Moana Reaction is today's video!
Hey everyone! Join me as I watch Moana for the first time today and get filled with so many emotions and nonstop crying.
An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always sought: her own identity.

I love that Moana is one of the very few, maybe even the only one, Disney protagonists who was ready to give up her dream for others, and only went to help her people, not simply because she wanted to. When her father talked to her about her place and responsibility, she didn't blow him off or got angry that he didn't understand, she listened, she respected and understood his points, and she accepted them. She chose to find meaning in being where she was needed, not where she wanted to be.

@holl0918 Жыл бұрын
Another thing I love is that by doing that, she was eventually able to bring where she wanted to be and where she needed to be together while being at peace with the journey. Too many movies of this genre make them mutually exclusive, which is such a tragedy.

@@GummiAnd Frozen 1 is strange; if you actually think about the movie, Anna is clearly the main character there. But somehow Elsa became the more popular among the fans, which is why Frozen 2 is all about her. But even in Frozen 1, Anna wasn't the only one to sacrifice herself. Elsa sacrificed her powers and happiness for the safety of others around her. Turns out it was not a correct course of action, but still, her intentions were there. And, of course, Christoph sacrificed her love for Anna, to bring her what he thought would be happiness.

Moana is a mix of all the islands in Polynesia. Like Samoa, Hawai'i, New Zealand, Tahiti and more. The voyaging part is based on historical events. Where they stopped voyaging for 1000 years then our ancestors continued to voyage to other islands.

Two things I love about this movie 1. The grandma doesn't tell moana she's wrong for deciding to go back home. Instead she says she shouldn't have put all that into moans and says that she'll follow moana anywhere and proceeds to support her 2. Tekka being te fiti(I probably butchered the spelling) was brilliant. I didn't see it coming at all and I love that such a small thing can so effectively make you think "oh. So it's not actually a villain. It's just a shell of who she used to be"

For a while in the movie, Maui and Tamatoa, as well as their songs "You're Welcome" and "Shiny", were thematically the same thing: both only cared about what the exterior world sees about them, be their amazing powers or the big amount of riches you possess. The difference is that Maui learned to be a better being after opening up to Moana about his traumas. Meanwhile, Tamatoa kept being the same selfish spoiled jerk, but that's what I love on him, he is just a delightfully bad bitch

The reason the grandmother died right after giving the Heart to Moana is perfectly explainable. The Heart was keeping her alive. She also knew that the moment she would let go of it, her time would come. But she also trusted Moana, enough to sacrifice her life so she could accomplish her mission.

One of the theories (my favourite) as to why Moana and Te Fiti look alike is because like Maui said "Why didn't the ocean bring back the heart itself?" Because the "heart of Te Fiti" is the spirit, and Moana is the heart

I know it's a bit morbid, but I find it humorous when they make little jabs like the pig being sad at her eating pork because Pigs in nature of omnivorous and would even eat another pig if need be. They do a similar thing in Lilo and Stitch too when Lilo freaks out about Nani suggesting a Tuna sandwich for Pudge the fish. Most fish are just an Omnivorus and opportunistic if not more so when it comes to eating smaller fish. As someone who's watch many nature shows, these little details are funny to me because I know it's purely for the kids.

5:05 Fun fact about newborn turtles and this little ritual: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there. They have to find it on their own. This scene is essentially how Moanas journey ends up going out on the ocean. She may have been pointed in the right direction, but ultimately she had to do it on her own.

The trend of Disney showing other cultures is amazing in general but I got to see first hand the importance of inclusion. I was at Disney World earlier this year and songs from Moana are used multiple times during the fireworks show at Magic Kingdom. I was standing behind a family for the entire show, the parents were an older couple made up of a white dad and a Filipino mom and their adult daughter was with them. As soon as the first song from this movie started the daughter started weeping. I'm not talking gentle tears falling down her cheeks, I mean seconds away from ugly crying. She sang every word to every Moana song with tears in her eyes after that. As a grown woman she finally got to see someone who looks like her be a hero in a Disney movie. Everyone should have that chance.

Thank you so much for this reaction. This movie is very dear to my heart. This movie was my late love’s favorite movie, and I remember seeing this with her back in the theatre with a college friend of ours. We’d always compared ourselves to Moana and Maui. She even named her dog Hei Hei after the chicken. I can still recall when we went to an aquarium and got to watch the dolphins. I’d like to think that would’ve been her spirit animal. 👩🏻‍🦱🧔🏻‍♀️💚🐷🐔🌊

I cry everytime i watch this movie, i connect to it in so many ways 🤷❤️ I am Maori from New Zealand, cousins to the people portrayed here and i grew up hearing stories told by my Grandmother and Great Grandmother of our cultural history, our ancestral line of chieftans going all the way back to and before our tribal waka (ocean voyaging craft) made land off the west coast of the north island of New Zealand and our people settled. Traditionally, this is how our history is passed down, through stories, song, tattoo and they are also symbolically carved into wooden panels which adorn our boats, homes and meeting places. We are master navigators of the oceans, sea faring people and our legends also includes that of Maui and his magical fish hook and that of Mother Earth and Father Sky. I love this film. Its beautiful and pays tribute to culture and my Polynesian family, all who bear distinct similarities in physical features, Language and cuisine, heritage and occupy many islands throughout the pacific ❤

Some scientists think weather was responsible for the Long Pause. Huge tidal waves and sustained El Nino winds and storms like typhoons probably had something to do with it.

About grandma - when little Moana dropped her heart, grandma kept it, at some point in Moana's childhood, grandma should have died of old age, but due to the power of the heart (life) she remained alive until the day she gave it to Moana

I read something that said the chant/dance that Maui did after Te Ka destroyed his hook is based off a traditional New Zealand haka (ceremonial war dance) that warriors do when they know they won't be coming back from battle. A culturally integrated way of showing that Maui was ready to die defending Moana. It still blows me away.

You’re correct on that but New Zealand didn’t come up with that. The people of Samoa did

Those guys on the tapestry are the directors John Musker and Ron Clements making a cameo. This is also the last film Musker did before he retired but it seems Clements is still at Disney but what he currently does there is unknown.

Fun Fact: Lilo and Stitch was Essentially the Ground work for this movie Until Lilo and Stitch came out Disney had no plans for movies in the Polynesian setting but then Lilo and Stitch changed that and you can thank Chris Sanders the Creator/Voice Actor of Stitch for that.

I'm so glad you watched Moana. Moana is my most favorite disney princess and love intrest. Maui is inspired the Hawaiian Demigod himself. Te Ka i really thought she was Pele the goddess of Volcanoes and Fire. Moana who is Spiritually connected to water and the ocean, she is like Namaka the Goddess of Water and The Sea, Moana is a great representation of Oceania, including Polynesia.
