Raised in a religious household but soon ended back in McDonalds. Ariel Berkowitz drifted away from Judaism in high school and faced many challenges. A life-changing accident at 19, where he was run over by a train and lost his legs, led him to reconnect with his faith and see the bigger purpose in his life. He now values his connection to G-d more than anything and embraces the second chance he was given.

My great grandma told my mom to put a tehilim under my pillow as a child. Him saying his grandma did that made me cry. Hashem should bless you with health, happiness and meaning in life. Thanks for sharing your story.

Amen...Wow. Thank you! I'm a Jewish woman I was born with a disability and I can relate in many ways to his story. I've lost some mobility over the years in that too. I think Hashem knows our struggles and can see our efforts. Everybody's got a different way of evolving. I don't think it's wrong to have multiple feelings about changes in your situation or in your body. I think it's okay to feel sad and there's a time for that. There will also be a time for gratitude. That is a great attribute to have in general. I was not raised Orthodox in practice I think I'm more Orthodox in attitude than in practice. I think a broad perspective is always good. I'm also glad to hear a Jewish person's near death experience. There are so many others from other religions.Ariel's life philosophy and realizations mirror many of my own in many ways.

Wow! I am going through a conversion journey at the moment. I am not a spring chicken and there are many challenges with so much going on in my heart. Today I had the feeling that I should watch something about near death experience, so being curious I looked on KZbin. Without having to actually search for something this video was there. For most of the time I sat with tears in my eyes, crying from deep within. I have been like this a lot lately. In shul everything is so real. The prayers and all that is happening is touching my deepest innermost parts. I don't know exactly what is happening, but I know that I need to trust HaShem. Thank you

Thank you for sharing your story even though it’s seems repetitive for you it’s touching for someone else. Just like prayers we say it every day but each one has a different effect. Hence the power of tehilem as you mentioned. May you keep having the strength to grow and be an inspiration for others.

I graduated from college more than 40 years ago and it was hard enough for a shomer mitzvot Jew but it seems that everything has really deteriorated to a den of iniquity. No wonder professors and students are supporters of Hamas.

I don't quite understand why he wasn't committed to Torah Judaism by sixth grade. I assume there was no further private Jewish school but why didn't his parents know what was going on? Did his parents stop being shomer mitzvot?

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers. King David’s first Psaume The story of Aleksey Maresyev, a Soviet and Russian military pilot who became a fighter ace during the Second World War despite a double amputation, and the story of Douglas Bader, a British fighter pilot who overcame a double leg amputation to continue flying during the Second World War, both are an inspiration to all that suffered a similar fate.
