The biggest reason why I prefer the xm5s over the older Sony models is the sound quality, it's not that the bass is lacking or the treble is higher, but it sounds like a veil has been lifted. The XM3s especially sound really dark and boomy. In some songs you can tell where the bass has a texture and richness to it like a low guitar note, the xm5 manage to deliver that much much better than my old XM3s!
@mark13131313132 жыл бұрын
You know the sony app and that you can eq the headphones?? I EQed my xm3 and they nearly sound the same to the xm5.... The xm5 only have a little wider stage and less bas punch 'cause of the smaller drivers. Features like NC, Ambient, Ear-Rec, MultiDevice etc. are really great upgrades, but is that worth it to sell the xm3 for 150 and lose maybe 200.

Granted, I use headphones a bit different than most people who review such things. I use them at the office where I will be using them for video/audio meetings [we all turn off our video these days - no one wants to look at a nerd], phone calls, music of all kinds, books, podcasts but the biggest feature is shutting out the office noise. All of the programmers will spend at least $300 on making sure that their co-workers are audially gone, so that we can snap ourselves back into solving the problem of the day. My XM5, older XM3 that I gave away to a co-worker and the first generation will last for days. At home and home office, I will use Bose 35 II because my wife got them for me... Biggest feature that threw me off with my XM5 is I have them hooked up to my phone and super-duper laptop. When I get a call [have the office phone go through my cell phone], I can never be quite sure who is answering - laptop, cell or just hearing voices again. That has brought about some interesting conversations, especially when getting a call from VPs and not knowing how they are hearing me.

Is it true that XM5's ANC is completely adaptive, where you can only turn it on and off, but have no way to manually adjust its strength when it is on? I heard complaints about the ANC's adaptability being too intermittent and abrupt, which makes it feel like it is stuttering and uncomfortable. Has the adaptive ANC bothered you at all?
@NewStuffTV12 жыл бұрын

But when you've got a wide head, the 5s are so much more comfortable. The foams don't squash as much on the 5s as they do on the 4s. However, I needed something for the heavy duty listening days when I need to block out background noise and really hone in on some superb audio quality (either for games, animation, or music). Your points really resonated with me and I feel even better knowing my purchase was a wise one......thanks again! Thanks as always for a great video. I just bought myself a set of these headphones. I really don’t need them as I already have the bose 700’s and the apple airpod max and the space quite 45 headphones. I’m glad to see these headphones don’t fold. I had the xm4 headphones one time and I immediate returned them due to how cheap they felt and I was afraid I’d accccidentally break them. I’ll post another comment once I receive them and have had time to try them out. Thanks as will for describing the headphones as being blind it really helps me get an idea of what they are like before I have them in my hands.

how do you think these compare to the Bose 700s? Is it work the extra?
@NewStuffTV12 жыл бұрын
I remember being in the store comparing them side by side. The ANC in the 700 was not as good as Sony’s nor was the comfort. Sound quality is subjective, so that's totally up to you. I walked out of the store with the XM5 obviously. 👊🏾

I don't understand the lack of NFC either. I rarely used it with my past Sony headphones, but it was nice to have it in case you didn't or couldn't pair it.

@New Stuff TV I've been wanting to buy but can't decide which ones to get xm5s or xm4s I mainly want it for audio quality and anc. The country where I stay has a sale going for both, the xm5s cost me $330 and xm4 cost me $245. I really wanna get the xm5s but I've kinda heard the anc is a bit shit. But I don't mind getting xm4s but it's been over 2 years since it came out so idk how long will that investment last. Help me choose

Buy the Sony headphones from best buys and buy a warranty with them. Then you can take them back if you have a problem with them. Keep in mind that best buys has 2 different types of warranty. I like the replacement warranty, know questions asked!🤗

Love the review. I'm still using my Sony whxm3 and love the NFC. I used to like the Sony folding but I've got some Bose NC700 and I don't mind the non folding, most of the time. Sony app control is great.

Hi Antwan ! I have been looking for a whole day and still haven't found any answer, maybe you could help 😁 ! Long story short, I have been a Parrot Zik fan for about 10 years, I just found out that they decided to discontinue them and now I am looking for a set of headphones with pretty much the same quality and features. I see that you have a Parrot Zik 2, I was using a Zik 3 but do you have any recommendation ? Thank you so much for your help ! enjoy your sunday :)

I seriously feel your pain! Back in 2016/17, I switched to the Sony WF-1000XM3 and stuck with those until the XM5 cam out. That's currently what I use. The XM3 EQ has a setting called "Surround VPT" and I loved it. It gives the music a more spacious sound like a home stereo. They've done away with that feature in the XM5, but to me they still sound fantastic. Another thing I like about the Sony XM5 is the automation of noise cancelling and ambient sound. Sony does the best job at this compared to any other brand. One last thing is the battery... All of these newer headphones have 40-50 hour batteries! I hope that helps, if you have anymore questions it's easier for me to be contacted on Instagram. Good luck!

@@NewStuffTV1 😣I have been depressed ever since I read the news... Why would they do that🥺Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I will definitely get them two and give the one I won't use to my siblings 😆. I really appreciate this review especially since you showed the Parrots. I still have those Parrots and absolutely love their SQ and ANC but I just flew from Perth to Dubai and Dubai to Seattle in 1 day and yeah that was longer than an 8 hour flight. I was hurting when they needed to be recharged so now I've started researching a comparable ANC headphone. I'm still contemplating the WH-1000XM4 or WH-1000XM5 but I think either will be fine based off the reviews I've seen.
