The thing about admitting you were wrong is just that. You were wrong. Dr Berry promoted his wrong understanding to his audience, 2,5 million people, according to the number of subscribers. I think that. in future, he aught to adopt a much less certain view of what he feel is right, take a more dialectical approach. I have been dubious of the anti-vegetarian body on the grounds that there are millions of vegetarians in this world who get by just fine, but his concern about processed foods is much more convincing.

It just dawned on me recently that after years of having stiff hands upon waking, I don’t have that anymore. 69 yrs old. I went from 212 lbs to 165. I started 3 yrs ago and have found that 165 is my sweet spot. I never knew it would be so low. Never felt better. Won’t bore ya’ll with the other numerous improvements that I now enjoy. This sounds crazy, but I have learned to appreciate hunger. I don’t always drop what I’m doing and eat, I wait awhile and the hunger goes away. In my layman’s mind, my body is just shifting into fat burning and autophagy. I am not a pure carnivore, but close to it.

@bonnielee713410 ай бұрын
@jakebourland2212, I think I can answer this. I think it means allowing yourself to get knocked out of ketosis every once in a while. So for instance, I saw an interview with a man, who ate only meat or eggs but every once in a while, he would have a piece of fruit. He chose a meat diet, at a very young age and his family tried to fight him on it, had him at least try a food, which he would, and then the family just figured to let him simply eat his way and it has worked for him for 40 years. He’s like 54 now. He’s the guy, in Florida, who eats the armadillos or some sort of animal that is there in abundance. He has ducks, as pets and he eats the duck eggs. I think Dr. Chaffee did an interview with him. Go look it up, it’s good.

I was vegetarian for much of my life and even when I included meat it was only bacon, chicken and fish, no red meat. I am a 79 year old woman and in the past few years I developed peripheral neuropathy and decided to try a carnivore diet to see if it helps. I never had a problem with veggies, and thanks to a ketogenic lifestyle for the past six years I gave up fruit apart from occasional berries. Although there has been no improvement in the neuropathy symptoms, it has not continued to progress and within two days of cutting out all plants seven months ago, and eating mainly beef and oily fish, my lifelong struggles with anxiety and depression just vanished. That alone is enough for me to remain on carnivore forever.

Sounds like life at 79 can just get better & better! May I recommend that you watch any of the many YT interview videos (including with KenDBerryMD!) that Neurologist/SleepSpecialist Dr. Stasha Gominak has done on how much-higher D "LEVELS" (not doses!) can fix our long-broken D-dependent microbiomes & sleep switches. Once we again get our nightly N-REM Delta Wave DeepSleep cycles, uninterrupted (mouth-taping helps a lot) our body can begin really fixing long ago broken bits that it would already have fixed if we had had not let our D levels down. Decades of high-sugar inflammation led our immune systems to eat our own peripheral nerve myelin sheaths, just like in Multiple sclerosis (MS)! But Keto at least ended additional damage. Sleep must be carefully supported to attempt repairs. I started Keto/IF after a new doc tested & got my level from a dangerous 6ng/ml pre-Covid, up to 54ng (135nmol) by the time I caught Covid almost asymptomatically at BMI=44 & 5 CovidComorbidities. I was first surprised how my decades of severe depression & many pains just fell away. So first, with new hope & motivation, I began Keto/IF! Then, several months later I found Gominak online and her SleepRite Protocol. I watched many of her 2-hour fascinating interviews, upped my dosage again to get my level up between 70-80ng/ml as she recommended, took some extra B's and amazingly my own 4-years of symptomatic peripheral neuropathy (previously masked for unknown years by my anti-seizure Carbamazepine/Tegretol!) and hot flashes quickly began disappearing! But I melted too much D-loaded fat far too fast into my bloodstream without dropping my dosage enough, had to quit cold turkey for a month just to bring my level back down. Tragically the neuropathy (and hot flashes) quickly reappeared. I have yet to repeat that amazing experience. But I know it will happen again soon, if I can just make myself get off of blue-light tech, go to bed at a good time and always tape my lips! (Not as easy as just getting my D into the right place.)

I'm a living testament to this very thing. Love vegetables, no denying that, but for the 70 years I was eating them, I constantly had painful, terrible issues, pretty much everything you listed. Went to keto four years ago, lost a good deal of weight, but the issues continued, and I actually began feeling much worse. Never realized at all that it might be the very things we're told to eat on keto.... Finally, FINALLY listened to all the carnivores on YT and made up my mind that I had nothing to lose except pain and inflammation, so went full-on carnivore two weeks ago. Within 48 hours I could feel improvements, and within ten days felt better than I have my entire seven decades. Now, two weeks in, I don't miss the vegetables, the nut flours I was making too many keto recipes with, none of it. It was listening to you, Dr. Berry, and to Mikhaila Peterson that finally convinced me that the time for change had arrived. Ms. Peterson's response to the question "Don't you get tired of eating the same few foods for every meal?" was exactly what I'm now thinking: "Yes, I do, but the alternative is so much worse!" That young woman went through proverbial hell until she figured out what was killing her and then made the necessary changes. I don't plan to ever go back to the old way of eating, not when carnivore has apparently eliminated, and is eliminating, decades of chronic pain and conditions that likely could have been avoided had such a way of eating been available when I was a kid and teen. I'm not faulting my parents---they raised us in the 1950s through the 70s, and did the absolute best with what knowledge was available at the time. But now it's time for me to take charge of my own life.

The result was astonishing, my foggy brain, diarrhoea and tiredness after lunch were gone just within a week of trial. Another important discovery was about my mental health. I had been so defensive for so long time after becoming a vegetarian and vegan about 6 years ago. Not knowing it might be caused by the ‘defence system’ of the veggies I consumed. And the diarrhoea and sometimes constipation caused by my high fibre yet inflammatory diet. Besides, lacking of fat intake led to hormone imbalance. My emotion was so unstable and most of time, I was so negative. Now I become so energetic, so happy, so positive, so focused and so calm throughout the day. Thanks God! Felt like my legs would eventually die on me. Other issues too, all chocked up to old age. Changed to 0 carb carnivore and within 10 days all the aches and pains were gone, twice the energy, other improvements too. So I must have been wrong. I've been gobsmacked. I've always had terrible reactions to certain vegetables since I was a young kid. My distress was ignored and I was assured by my parents and doctors that veges weren't the problem, and that if I wanted to feel better, I had to eat MORE! Years of terrible stomach pains, literal vomiting after eating certain cruciferous veges (which was seen as "being dramatic"), having to lie down and moan on the coach after a meal, it was all somehow seen as a moral failing on my part. Years later, come to find that I have a huge insensitivity/allergy to broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, etc. Oops! I've had so many experiences with doctors not listening to me and ignoring my experience.
@amphibeingmcshpongletron50262 жыл бұрын
Even when I tried keto, I still incorporated some veges, but only ones I could just barely tolerate. When I told my doctor I was doing keto, he was VERY concerned. We did blood work, then he told me to come in months later to follow up. He said that I would be stressing my kidneys and liver, and that I should proceed with caution and expect bad results on biomarkers my next visit. Well, at my next appointment, my doctor comes in flustered. He kept shaking his head and saying that my blood tests showed that my kidneys and liver were "perfect", in his own disappointed words. He couldn't believe it and was visibly annoyed/frustrated, like he WANTED the results to be bad. You know what he recommended after all those tests? That I stop keto...When asked "why?", given my results, he said "I have no test results to back this up, but *I FEEL LIKE* it just cant be good for you". I'd never had results that good or felt better in my life! And that was his recommendation! He had no knowledge of ketosis besides being taught it was a "starvation mode". Eventually, he sort of came around and said to do what I wanted, as long as I was healthy and felt good, but that took a while. I was his "patient zero" when it came to keto. This was just another experience that made me reconsider the idea that doctors and family members (who also thought I was crazy at the time) always know what's best for me.

I am going to say something about all of the people who cannot eat cruciferous vegetables. And do you know how to tell if people can eat cruciferous vegetables? It is when they are children. If children like to eat those vegetables, then their metabolism is able to handle those vegetables. If a child turns away and strongly rejects those vegetables, their body/metabolism is telling them that those vegetables are going to cause serious problems. Unfortunately, I did not learn this until I was 54 years old ... from a Naturopathic doctor, that my metabolism was such that I should never eat, Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Broccoli, and Kale. He changed my life so much. I felt so, so, so much better after taking those foods out of my nutrition program.

Dr. Berry I cannot begin to express the gratitude for the research you do and your decision to bring the amalgamation of your studies to the world. I'm 64 and have been studying nutrition for decades. Since 2016 after an accident which left me with 3 crushed vertebra I have intensified my studies. As I pulled published papers I began to see patterns and certian persons like yourself popped up on my KZbin feed. I grew up on a ranch and raising animals allowed me to experiment with the feeds of animals. Through working with animals I was aware that most plant foods were not easily assimilated. However now through your excellent research and public teachings I now realize that I reached a stage of malnutrition after my back was broken, that combined with a lifetime of struggle with allergies and asthma meant I was fighting INFLAMMATION. This idea was new to me. My GP of 18 years had only just been coming to new realizations himself when the Pandemic hit and he resigned. With chaos reigning and after 4 bouts of serious upper respiratory infections during the past two years I became desperate and dumped all my meds and went carnivore as an elimination diet to see what was causing my inflammation. I was shocked to find that not only must I keep my carbs exceedingly low but I have a problem with cow dairy that I never knew I had! My " mysterious" episodes of idiopathic joint and muscle pain is from grains, dairy ( bovine) , fruits and super processed food like items. Keep preaching Doctor ! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

It's certainly been true for me that cutting out the simple carbohydrates has been the key to my weight loss and the improvement of my arthritis symptoms. I'd say the most impactful combination has been the removal of alcohol and the simple, starchy carbs from my diet. I find that fermented vegetables, mainly kimchi, is something that is tolerable and is potentially helpful with regularity. I have to say, though, it's been hard to give up all the things I used to enjoy eating. Just the same, the results speak for themselves and your videos I credit as being quite helpful to me over the last two years.

I was so hopeful when I began keto Nov of 2019. I dropped 85 lbs in 6 months. But slowly, instead of my eczema getting better, it ravaged me. Painfully so. I'll never know exactly why...but I eventually, one by one cut everything out but meat, butter, heavy cream, coffee and a much reduced amount of sweetener for my coffee. Mostly ribeye and bacon for meat. Only chicken is chicken liver. And after cutting out the last vegetable...my eczema finally, blessedly left me. Its only been 3 months, but after 35 years of never being completely cleared up, (and like I said, keto seemed to make it worse...even steroids didn't ease it) I am 100% scale/blister/rash free. Knocking on wood of course. 😆 Thanks a million Dr Berry!! I NEVER would have given up every veg without you AND Neisha too! For some reason vegetables seem to impact me in a very postive way. Broccoli and Baby Spinach and carrots are good so what I will do is make sure to not overdue it with them. I also eat some blueberries, melon, strawberries but again in moderation. intermittent Eating has really helped too. 16 off and 8 on with 2 or at most 3 meals a day. One meal is huge (900 plus calories) and that helps with Satiety. I can now laugh at the nutritionists and articles that all said eat all day and mini-meals = 6-8 meals a day. Pasture raised (slaughtered & frozen in late summer) also means you can get more Vitamin D, but dietary is never enough! Vitamin D insufficiency is why you are suffering from osteoporosis, like an adult form of weak-boned Rickets? (not from the inflammatory veggies/carbs), so please get your levels taken winter & summer to help set how much additional D you might need. Lots of small fatty fish or salmon, and of course pasture-raised meat and eggs can only get you part way there. Powerful Summer UVB and either a Winter or even a year-round supplement (like Fauci-the-Corrupt protects himself with) may be necessary to get evolutionarily replete, like the thin-happy-healthy Maasai at around 50ng/ml (who still die young in their many famines!

Is there certain organ meats we need to eat and take supplements? My daughter said if I do this I have to make sure I’m eating all the meats/organs etc. so I been afraid to try!

@@blessedbeyondmeasure-sisdeb It might vary from person to person, but many of us don't eat organs. You might need to supplement magnesium and/or potassium, and iodine if you don't eat enough seafood, but that's true of a lot of people eating a high carb diet.

I went on a full conivore diet for 3 months, and I had the best bowel movements I've ever had. I also lost 40 lbs.

Fortunately for me, I haven't had the problems you mentioned. This is good, as I love the low-carb vegetables that I do eat. The keto lifestyle has saved my life.
