I was laid off, now what? I lost my job as a FAANG data scientist in the teach layoffs, but now I'm gearing up to have the best 2023, with more traveling and finding new ways to make money. It's a bummer to lose you job, but I'm taking this opportunity to build a happier life!
If you or someone you know has been impacted by the tech layoffs I'd love to hear your story and what you're doing now, let's chat in the comments :)

I was laid off a week 1/2 ago from my job in tech. It's such a rollercoaster ride of emotions already. I went from angry to sad to hyper productive and back again. 😅The uncertainty is so hard to get used to, but keep trying to remind myself to use the time to do things that make me happy. You got this!

That’s why I hate workaholics, they think that if they put on 996s they will be “vital” and unfireable. They are used as examples of how a good employee is and force others to do as they do or else you look bad.

Can't wait for the update. Ironically, I'm going back to work after a 1.5 year hiatus... quit my corporate job to be with my daughter and start real estate investments with my husband. I found you originally bc of the JT house. We are on the middle of a flip and still wanting to pursue Real Estate, just have to pay the bills, as you say. Thanks for the creative inspiration.

Hi Ana, thank you for your honest video. You are still young and will be successful very soon. I retired from my "dream job" but you nailed it, it was a lot of politics. I retired a few months ago, and I am now 80s and starting to enjoy the life that I missed most: traveling. Go to Germany, enjoy October Fest, go to Bali enjoy your simple life with the natives. I was blessed to travel around the world because of my work as an analyst, but enjoying retirement and without responsibilities while traveling is the top of the my life now. GBU

I love your story. I'm 75 and was there at your age. I have been fired. I have owned my own companies and some have failed. Thankfully, some did not. Like you I wanted to travel the world and have been blessed to do so. It's amazing out there. Live, and learn but I pray you never make the same mistake I did. I was so wrapped up in the next adventure that love and family became a subset. You are bright, articulate, and have something to say. Stay engaged, but never forget the real gift in this world is someone to travel with. Prayers from Atlanta.

Hi Ana, I very much relate to your journey in the sense that I have no desire for a corporate job. I am neurodivergent so I feel some of things I’d say in the office would be mistaken as something else and people would read me with a less than charitable motive. I actually found your channel through your videos on your Joshua Tree property since I recently bought land in the high desert. I am curious what you plan on doing with it since it was in an area where they put a moratorium on short-term rentals. You could always decide just to live there and travel to the beach/ coasts on the weekends. It’s just super hot and dry there during the summer months! The world is your oyster, and it’s very possible that losing this job was one of the best things to happen to you! ❤

In the US it's hard to live w/o making a lot of money because of how predatory the whole system is structured here - impossible to live cheaply and not to feel like a bum at the same time. As someone who have lived in multiple countries, US is good to live in when you make a lot of money and for the purpose of making a lot of money. If one is after other things in life, I don't see it's a healthy or interesting place to be anymore.

Hey Ana, I'm feeling the same about going back to corporate. Like you I was laid off and during that time I've made a lot of reflections about what I really want out of life/work. I've used the time off to learn about investing my money and I really want to focus on passive and long-term growth goals. Hopefully in time I can ditch that corporate 9-5 altogether...but for now it seems to be the safest option. In the meantime I'll be focusing my attention on building up my emergency savings again and investing anything and EVERYTHING I have left into my investment portfolio. There is no dream job for me anymore, I'm chasing my dream lifestyle instead- Take care💚

I was a company for about 10 yrs. ( Medical field) The same year new management came in, I was diagnosed with cancer. Had surgery and treatment and went back to work after 3 months. The following year I was let go, as I was going back to check if the cancer was gone. Fortunately, I had saved 6 months of emergency funds. You just never know what life is going to throw at you

Hello Ana, the reason why most people were laid off is because of inflation the FED is trying to fight inflation by raising interest rate, the higher interest rate the more expensive it becomes to borrow money. Most of these tech companies rely on cheap loans to operate, so now loans have become expensive these companies have to cut cost in order to keep the company running, also these companies grew too big during covid because money was cheap then. So now these companies have to reduce their work force to keep operating. I'll advise that you protect your wealth and also look for an alternative country outside the eu or America that you can live in. Because from what I see it will only get worse and a great reset will take place. So please protect your wealth, buy Gold. 🙏

Welcome to the tech industry I guess...I think a lot of young people that came into the industry within the last 5 or so years had a very storybook version in mind of what being in tech wold be like only to find out that it's actually hard work...and usually when you are a newbie a LOT of hard work. I've been doing this for about 20 years now and I definitely put in my long days and nights when I first started, but after a while you get enough experience under your belt where you aren't really grinding it out anymore (unless that's something you actually want to do). I will say you sound a bit naive on all this traveling business...I mean I wanted to do a LOT of things when I was your age but well, things cost money. And, same as you, I wasn't born into money. But don't let me stop you from trying to live your ideal life. Only advice I'll offer is don't go work for the big tech companies next job...find a start up or just past start up type gig. There you won't be just a number on a spreadsheet. It can be a lot more pressure just because you are so visible, but that can also be a really good thing too. You learn A LOT more than you ever would at a FAANG type gig too. Just my $.02. Anyway, good luck to you.

Maybe you got laid off because you were not good at your job? Sure it's bad to get fired like this but yea I mean if you were integral then it won't happen. There is this real big pattern where young women and younger folk who just get into programming and tech for the salary get a high paying job but don't actually deliver, I mean you are even complaining online, its still unprofessional since the next company will look at this.
