I was hacked and infected with ransomware.
I didn't think it could happen to me.

For critical data I always make double backups on seperate media. So back in the day I used DVD Ram drives, they were very reliable but I still always made 2 copies of all my design work and even kept them in 2 seperate locations 1 in a fire proof safe!😊 I've done this ever since a hard drive went bad on me and I lost 40gb of data, doesn't sound like much but that was a huge amount of designs back then!😮 Cloud storage is also handy!

Besides that 24 bitcoin is way to high, its only a 50/50 chance at best paying the ransom would actually get your files decrypted. Maybe a vid outlining your comp system and how you manage and organize your footage would be of interest to a lot of viewers some of us hobbiests sure could probably learn something.

All my important stuff gets constantly backed up to the cloud. Everything else can be recovered with data recovery software unless the drive catches on fire and explodes. I had a long career in IT so it just comes second nature to me to handle stuff like this.

I still have an 8tb with the encrypted files hopefully one day there will be a tool to encrypt them. If you got any ideas let me know thanks for commenting

@@WestPsyde I guarantee there is already some software out there to recover all the "encrypted" data. I've never done it before, or I would be able to recommend the name of it. It's likely it's some really weak and easy to crack encryption, if it is even encryption at all. I would spend your free time searching ransomware recovery software or something like that.

@@WestPsyde Key would be to do it on a computer that is not connected to the internet and probably not use Windows either (IE use some sort of Linux bootable USB stick).
