That's exactly why I tell people not to set "goals" for winning and losing in poker. It leads players to force situations to make their goal; instead of focusing on what's important: Is the game good? Am I playing well? Am I feeling good mentally and physically? It can take time to develop the discipline; especially if you don't get to play all the time.

Wtf are these huge pre-flop raise amounts (15, 20, 25, even 40) in a 1-2 game? Also, the bets on the flop or turn are small IMO (probably as a result of huge bets pre-flop and small stack sizes in relation to the pot).

do you really think raiseing to 15$ for a 1/2 game is a good idea when like the average stack is like 200-300. I feel like you have to play so tight if 15 is the open with stacks these sizes. in stead of playing 150BB you are playing more like 60

@@chpokervlog yea but just because everyone else is playing a lot of hands opening for 15 does not mean it's technically right. like when you called the 40$ raise with 150 behind. Have to agree with this. You play bad all the time. If you don't run real good you are going to lose. That isn't really what a downswing is. You played bad and ran good later in the session. It might feel great when this happens, but winning by playing bad doesn't teach you how bad you are playing. Losing when playing bad and bemoaning your (perceived) bad luck, also teaches you nothing.

A couple of tips that some players may disagree with, but they'd be wrong, which is why they suck. You're playing 1-2. When you lead for $15, you're not only broadcasting that you have a monster, but you're betting more than double the pot if there are no limpers in front of you. That means that when you don't win, your stack lasts half as long as it should. The max rake for 1/2, at most casinos, with a $300 buy-in is $3. You want to tip the dealer and cover any extra rake for bad beat and high hand jackpots. So, lead out for $8. That's a dollar more than pot to start, which multiplies exponentially as the hand progresses, so if only you and one other player make it to showdown, then it's all covered. If there's a third player, you now have equity invested in tips and rake. Most players never consider this. Also, under the gun you obviously want to play very strong hands. Limp to reraise. It's an old trick, but it still works. Be able to fold big pairs on draw heavy boards if nobody bets for you preflop, which is unusual anyway, but then you only lose $2. It's not a tourney. You can afford to wait for another chance. It's always best to isolate when you aren't playing huge draws, obviously. Take this particular hand you've shown us. You limp, guy to the left bets, you get however many callers between, then you pot it. (Keep your utg reraise range to A/K, A/Q suited and big pocket pairs. If you're not willing to reraise with it, maybe don't even play it utg. Obviously, it's hard to muck hands like A-J or A-10 suited, but be careful hitting your ace.) Then your flop hits, you c-bet, and take it down post flop unless someone hits a set, which is uncommon. If you get a caller, then you've led the action leaving them to guess what you have. If they have kings or aces, you've still got outs. But, since you're never folding that hand, keep leading the action. Or, check it to reraise again if you're playing nits, in order to get it all in on the flop. Another thing, don't minraise. 2.5-3.5x, depending on how much action you want. With that hand, I'd go 2.5x, just because you're playing for the nuts. The ace paired is just backup in case you miss. If you minraise, it's always a tell, PLUS, if you don't have the nuts, you're pricing them, basically inviting them to suck out if they are thinking about folding. Give them a little room to fold. Same thing with the "down bet". You're forcing them to call, so you should never do it without the nuts, and you're afraid that your opponent will fold when you try to get the correct value, on the river. Your A-Q/clubs wins a $60-70, rather than chopping, if you try this "sniper style" of play. Why? Because the new guy is not going to continue, without clubs in his hand, against God knows what. Hes going put you on kings or aces there. Another tip, learn to play for positive odds, rather than even odds or against the odds. If you understand what im saying here, you are smart and will always win in the long run. Most players lose, and many good players, who don't understand this, break even. Play for positive odds. Last tip, this is crucial, the ONLY time that you EVER have an edge in poker is when you're playing opponents who are not as good as you. Don't berate them or coach them when they play bad and win against you. Tell them it was a nice hand, nicely played, and wait for another chance. You will get another chance. If there's a player who is better than you, and you can always tell who they are, stay out of pots with them unless you must play them. Be careful, because they're trying to trap a player as well. I used to play low stakes for a living, and I've already said too much. I hope this helps.
