat motor and trolling motor.You deserve it.If you get one please continue fishing in all the ways you do now.It just gives you another option,the same way having a variety of lures does.

i am just the opposite, I use my baitcasters for everything....lol I just like how they feel in my hands but I do have a few spinning reels, but it was cool to see you hook the young guy up with a nice baitcaster, really great move like so many have said it will be a trip he will never forget, I know, because when you give him the rod, I looked up on the wall at my first bait caster that a family friend gave me a number of years ago. and it hangs on my wall as a tribute to him and the life lessons I learned from him after my dad passed away. so yeah... good job. may God bless you richly.

I've always used a right hand retrieve on my two bait caster. It's natural for me. I noticed you caught a lot of small bass on yellow. If you can find that lure in chartreus (yellow-green), you will catch larger bass.

Nice fishing at the creek! I'm more of a spinning rod n reel guy, but i do use baitcasters for bass every once and a while. The one benefit to baitcasters is that they can cast very very very far!!! much farther than a spinning rod n reel.

Nice to see you using the baitcaster. I do a lot of river fishing and usually have a baitcaster on a medium rod with me.

Its so hard to crank in an area that has bank access. So much line and so many lures in the water it can be VERY frustrating. You still kill it.

Casting rods are super useful in some scenarios...for what you do spinning normally makes sense, but crank baits, spinner baits, jigs, top water etc are for that casting rod...God bless

Yea thats mainly what I got a baitcaster for. I still favor a spinning reel especially when creek fishing!
@austinhernandez27163 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the baitcasters are good for the heavy lures like chatterbait, swim jigs, whopper ploppers, big spinners, etc. I mean they'll work on a spinning reel too, but it feels awkward and like you got less control on it. I only use my baitcaster for lures for bass and bowfin. For small fish, light lures or live bait I use a spinning reel

Like that Let's see what's biting on my ultralight lures. Keeping the door open for sure. Glad you were able to catch a fish with the baitcaster but like you I prefer my spinning rods most of the time. Caleb deserves the rod for his guidance around the drink cooler. I'm a Ski and real sugar Sun Drop man. Ale-8 when you need crisp and refreshing to wash down the chicken fingers lol. Keep sharing the outdoors with the kids, neither will regret that time brother.

Wow, this is history in the making. I like when you break out the casting gear. I know it isn't your thing so when you do it it's appreciated. Did you find the right or left handed reel to be more comfortable? I can fish right handed casting reels but don't like it. I think it's from all the years of retrieving with my left hand on spinning gear. You're an absolute legend giving that yound man that setup. Seems like my prediction of you getting the next generation into fishing was spot on. Keep up the awesome work.

I can't set the hook on bottom baits with a baitcaster to save my life. I've finally given up and ordered a med heavy spinning setup for my 1/2 oz jigs. I either pop the line on the hookset or lose my grip on my reel and it's just hardly ever gone well. No more losing big bass for me.
@CarolinaBassHunter3 жыл бұрын

I have always thought that baitcaster reels are assbackwards with the crank on the right side . That is backwards for most all people . I don't understand why reel manufacturers don't put the cranks on the left side like spinning reels . It seems dumb to me to cast with your right hand and then have to switch hands in order to crank the reel ..
@djsoutdoors503 жыл бұрын

I have always liked that you like I don't mess with the baitcaster. I feel luke it have to pay too much attention to it. I like to kinda zone outvand just fished by instinct. Every time I would get in the zone with the baitcaster in my hand I would end up with a birdsnest. To each his own it see the advantages but its just not relaxing in the same way for me. Andthe sound if drag pulling in a spinning reel is luke nothing else.

Most right handed people learn to use right handed baitcasters because they are more condusive to the way right handed people hold rods and work lures, using a right hand reel as a right handed person will improve your experience and lure control over using a left hand baitcaster in the same position as a spinning rod, sad to see you are no longer working with Picsifun but good luck.

Not much of a fan of the bait caster either, although growing up it was all I used. Wasn't the greatest caster either, new reels much more forgiving. Still prefer the the spinning easier to cast for me, it's all about personal preference I guess. Nice video great gesture at the end scripture to match.
