I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I would listen to this exact same song on the headphones on my way to work while taking that daily 40 min bus ride and gazing out the window. That's how far music trascends.

I can't describe how much I admire him, Erkin Koray. I'm just 17 but my dad used to listen this song every single morning while preparing breakfast. This video reminded me of those early mornings :) Also love the way that you search for every video, it makes it so delightful to watch. And you were thinking who influenced who, Erkin Koray met with John lennon at Cannes if I am not wrong. He said he was also a guitarist and John Lenon asked him to play for a bit. He played 'mesafeler', which was not released yet. Lenon did really enjoy it, they say. He asked him to release it in English, but a bit different. Koray was not really interested in that. He wanted to continue making Anatolian rock in his home, inspiring people with amazing, fascinating music. So sad that government, shitty circumstances made him live in abroad, Canada. He still plays guitar and makes live streams , still a living Legend.

The happy, funky way Cemalim starts out contrasts so well with the desperate feeling of futility in the lyrics. This is exactly the same way I listen to Turkish rock! It is very hypnotic & evocative for sure. I get visual images too but mostly mountain ranges & other moody nocturnal landscapes. I think he plays a Gibson SG, must be a top of the line model.

Erkin Koray has gone to cannes film festival (Paris) and coincidentally John Lennon was there too, when Erkin Koray went to the hotel of John Lennon he saw the crowd waiting in front of the hotel he asked to a stuff to see the John but John wanted to see only one fan of himself then fans has writed their names on papers. Erkin has write that he is a musician from Turkey and he is combining our traditional music with the west musics. When Lennon saw the paper he chosed the Erkin Koray. When they meet Erkin Koray played his song '' Mesafeler '' which has not been published yet then Lennon propesed him to publish this song with English lyrics throughout the Europe but Erkin refused it. In my opinion he could have think that the song wasn't going to have enough popularity in europe or maybe he didn't want to get stucked in the English and make his emotions get deeply understanded in Turkish but guess we'll never know. Sorry for the typo

Barış Manço is graduated from Galatasaray Lisesi, yes the Lycee with that amazing soccer club Galatasaray, another unique feature of that school. Erkin Koray is graduated from Alman Lisesi, another known good lycee in Istanbul with quite a history. On the other hand, Cem Karaca, son of two artists, is the founder of Anatolian Rock who he got the idea of blending Turkish folk music and western Rock music during his compulsory military service (he even tells the story in a documentary how he had that idea during a sad trip he experienced in a military exercise in the mountains of the province Malatya if I am not mistaken). On the other hand, it is unfortunate that those guys and all other giants like Üç Hürel, MFÖ, Selda Bağcan, Edip Akbayram etc. never made it to world wide music market even there was the mighty Ahmet Ertegün of Atlantic Records. I don't know why Ahmet didn't help them, maybe the era's conditions, I really don't know. But it seems the world really missed something like Anatolian Rock. And Luke, again, thank you for reacting to Anatolian Rock songs. Yes, those art pieces can't be replicated because we lost that soul. Those are ancient artifacts now.
