Very thorough review! By coincidence, I have a very similar set of glasses, different brand name, but near to identical specs, including an insert - but no option for ordering actual insert glasses. I adapted a cheapo set of 'supermarket glasses' that more or less match my subscription glasses to fit in there and hot glued these into my more fancy cycling glasses (that had no insert options). worked pretty well. This video triggered that final (decisive) step, so many thanks!

I bought a pair of wayfarer style sunglasses that rise up high on the brow, so that you can see through the top section, when riding in the drops. I asked my optometrist to fit some polarized sunglass lenses to my Rx (and moving the pupil center upwards to the top of the lense) and it works wonderfully. The advantage of glasses over contact lenses is that on an all-day ride your eyes are better oxygenated, and there's never any fuss about cleaning contacts. Disadvantage would be on a cloudy, rainy or foggy day, when removing the glasses may be necessary. The prescription lenses can be quite expensive, but if the frame is large (as tends to be the style now), the lenses can be re-used in a smaller frame later on, if the initial frame breaks or goes out of style.

do u have a picture of it to show an example?

@@jmpvc3295 Model I purchased was Ryders Norvan (it is a Canadian brand that was acquired and discontinued by a large optical firm that makes many other designer brands). I paid about $30 for the frame. They are not the strongest, but are very comfortable. Lenses are some Rx polarized with gradient (darker at top), and have a +1 boost at the lower section of the lense to help me better see the bike computer. This is really an excellent setup.

Paper clip makes a handy zipper pull, for minimum fuss and investment. Thanks for this vid, now I am tempted to try these...
@Sportivecyclist3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think I tried that for a while. The little gap that allowed the original pull to slide on to the zip was large enough that the paper clip kept coming off. Maybe a zip tie. Everything is made better by a zip tie. Glad you found the video useful 😀
@visitken Жыл бұрын
@@Sportivecyclist Better looking than ziptie is a few inches of paracord, knotted together. I was in a local hobby shop and they had a variety of thicknesses, just make sure you get one that doesn't slip out.

Do you find that the top of the frames on the "inside" glasses gets in the way when your head is down and you're trying to look up? I'm looking for cycling glasses so that I don't have to crane my neck quite as much but am worried I would still have to lift my head up to see below the frames.

Oakley EV Zero solves that, but can't get them in prescription.

Inserts are flimsy and mine didn't survive long. Best option I found is Oakley flak 2 with prescription transition lenses. Expensive but reilable.

You can get the Oakley jawbreakers in prescription as well, if you are willing to break the bank.

Just bought a pair of Kapvoe KE9408 cycling glasses with 5 lenses and a prescription frame from Amazon for £27 plus post. Specsavers are sorting the prescription for £61.00 inc fitting. So that’s under £90 all in. I’m not sure what they’ll be like until I get the lenses back next Sunday but I’m optimistic, the fit and quality for the price seem fine and reasonable.
@gridles2 жыл бұрын
how did you get Specsavers to make the lens for these frames? is it as simple as bringing them in and asking? are they a standard size? Thanks
@AbiShafi2 жыл бұрын
@@gridles I just gave them a call, explained what I wanted and they fitted them. I did have to take the whole package for them to see but it wasn’t an issue. They cost £61 all in but I did have to get Specsavers to make a small adjustment for the insert to fit. I’m also trying contacts which work brilliantly however putting them in your eyes are an issue although they say I’ll soon get used to them. The advantage of contacts is if you loose/break your glasses you just buy another pair. Hope it all works out for you. 😎

What about the fogging? This is usally the problem with any cycling glasses in winter and having double glasses can only make it worse.
@Sportivecyclist2 жыл бұрын
No, the double lenses make it better. The fogging tends to be caused by warm moist air condensing on the inside of the glasses because the cold air is cooling the outer face of the lens. With the double lenses, *I think* the outer face of the inner lens isn't getting that same effect because the outer lens is protecting it. Similarly, because the outer lens is further from your face, there is possibly less warm air hitting it. Whatever the reason, my unscientific n=1 testing has found that fogging is much less an issue with these glasses versus just wearing my normal glasses.

Makes me laugh when I see the extra lenses - I have masses of extra, unused lenses, and a handful of broken frames. 😳 (Nowadays, I buy cheap ones from Lidl, Toolstation or Screwfix as fortunately, I don't need a prescription.)
