I completely disagree with you on this one man. Using these 2* quality gems is still viable if you can catch up with your legendary gear rank upgrades. Getting them to rank 30 should put you within the minimum requirement of at least the Inferno 4 helliquary bosses. I don't find this as a mistake at all.

Ponder how Bliz laid out these gems. They designed it IMO to foster P2W progression. Once you are 4k reso - its 2 x 2 star or 1x 2 star or all 5 star depending on what you want your P2W progression speed to be. I think blackthorn down in the comments has the best overall approach. SUPER strong as a 3k, can punch way above reso in raids / pvp until that spending itch comes along. Get the awakened benefits of 3 slots, the utility of a 1 star, the power of a 2 star, and the specialty effects of 5 stars with the CR bonuses to match. I'm over that hill into the 4k-5k range and find the specialty effects of 5 stars outweigh pure damage and utility from 1-2 stars... but I have spend money and grind alts (the known legal way). Yet at times I still get clocked by well equipped 3kers even though I can significantly pound on whales. Great points in the vid!

The thing with 2* gems, is that you meet a wall at 300 reso. And hitting that wall is more expensive then to have say a 4* at rank 5 which give 50% more resonance. 2 star gems are the biggest dmg gem, so for a certain bracket, like between 2500 - 3500, the highest dmg you can deal is with these. But most players are so focused damage they forget resonance gives hit points. So players argue that that awakening is great, but it's a fallacy to think +10% to a single skill is better then +10% to all damage and life. So in conclusion, it depends on where you're at; after 2000 reso you have to make the transition towards 4*. (I say 4* because it's the optimal for rank 1 to 6)

Good for you for admitting that, brother. People need to realize that Immortal isn’t a race, it’s a marathon. It’s meant to be played over years and years. When you close yourself in, by building around 1* gems, you create a wall for yourself that doesn’t take long to hit. The game is build around reso and CR, so give yourself the long-shot at attaining plenty of both long-term.

It's meant to be paid over years and years. The grind is a part of it. But at the end of the day, it's the cumulative spending on battle passes and boons of plenty that pushes a character to the top. For players not planning to spend those thousands of dollars over multiple years, it's pointless trying to get too many 5 stars.

@@merdufer To be honest, the game isn’t intended to benefit F2P. It’s meant to benefit those that pay-to-play. Those are the people supporting it and keeping it running so smoothly. So I have no problem with F2P only targeting 1&2*’s. Anyone else though, should look at the long game.

I completely feel you on this one. I had considered doing the same thing you did at one point. My warband lead talked me into holding off until we had the information on the new difficulties. After seeing the values required for inf4-6, and knowing how the cr scaling works for legendary/set gear, it became apparent that this wasn't going to be a viable option for me. Three of us are effectively carrying 5 at the start of any given tier, and with me being the buff bot crusader, I absolutely cannot afford to be but so far below CR, when you consider all of the nigh unavoidable aoe damage that tends to fly around in raids now. My being dead or alive for the final phase of the two new bosses has at times been the difference in win or wipe in the first weeks. After seeing the final inf5 boss from the floor, I know this is going to be the exact same case in the next tier. So, unfortunately, even if someone has to rock trash 5*s (you're obviously not, but just for illustration) for cost purposes, if you're looking to push the new raids day and date, you're gonna have to swallow that pill, just for the sake of the CR right now.

Precisely. There’s a reason why people still bothered to be Mid Spenders of 4000 resonance using all eight Rank 5 5-Stars Legendary Gems yet avoid PvP totally is because of the Combat Rating for Challenger Rifts and Warband Raids.

Yeah.. I didn’t catch this til I started making the adjustments, but I only decided on settling on 2 2* and 4 5* because of how much CR it costed. Glad you’re letting people know now.

When building for a newer player, I'd recommend staying 2* before trying to level up.those.5*. You'll benefit from those more frequent smaller bumps as you progress. Plus as you hit rank 10 you can start to unlock res. THEN as you score awesome 5* start swapping those in. If you are definitely playing long term you'll probably awaken a few spots with 1s and 2s. As you replace them with 5* you will lose the awakening bonuses, but will retain the ability to move around r10 as you do different builds, to get better bonuses since difference essences provide different bonuses, nevermind class change

I run 5 5-stars, 2 2-stars, and a 1-star. My Res is 3600ish, my CR is 31500. My primary armors are at 19 and 20. I found the best CR upgrades for me from my secondary sets. All my secondaries are at 18. I have almost completely stopped OW farming and just grind dungeons for mats and wisps.

I've recently been having fun running 1* awakened for cd reduction and otherwise 5*s... The cr hit is counter intuitive because you wouldn't think the game would weight it that heavy at 30k+ but it does

Long story short, the game is bad for low spenders no matter how people spin it. I followed the advice of people who say low spending was viable, and got a 1-star gem to rank 10 to awaken a slot. Then I realized that did nothing. My CR is still way too low. My reso is still way too low. If you look at the top people in battle ground, all of them multiple deactivated awakened slots with 5/5 gems in them. When I got my second 1-star gem to rank 10, I didn't awaken it. The 1-star gem is going to be used to feed a 5-star gem, if I play the game long enough to get another one.

If you are a true f2p player it's pointless go for 1-2 star gems, you can't awaken gear without dawning echo(1000 orbs). You will be stuck with trash gems and small wings, it would be impossible for me reaching 3k wings only 2 star gems. This clan in my server the majority of players have more than 4k reso running more than 4 accounts at same time.

For f2p and casual spenders should focus on 2-3 2* r10 gems and the other 6-5 slots should be some 5* type of gems (preferably 4*+). The 4-5* should be r6 minimum and the 2* r10. This will easily get you to 4k reso with the awaken gens maxed inside.

@@APinTheAK nope just 1.5years into the making and i am only 160 reso away from 4k. Stop acting as though it is impossible to reach a decent resonance level all the while spending under 2k on account. It could be a lot lot lot worse. Go play the castle building strategy games where dropping 100k only puts you in the top 1k or so. Where you have to spend hundred”S” of thousands to be the top 10 players of the game lol. Then come back and say how bad DI is with it p2w vrs f2p balance. Hell do not forget protection in them other games or a whale can come by and wipe out your hard work and time in 5-10 minutes of hitting you to 0 you. At least in DI whales can not wipe you out and destroy all your gems or gear or loot it lol.

If you are f2p/low spender just go with 1/2 stars and bjs/bottle/starfire. Starfire still really good at low ranks, bjs bottle movement speed.

i spent some money early on in the game but for about a year ive only got the battle pass and sometimes the boon. for me all 2 star gems is better because i cant get 5 star gems past rank 4

Strange seeing other markets. Normal gems (not rubies, everyone hates rubies) go for 400 plat only on my server. Never lower. And yes, 5 star gems are getting a bit silly. BSJ, Bottled Hope, Starfire Shard and to a lesser extent Gloom cask, all sell out immediately. It is impossible to buy a Starfire shard rank 2 on my server. Impossible. If one ever comes on, it sells the very second it becomes available. I know. I've tried. My taps aren't fast enough. Anyway, enjoy the dramatic increase in power. I have 1 2 star gem and I want to replace it....but nothing tempts me. I will wait for the next new one I guess.

Not sure how right you are.. CR is worthless once you've hit the magic number. You really need to up your CR by mindlessly getting your upgrades up to 30. Sounds kinda like you're trying to compete with people who've spent more? I'd also mention the most damage bonus you can get for the content you're running from CR is an 11% upgrade. I definitely wouldn't be scrapping. and need to get those 3/4 5*'s to to 4/5 or 5/5. 31k is what the game calls for at level 1200.. Watch Auroth's DPS/F2P/Familiar guide to truly understand how to build your character.

I'm not a mid/big spender, I'm fine with more 2* awakened slots. I'm around 2k Res, out damage whales on PvE and gives little whales (5k) a run for their money, it's decent.

Combat rating is capped at 10% dmg/dmg reduction in pvp. Awakening bonus isn't. Used 8x 5s at rank 5 each and felt significantly weaker. Now with 4 rank 10 2s with 4 rank 5 5s gems am happy with it and not even looking back. PvE is ez. Dont really care about it much tbh. Have whales on my wb to carry hard i5 raids anyway. Now if you find it hard for you to hold your own during pvp matches, then you should consider changing build or switch to a better class

It's really more about combat rating for certain content than it is resonance.% Dmg gems will actually give you more total damage once combat rating is out of the way. I sustain 5.4 million dps in 1 minute runs on the dummy solo, and I run an optimal damage gem setup that consists of only 3 5* gems.

I typically run BSJ, Echoing Shade, Bottled Hope, Bloody Reach, Pain Clasp, Followers Burden, Bezerkers Eye, Freedom and Devotion, and you may also want a Mother's Lament to fit in somewhere unless in coordinated group content with a sader's holy banner.

I am what one can consider a "heavy mid spender" at 4k resonance. I feel the number of 5-star gems you use is directly correlated to how much you spend. As you said in the video, using 2-star gems is perfectly fine for a F2P player, and it will give you 2400 resonance when maxed out. If one spends to buy 8x Dawning Echos to awaken, that can go up to 2800 resonance (each 2-star gem can have 50 resonance from inserted gems for a total of 350 reso per slot). I am running (currently): - Rank 10 Viper's Bite - Rank 10 Pain Clasp - 4/5 rank 5 Starfire Shard - 4/5 rank 6 Seeping Bile - 5/5 rank 6 Blood Soaked Jade - 5/5 rank 6 Spiteful Blood - 5/5 rank 6 Bottled Hope - 5/5 rank 5 Frozen Heart I got plenty of 5/5, and I'm working on getting that Frozen Heart to rank 6 like the others. But mainly I wanna try to remove my 4/5 Seeping bile and replace with a rank 10 Igneous Scorn and awaken my pants for +10% dmg on Disintegrate. Seeping gives me 540 reso now, and a 2-star rank 10 with some inserted gems is usually around 330-340 reso. So I'll lose 200 reso in that swap, but gain +10% dmg on the one and only skill I use to deal damage.

I think it depends on the player and the other combat rating factors. I’m using the higher res to help compensate my combat rating from areas that are lower like my heliquiry and gear ranking

@@MiseryHatesCompany yeah CR is a long grind. I do keep a 4/5 chip of stone and a lv 10 mocking laughter as back up for when pushing to a new inferno. That combo chips everything with every hit of primary attack for 6 sec. So even with to low of a CR I’m able to push really high above my level.

Been wondering how long it was gonna take for you to figure this out. Alot of people did what you did ditching 5 star gems. No one has truly benefitted from it. Usually it's people trying to give the finger to blizzard but the hard truth is the game is based around 5 star gems. Like it or leave it that's the way it is.

Your gear rank sucks 22-23. That is why your cr is low. Not the gems! No offence. Get your magic find up and start farm mats and dust. Also cap 1500 wb points every week. Btw i'm a 100% f2p, p1152, 31832cr, 1790 res with only 2 5* 5 2* 1 1*. And gear rank 30 2-3 months ago. 404k mats 40k dust in inventory as of now.
