I feel HMP should hire guys like this to talk from the heart to trainee prison officers. Even if it’s just on a consultant basis. Luckily another inmate let me know they had a bet, plus multiple family members have been in for 20 plus years, (aaand my type of guy is more of an acoustic guitar player so i don't really have an attraction to any of them) That didn't surprise me but what surprised me was how well they knew me despite the fact that I tried to be the same with all of them. If i had a bad day, they knew no matter how bad I tried to act like i was okay, they that i was upset. THAT creeped me out.

People like this are needed within the prison service as a reminder to new and existing officers that smuggling contraband is not worth the risk and also as a reminder as to what the consequences are. Having insight to situations like this would assist prisons in developing protocols to prevent putting prison officers at risk.

Whats crazy about it? Its supply and demand and given how poorly they are paid for what theyre expected to deal with on top of the monotony then what outcome is expected? Its just a product of capatalism and more specifically, black market economics and there are lots of other factors. like he said, only having been searched less than half A dozen times in 18 months. Thinking the odds are in your favour and they might be, the first few times you do it. You dont really consider the odds of doing it hundreds of times at that point Financial trouble, a sense of lonliness, lack of excitement, etc etc. im sure are plenty of other major factors. Similar reasons to why people risk any illicit activity. I dont find it super crazy. Poorly scrutinised choices, sure. But far from crazy. You dont hear about the ones that get away with it obviously.

I hope that the prison service contacting him and asking him to help with their training is the positive change that it could be in an area where they are failing. Clearly the prison service need to support officers so that they don't get to a point where they're easily turned, and I hope that participating in something that makes the service better will give Lee the redemption he so clearly craves. Lee, you made a mistake that led you down a slippery slope, but you've had the balls to admit it and you've done your time. You shouldn't still be paying for that mistake. As a society, we need to be involved more in rehabilitation and not just write people off because of a conviction. Every case is different and every circumstance is different, even if the conviction is the same. Also, there's a huge difference between a single conviction and a rap sheet that's as long as your arm. Good luck to you, Lee - & the same to anyone else reading this who finds themselves in Lee's position. Keep your head high - you've got this x
@connorhehehe10942 жыл бұрын
Should have more support for prisoners too , imagine how many of them feel stuck with crime as an only option due to no work and being shunned from society even if they wish to change, people feel for this officer even tho he did criminal acts and was conscious of it , if a guy on the street did it you only get to hear the fact he did it , you dont get to hear his humanity or how hes in that situation, like you got to hear this prison officers story and see how he's just a guy who made a bad choice and regrets it feels guilty for it , yes a lot of prisoners maybe even most prisoners dont want help like that , some of them do and wanna change but feel stuck , as this prison officer did

@georgina-a2 жыл бұрын
@@connorhehehe1094 No worries 👍 For clarity, I meant everyone. The only differentiation I make is based on attitude. To me, it's all about whether someone wants to go straight or not. If they don't, then there's little that we can do to help them, but where I think we let people down as a society is by not giving them a chance to go straight and judging them solely on one mistake, rather than the immense effort it takes to try and straighten your life out. I spoke about Lee as he was the example in the video (so was an example everyone had seen), but I have good friends who went off the rails when they were younger for all kinds of reasons. They don't deserve to be judged by that alone. One couple I know had a series of theft, car-ringing, and fraud charges. They also grew up poor, became teenage parents, and only had one living parent between them by the time they were 21 - & that parent was an addict. It's not at all surprising that they were easily led down the wrong path - they were young, desperate, and had no guidance. Now, they're on their feet, have been totally legit for years, trained up to get good jobs and are showing their own kids a better path. Without support, intervention, and *real* rehabilitation, the cycle would have continued. Instead, their kids are amazing and their daughter is about to become the first person in either family to go to university. Rehabilitation saves lives and betters society as a whole. My friends got it because a group of us stepped up and helped them, but not everyone has that, which is why it's so important that the justice system offers better support. Makes me angry that so many people are denied it - because helping people not to reoffend doesn't just help that individual, it helps all of us live in a safer world. Apologies for the essay - I get on my soapbox on this topic! 🤦♀️😂

Some good lads in clink who've simply made a bad decision, often when they're at their lowest and vulnerable, or their mental health has affected their judgment. Have a CAT A on my patch (NHS paramedic) which we're back and forth too quite regularly. About five years ago responded there due to an officer who'd been stabbed/slashed in the face and throat. He only survived because four other lads on the wing tackled the kid with the blade, dragging him off the officer and pinning him down till other staff responded. They undoubtedly saved his life, and that's something "scum" would never do. Just goes to show even in prison people still want to do the right thing. Hope you made it out the other side unscathed and got your life back on track mate 👍

His pain, shame & regret is so obvious. I think he's clearly a good person who just made a very big mistake & ended up in a horrific spot he couldn't dig himself out of & for that he's paid his dues. I truly hope things are better for him now & he's doing ok

An honest man speaking with transparency and sincerity. We all make mistakes and silly decisions in life... especially when we are younger. He has paid for his crime and clearly feels an abundance of remorse. I really hope from here onwards he has a smooth uphill journey. Seems like a great guy.. Hoping to see him do a Ted Talk! Great speaker and story teller!
