I Was Invited To A Local Qatari Man-Cave (A Majlis). Unbelievable And Spectacular!

I was very kindly messaged by one of mu Qatari followers who invited me over to his friends Majlis.
A Majlis is often a middle eastern style tent or structure that sits inside, or near to the grounds of the home. It is a meeting place for the men, a place to relax and unwind, a place to eat and play video games. A place we would refer to as a "man-cave".
This however is like no other man-cave I have ever seen!
Quite spectacular to say the least!

The literal meaning of "majlis" is "the place for sitting", and is derived from the verb "jalasa" which means "he sat". Majlis is normally used for places where people sit and talk as a group, and is also used for parliament buildings (where representatives sit) and other places with a similar formal/social purpose.

I’m a British Muslim and I’ve never been Doha, but I’m familiar with the Arab culture and their unbelievable levels of hospitality. You are breaking down barriers, teaching so many about other peoples customs and values…something many sinister journalists who flew out during the World Cup deliberately misrepresented

Back in 2010 when I arrived in Doha, I was driving around one evening and came across a marquee with Qatari men in having a pre wedding ceremony. I asked if I could have a look and I was invited in to meet the Qatari man who was about to get married and his father, brothers and friends. The next thing is I’m given a sword and told to pose whilst they took pictures. The next thing is the music started and I was asked if I wanted to dance. I would like to precise that the majlis style and the wood work and chandelier is moroccan work and style, all over the the golf countries they adopt more often the moroccan heritage

It's a communal area that is either somewhere on the grounds of the property or near to the home in a separate compound. This one was away from the home and in it's own private compound.

I am curious to know why you keep going back to Doha. How many times have you went back to Qatar after the World Cup ended? I like what you are doing but I am curious to know what takes you back to there more and more.

I simply ran out of time throughout the world cup and was planning a trip to SE Asia this month. It seemed like the right thing to do to have a week layover on route, so here I am. I love it. I've never experienced hospitality and generosity like it. It's really quite something special and unique.
