I never knew the channel before. But from what I've seen, these are some of the most poignant interviews I think I've ever seen. I can imagine what sort of channel it must have been like, and to think of what must have happened for that change to take place. It would have needed a total overhaul of the channel, and potentially some or all of the staff. I wouldn't imagine somebody who does memes for a living would come up with very good interview questions for well... any of these people. But I'm generalizing and that's not to say it's not possible. Maybe they were a smart person and just couldn't get a better job than making memes? Who knows. But I don't want to judge. Especially without any context.

the emotion from this interview is surreal; and if Paul is strong enough to come back on another show then bring him in to tell us of his exploits since leaving the military and how he overcome them. Climbing and running the unthinkable if you had lost your sight through such an experience he's an aspiration.

I have a feeling I sat across from this gentleman on a train a few years ago. He had said he lost his sight in Afghanistan and was still learning to adapt - despite the sadness he was very chatty and was making jokes. He had a support person with him that he teased playfully - he said he would pick up every item in a shop and ask what it was despite the fact he knew it was different/the same item. I could be wrong as it was so long ago but I remember that he was just such a wholesome and lovely person and I have never forgotten him.

I Understand you don't feel like a hero, nor want to be a hero, but I can tell you this from the bottom of my heart. You are a hero to me. My grandad was in WW2 and never spoke about his time, other than to me, the stories of courage always fascinated me. Your story does the same. Not in some horrible Macabre way, but in a way that I feel useless and powerless, to turn back the time, and be made of the courage you are, to have been along side men like yourself. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart and I wish you the most amazing journey forward with your wife and amazing son. You are his hero as well, you may not know it, or feel it yet, but there will be times when he needs a man like you around and you will be there. He might have saved you, but you will be his hero when he is old enough to understand what an incredible bloke you are. All the best mate.

Bit of extra info for you. The Paul McAleese mentioned about 5 minutes in, was the son of John McAleese who was in the SAS (and who took part in the Princes Gate Iranian Embassy action). Paul was 29 when he was killed in Afghanistan. As for Paul Jacobs, I can see how much emotion there is... the guy is reliving one of the worst experiences of his life, and you can see that he is working so hard to keep things in check. I hope you can get the support and help you need, and want you to know that I'm proud of you and your service. You are a good man.

Dear ladbible, please convey this message to Mr. Jacobs on my behalf. Watching this interview has taught me the lessons which can't be put into words, what he went through in his life is beyond my comprehension, surely most of us take pleasures of life for granted & never really question ourselves for whether we deserve it or not , we are always first to complain though when something goes wrong. What I feel for Mr. Jacobs is hard to pen down, but one thing for sure its not sympathy because he is the bravest & toughest person I have ever seen in my life. I wish him the best of the best in his life, all the happiness, success & my deepest respect, warmest wishes go to him & his family. I feel immensely honoured to just watch him share & learn from his experience. ❤
