It's been over a year since I spent time on the Baltic Sea in Poland's famous seaside vista of Sopot. A short train ride to Gdansk, it truly is worth the trip either by itself or as part of a bigger journey to the tri-city area.
Join me on this walking tour and travel vlog. We will explore the beach, the molo, check out the Grand Hotel, and venture over to the side streets in our search for Wojtek the bear. Expect stories throughout the vlog, a church tour, more exploring, and finally a well deserved meal right on the boardwalk. We met even bump into Krzysztof Klenczon.
I consider Sopot to be my adopted hometown. Let me know what you think and if you enjoyed the tour.

If you're into polish cinematography, I strongly recommend my all time favorite "do widzenia do jutra" film shot in Gdańsk and Sopot in the sixties. Had so much fun recognizing film spots nowadays. Besides the great acting of course.

That building you walked past when you were talking about when you were there before, the police were there: I think it was the Zatoka Sztuki (the former name of the restaurant and club). We have such a very sad story here on the coast - a couple of years ago a girl was wandering home from a disco in Sopot and didn't get home, and she was walking along the promenade. As she walked through the park she disappeared. To this day she has not been found, nor has her body. The police are still searching some areas in Gdansk and Sopot for her body. The previous owner of this building is accused of many sex crimes.

@Rene_Moor3095 I didn't know the part of the previous owner. That makes the story even more interesting. Is that why the building is under a new owner now? I know about the girl leaving the disco and she was walking in the direction of Gdansk if memory serves after being at the Crooked House. Is this the same girl?

@@TravelwithMrJon yes, her name is Iwona Wieczorek. It was back in 2010 though. Pretty interesting story, theres a documentary about it on netflix if you want to know more :) It includes interviews with her mom, the police officers etc. Pretty big and well known story here in Poland

SInce you are in 3city take a walk from Gdynia Orlowo to Gdynia Glowna - but through the forest on top of the cliff, not the beach - you will have great views, shade and it won't be as loud

Don't blame cabbage pierogi. This is really healthy and tasty food. Blame restaurant or maybe you were not 100% well before the meal.

@peter_g546 I had cabbage pierogi the next day as well. There's something about cooked cabbage that just didn't work for me. You'll note the herring dish I enjoyed quite a bit.

I love pierogi with cabbage and mushrooms. Perhaps there was a different cook than the last time you were there.
@TravelwithMrJon

@bastian33o2 the menu had changed a little. But yes I think you are right different cook. Although I didn't have any mushrooms in this, it was simply cabbage. That's all I tasted.

@@TravelwithMrJon Usually, a different cook means a different menu. You should give it a try somewhere else, but this time with mushrooms.

Some of the menu items were the same. I tried it with mushrooms the next day in Gdansk...cabbage overpowers it. I need basically all mushrooms with a dash of cabbage :)@@bastian33o2

you should check about Hanseatic league, it explains a lot about similiraties along Baltic and Northern Sea, as well centuries of German influence on this region.

1. The number of your Polish friends is growing. Squirrels in Warsaw, pigeons in Krakow, nutria in Rybnik (if I remember correctly) and now swans and seagulls. 2. Manhattan in Sopot ? So what. You have Lisbon, Amsterdam, Manchester, Milan, Berlin in New England. So we can have Manhattan 😎 3. I didn't know that Wojtek had his statue in Sopot. 4. Even though I knew they wouldn't let you into that church, I still laughed while watching the video 😅😂😅 There are 2 explanations why they didn't let you in. First, you probably haven't gone to confession. Second, the parish priest found out that you vote for Democrats 🤗

@nonperson22 In Gdansk, I befriend a Mandarin duck. The animals won't stop. 2. Yes you can have Manhattan. I don't want it... Take Bronx too. :) 3. He has had that statue for 4 years. I thought there was just the one in Krakow that I found, but he's everywhere. 5. Confession - God it's been years. Decades even. That must be the reason.

@@TravelwithMrJon I dont know what the definition of friendship is in the States, but in Poland eating the duck is not considered a friendship with her 😉 No thanks. We don't want Bronx, keep it for yourself, you can give us Yellowstone or Niagara What ? Wojtek also has a statue in Krakow ? I only heard about Wojtek's statues in Edinburgh, Scotland, Imola, Italy, Cassino, Italy and Venafro, Italy. So you have to confess. When will you be in Rome in an audience with the Pope ? 😉

Audience with Pope Francis.... sooner than later. I never filmed my trip to the Vatican. Good idea :) Must go back. Wojtek is everywhere... I'm going to come back to Poland just to film every location the bear is located. He is in Poznan. I just missed him as they named a street after him that goes to the zoo...@@nonperson22
