Beautiful harvest. I harvested my potatoes last week. Wow, that CR information is shocking. Thank you for sharing! Have you tried MiGardener's Trifecta fertilizer? I started using it in early Spring, and have had an incredible experience with last year's tomatoes and peppers that weathered the Winter here in Sac County 9B! The tomatoes are now 5 ft tall covered with fruit, and all my peppers are covered in flowers and tiny peppers! Unbelievable!

Oh wow, Thanks for sharing your experience with the trifecta fertilizer, I've heard about it from watching In MIGardener videos. I'm stocked up on fertilizer right now but next time I buy, I will try it out. Thanks for sharing!!

I have my 1st Yukon (Walmart) growing bag & it has been enjoyable so far. I read I don’t need to add soil? I’ll have to look it up again.

Nice! Yep, I'm going to try a couple of grow bags- will try growing some of the gold potatoes from my harvest in one of them, I like giving plants a second chance. For grow bags, I usually fill up about half way with soil, plant the potatoes, and when they grow, I hill with leaves.

Tara, thanks for the tip on a mustard cover crop to reduce nematodes. Would that enable you to plant potatoes in the same plot each year?

Hi Terry, mustard cover crops are said to be good for things like nematodes but I don't think they have been studied extensively yet, at least I could not find a whole lot of research. Potatoes get affected by many different kinds of diseases so ideally you want to plant in a separate spot, however not everyone has that luxury. But a thick layer of compost should at least replenish a lot of the nutrients every year. I know people like Charles Dowding group potatoes in the same plot every year to no ill effect!

Thanks for this video. I saw a video the other day about a woman who planted potatoes in cardboard boxes. When the harvest was ready, she just lifted, cut open the boxes and could easily separate the potatoes from the soil. So simple but effective.

I actually did exactly that 3 years ago, it worked great. Ya, I should probably do that again, thanks!!
