Okay so I went back and watched her talk about the vitamin c and niacinamide. The whole launch video followed by the apology video and this podcast…. I still feel lied to. There are several conflicting statements here that don’t add up. Also Kirby you can say the whole bs about deep dives but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. We were lied to for financial gain. This is coming from someone that tried naturium before Susan announced she got rights for the brand. I love the products. I feel we still aren’t getting the truth and and Susan only came out with this video after she sold it to elf…. Extra fishy

It's great everyone is praising you now on top of Context is great but Jen Luv who did the break down on the matter did a breakdown on your faults of which you need to reflect you did make mistakes which could still get fined by the FTC js. I watched you for a long time and multiple of other skin influencers and entrepreneurs. The problem is how you marketed the brand when you could have just sent people the product in the community and have them test out products. Also, I kind of wished you had prefaced it as a sneak peek to what you working with your team. Yes a lot of things were going on unrelated but how you marketed the brand was basically add fuel to the fire and you were/are married to a lawyered which is confusing. Also NOT everyone is in your facebook group most of follow you on KZbin/Instagram so best practices is to follow the FTC rules and guidelines so all of this would have been avoided. Personally, you should asked your entrepreneurial peers even had them on this podcast about how to go about logistics and marketing and your friend is right aways ask a lawyer for legal advice.

I think there is a way to take accountability, this isn't that way while you might think it is. it's not coming off very empathetic or accountable. Mocking people who called it out also felt icky. i think giving context ie excuses kind of makes it worse. People trusted you, and you broke that trust by not being fully transparent on your conflict of interest with how you worked with influencers too. I dont really look at your reccs the same way any more, as much as i want to. You feel the worst for your friends? How about for the people who took your recommendations as honest. I have a few naturium products but idk this podcast really isnt sitting well, i think ill be purchasing diff options moving forward. but we all live and learn...although from this podcast doesn't seem like that moment has came yet.

I still don't really know how I feel about this whole situation. I don't think Susan intended to be misleading, but a lot of people still felt misled. I agree that the surprise announcements to other skincare influencers did not help and only added to the "secretive" or "suspicious" nature of the whole situation. It wasn't handled especially well. I will say, I'm glad that Susan's reputation has recovered, and it's a pretty good example that demonstrates that most people are willing to move past things like this as long as they feel like they aren't being lied to.

Like I said above, I don't really see as being a problem the surprise announcement to the other influencers, which, unless she had paid them to promote her brand regardless of their knowledge of her ownership of or direct creative involvement with it, she had not done anything even mildly unethical in having told them the same way we all found out. In addition, it was also a completely fair & reasonable move for her to let them get the chance to assess the products while they were still unbiased or unaffected in any way by any foreknowledge. I would have wanted to hear their honest & fearless assessments as well before they found out if I were in the same position, which was gonna happen shortly thereafter getting their opinions anyway. It would have been perfectly reasonable as well (& even quite risky to her actually if they ended up not liking the products!) during the short period of nondisclosure (even if it was intentional just for that purpose!) to pretend to also just have received the products from PR just like they did for her to try but without actually stating her opinion about them in order not to spoil the experiment. It would have actually been more potentially problematic for them if they had even heard some unconfirmed reports or knew outright for sure about her involvement & they then proceeded to praise & promote her brand. Even if their positive support was genuine, they would have gotten tainted by that unfortunate association with it if this "scandal" had led to her actual downfall. Quite the contrary, their unawareness protected their innocence from even being doubted, especially because of how publicly it was shown how they had all been surprised similarly by her announcement just like the rest of us were. And I also still am not sure what was so hard to understand about the simple dilemma that led to her being unable to reveal something important to disclose publicly but had to be officially legal before she could announce it? There is no one who even "talks" about stuff of this nature & magnitude that isn't official yet, except with their immediate family maybe. Who the hell does that? Lol. Imagine the bigger embarrassment (& even possible legal issues) if the deal didn't end up closing in the end?

Imo, I felt lied to. Deceived. Used. I tried a couple products but it’s all so copycat. Luckily I’ve not bought anything from the company since early summer. Not buying it anymore. Didn’t do anything more than cheaper products. Way overpriced. I just stick to Asian or German skin care. I feel this podcast thing is a security blanket and a diversion. She is so disconnected from the average audience member I don’t think she realizes or maybe doesn’t care how detached she’s become. In addition, I feel she’s had so much filler and Botox that I can’t believe her when she talks about product or procedure positives. I’m sorry but she looks so different now and I can’t say oh she said it works to smooth lines so I should check it out. No. Her overdone face isn’t relatable to the everyday person. I was a follower of Susan during this time and a member of the og FB group. I didn’t think it was a breaking point for me, so I am still here and love Naturium. You all lost me at the end with the “less is more” though. Although there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, I think it’s good to be an informed consumer. I don’t want to support people who are actively funding things that are in stark objection to my moral code.

I remember when this started to happen. I thought the entire situation was odd. Now hearing the background it makes sense. Even recently Pamala Anderson has been named a founder of an existing skincare brand. I forgot the name but many people kept asking the question like how can you be a founder on an established brand. I think the pandemic forcing people to pay attention, where they hadn’t before, lead to people who don’t have security or resources to feel so disillusioned with how thoroughly we as the general public have been failed. That we’re truly on our own, and have been on our for a while now. For a nation where healthcare, especially mental and behavioral healthcare is SO inaccessible. People have genuine fears, concerns, frustrations that they can’t do anything about. And that uncertainty and crisis in faith of the government, other institutions, other people, and in your own safety just opens the doors for people to fall into a cult mentality that makes it easy for others to take advantage of them and whip up a mob to fight for “the cause” and execute a plan, because they believe they are moral righteous and upright. When our governments literally try to stifle community building efforts, isolating us more and more, people will look for it in any way they can. Even when it doesn’t provide what they’re really needing. When you begin to believe that you have the sole ability to identify who is and isn’t moral, when you feel justified in interrogating people to verify their morality, and using who you are as the yard stick. It just creates such an easy excuse to enforce abuse onto others and to frame it as not just righteous but as something that needs to be done for other people’s safety. It makes people feel in control when they otherwise don’t, and it’s self aggrandizing. It’s just funny because people think they’re operating in opposition to the “status quo”. They frame it as attempts to take justice into their own hands, because of how unjust our systems are, but they’re too high on their own supply to recognize that what they’re doing is just more of the same that makes them feel so unsafe. They are just reaffirming the preexisting structures, because those same feelings and justifications are the exact same things used to build everything we currently have that is failing us, that is brutalizing people, and only seeks to offer punishment as a form of correction for what it deems to be “wrong”.

I actually started watching and following Susan about a month before everything happened. When everything came to light I wasn’t like (oh my god! How could she?!) I was open minded about it and the fact that I didn’t have all the information on what actually happened behind the scenes. All in all I’m a firm believer in second chances and immediately decided to look past it and have loved Naturium since. I buy everything they launch 😅 and it’s been an incredible journey and on.

@@monicapatton1405 the BHA Exfoliant is actually one of my favorites! It’s the product I repurchase the most. My favorite Naturium cleanser is unfortunately a discontinued one; the Mixed Greens Nutrient Rich Cleanser. Other than that one I love the niacinamide cleansing geleé. The Niacinamide serum is another favorite and repurchase and don’t get me started on the body washes. Glow getter and glycolic acid body washes do wonders. Interestingly their tranexamic acid serum is yet another repurchase one BUT their Retinal cream serums (specifically in 0.1) never leave my night time routine. I’m hoping they launch higher strengths. And their moisturizers are amazing. Two favorites are the niacinamide gel cream (yes a lot of niacinamide products I have really oily skin haha) and the peptide moisturizer for evenings but….surprisingly I love their Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream the most! I don’t ever hear anyone talk about it but it’s great!

it's so funny that this video came out yesterday because I was at target looking for body washes and decided on two of naturium and another brand to have a few to try for my skin. then I got home and started looking on socials to see what the consensus was on these products and found out that naturium was yours! I used to watch your videos ages ago whenever they would pop up and when I was consuming a lot more content like that but then realized there was something that happened with you online but still wasn't completely sure what it was... and long story long... here I am and got my explanation! lol the universe really does work in mysterious ways! I tried the glycolic acid body wash today on my super dry skin... going to try it a few more times and see if it makes any difference. so far, I'm just glad I'm not crazy itchy like my other body wash was starting to do in this dry weather

Sometimes people who have been through conflict have a hard time getting past it. Unfortunately the hurt and defensiveness becomes part of the brand. I didn’t know anything about these issues until you hinted at it. I didn’t care about it because I loved your content and every product. I use and suggest ( as an esthi) your products. Maybe I should care about it but… I didn’t. But there are hints of bitterness from your team who are sensitive to any issues that could be related… it has turned me off in the past from engaging with your content. It seemed petty when I didn’t know or care about the controversy. The context here seems like trauma. I hope time will heal because I think the products are top tier and most consumers don’t know or care about this. I love the cleansing balms, gel wash with niacinamide, vitamin C, retinoids, start with lowest % ofc. The spfs are great on my skin. The chemical spf is a good day moisturizer for me too.

That alone is worth all the empathy in the world.

Yep, agree, even if it was just the talking stage it is still a bias that should have been disclosed. Similarly, in the previous episode she talked about how she sometimes talks up a brand to introduce it to the channel in preparation for a sponsorship with them later on - imo that is also not an honest tactic. But such is the business I guess, does it make her a horrible person who should lose everything? No. But whether to support, watch and trust is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

I did not know who you were when all of this happened. So I am looking in as an unbiased party. You seem really bothered by this one ring leader trying to find out info, but don’t we deserve to know? I think she is fully justified in speaking about the people that caused her harm. She was put through hell because of what this “ring leader” started. Can you imagine being in her shoes? This person got the whole internet to cancel her without the context of what was happening and she had people sending her death threats. Telling her she should have her kids taken away. Thank you for sharing. There is nuance to everything and I believe nothing you did was done in bad faith. And to be honest, everything thing you said when first promoting and discussing the products was an honest review in terms of the quality and efficacy of the products themselves... Can't fault that from the get-go the Naturium products were great. This brand has completely changed my skincare routine as it has high quality and AFFORDABLE skincare products that work. I will be forever grateful that this brand really allowed me to commit to a skincare routine month after month without feeling like I have to break the bank.

I remember precisely when everything unfolded, and I was absolutely devastated by how unfairly you were treated. It still makes me so upset to think that people jumped to conclusions without knowing the whole story, without understanding the kind, genuine, and incredibly sweet person you are (and always have been!). The sheer outrage I felt at the time - and still feel - is hard to put into words. What makes it even worse is knowing the very group of disgruntled individuals who fueled that whole mess. It was such a calculated, unfair attack that it made me sick to my stomach. How could they not see your heart, intentions, and the positive impact you've always made? Yeah, wow, I think this was such a necessary conversation. Some really poignant topics in the wake of Liam Payne's death. Even just in the broader sense of giving people grace when you don't know the full context. I am glad you explained your story because it does make a whole lot of sense. And I love that your conclusion is basically just be honest and trust people, because isn't that what we're always shouting at the TV when the couple in a drama aren't telling each other what happened and they end up fighting over something that could be resolved if they just let each other in..? I remember the fun they had making these”this just in” videos. There is a small creator that I follow who will still talk and I’m like, yaaa get over it. Susan, as someone who has been at the helm of launching a small business online and at brick and mortar, I completely commiserate and applaud your journey (sorry for the word choice Anna Wintour.) People (journalist included) have no concept of all the red tape, hustles, assholes, and grifters/investors/etc that we navigate behind the scenes whilst trying to maintain our ethics and values on top of staying on budget and creating meaningful ROI. Yet despite this, you still gave us Glowgetter. People also aren’t aware that once you’re in bed with investors, you don’t just get to say what you want all the time- despite being the founder and face of the brand. Susan, as someone who has followed you for many years, and adopted many of your tips and wisdom, it’s so refreshing to see someone bootstrap their way to the top without getting in the mud and drunk with power on AHA like the drunks at elephant. I think it’s so weird people even had time to lament over this when Sunday Riley is straight up peddling fake reviews. I’m glad you finally got to shed some clarity on this, but honestly- your work speaks for itself. You give me hope, xxJ

IDK what exactly was such a mystery even to your friend that it took a year or more even for her to understand the situation? IMO, there wasn't any new information or context that needed to be added to what you had already explained adequately during that "crying video" 😂 about the simple dilemma that led to your being unable to reveal something important but had to be officially legal before you could announce it, and it was only because of the fact that it wasn't so yet. What was so hard to understand about that? If anything, you were the one being held back from saying something publicly that wasn't real yet & could have absolutely fallen through even at the very last literal minute still. That's something anyone in the same situation would do not for any malicious or even any harmlessly playful intent, but out of plain prudence & commonsense. There is no one who even "talks" about stuff of this nature & magnitude that isn't official yet, except with their immediate family maybe. Who the hell does that? Lol. Imagine the bigger embarrassment (& even possible legal issues) if the deal didn't end up closing. It's also not like you attempted to withhold the information from the public permanently after all. It would have been a completely different intentional breach of ethics of the highest order if it was something that had to be revealed by others against your intention to keep your ownership of a brand from public knowledge that you'd then be pretending to be reviewing as an "unbiased product reviewer" for the rest of your career as an influencer. But you did promptly make the announcement as soon as you actually legally could anyway. Another thing that I don't really see as being a problem was the surprise announcement to the other influencers, which, unless you had paid them to promote your brand regardless of their knowledge of your ownership of or direct creative involvement with it, you had not done anything even mildly unethical in having told them the same way we all found out. In addition, it was also a completely fair & reasonable move for you to let them get the chance to assess the products while they were still unbiased or unaffected in any way by any foreknowledge. I would have wanted to hear their honest & fearless assessments as well before they found out if I were in the same position, which was gonna happen shortly thereafter getting their opinions anyway. It would have been perfectly reasonable as well (& even quite risky to you actually!) during the short period of nondisclosure (even if it was intentional just for that purpose!) to pretend to also just have received the products from PR just like they did for you to try but without actually stating your opinion about them in order not to spoil the experiment. It would have actually been more potentially problematic for them if they had even heard some unconfirmed reports or knew outright for sure about your involvement & they then proceeded to praise & promote your brand. Even if their positive support was genuine, they would have gotten tainted by that unfortunate association with you if this "scandal" had led to your actual downfall. Quite the contrary, their unawareness protected their innocence from even being doubted, especially because of how publicly it was shown how they had all been surprised similarly by your announcement just like the rest of us were.

I will never understand the hate. I was a new follower of Susan’s in early 2020 and fell down a rabbit hole during the pandemic when I was in lockdown and watched so many of her videos and immediately loved her for the engaging and informative content she was putting out about skincare. When this whole thing happened I remember watching her tearful apology video and seeing so many people in the comments with their pitchforks. I felt awful for her because if you watch Susan’s videos, you know she is just not a villain. She’s not. I am beyond proud of her continued success with Naturium and will still always share her videos with my friends who have questions about skincare. To anyone still trying to drag her, give it up already.
