A video of Shabani, a handsome gorilla at Higashiyama Zoo, banging on the glass. I'd be happy if it was a greeting, but I'm sorry if it was intimidating. #gorilla #ゴリラ #Shabani
I had heard when Gorillas hit the glass, it is a "greeting" gesture. Shabani is being very gentle, he doesn't look upset at all, he seems to be playing, and being funny for visitors. @2:08, it was funny, as if he was showing you his muscles. But, he is not hitting the glass hard at all. Shabani was always a show off. He loves getting reactions from visitors. He seems to be just chilling out and watching the visitors for a change. I would have loved to be there with his full attention. What a treat! He is such a playful and fun Silverback. He loves playing with his kids and affection. Great video! Thank you for sharing! He is a clown. ;-)

Shabani is not angry or afraid or stressed, he likes to give the paying customers what they want by showing off his power, gentle taps on the window and everyone is happy.

Id hate to think Shabani was feeling frustrated and threatened, but this was funny.
Such a beautiful gorilla troop! Japan needs to step up and give these gorillas a bigger better enclosure like Bristol zoo. These gorillas are bored to death. Japan zoo start a fundraiser I will send $$!

This enclosure is much bigger than their original a few years back, it's the Momotaro family that is in need of space...

@@TheFlashyWeasel it’s still a very small , sterile and very unnatural enclosure, as is the case with most Japanese zoos. I will admit, when it comes to maintenance, the Shabani troop is superior. They seem well fed and healthy. Their teeth look phenomenal. Wild gorillas have 6 miles of territory and travel up to a mile a day if im not mistaken. Unfortunately captivity isn’t going anywhere anytime soon but these magnificent creatures belong in a natural protected reserve. What’s the point of breeding gorillas if they’re not being rehabilitated to become semi-wild or completely wild? What do you think?

@@TheFlashyWeasel The Momotero troop live within multi-dimensional space and while difficult to estimate, you can double or triple the living and play area of this troop, and Momotero's troop are far more physically stimulated at Kyoto, these look bored and listless and the pen appears bleak and featureless, no wonder the gorilla is banging on the glass.

@@TheFlashyWeasel I think Momotaro family is stressed and that's why they go at each other lately. Need lots more space
