Now this older video was definitely polarizing to put it lightly, and over the last year and a half I’ve learned a lot about monitors, made mistakes, corrected them, and definitely have a much larger pool of knowledge now vs then, so today I want to strap my monocle on and reexamine the main points of this video today to see if I still agree.

Ultrawide is alot like high refreshrates, It's hard to go back to a low refresh rate after experiencing a high refresh one. It's also very hard to go back to 16:9 after 21:9, it just feels cramped like someone cut off a third of your screen.

I've had an ultrawide for over 3 years and never once experienced a downfall. Every game I play has support or a way to make it work. Also for videos theres an extension called ultrawideo that lets you stretch or upscale any video thats playing in the browser. Many movies are native 21:9 and its super immersive watching them. Even for video editing I think its amazing, even when making 16:9 videos its still better for the workspace. I can't wait to get an ultrawide oled once they get a little better and cheaper.

I just yesterday got my LG OLED Ultrawide in and I am even more in love with it now then I was 4 years ago. There is a deal on the LG 34" OLEDs as I type this. They went from $1300.00 to $800. As someone who gamed for years on 49" Oddysey Ultrawides, i can say that the 57" Oddysey Ultrawide with its 4k vertical resolution was a game changer for myself. Finally the proper amount of top to bottom real estate to truly enjoy the experience. That being said, it takes a powerful GPU to be able to take advantage of this thing. But, if you have a 4090, i highly recommend it. 👌

I would greatly benefit from an ultrawide (or even better, a super ultra wide), but I don't use one because an (probably) edge case reason. First why would I benefit from it? Currently I'm using a dual monitor setup, because I need the screen real estate for work. If I could fuse them into one monitor I wouldn't need an additional expensive KVM Switch to switch between PC and Laptop and that would GREATLY reduce the kable mess, since a KVM for two monitors essentially triples the amount of cables needed. But why don't I use an ultrawide then? The dual monitor setup allows me to play games full screen while having something on my second display... for work, monitoring or just plain secondary entertainment like a Twitch stream or KZbin video. Of course there is that technology that is called Picture-By-Picture Mode, allowing to divide the screen into two virtual monitors. But as far as I am aware, that technology is currently flawed for me, because it isn't compatible with HDR or even G-Sync / Freesync and I don't want to compromise on that.

In my opinion Ultrawide is totally worth it and 21:9 is great for all around use for most people, 32:9 only for productivity. Yes even when you have a ppi (pixel density) at 84. That is still about 3 pixels per millimeter. If you are not closer than 40 cm that is hardly noticeable. No one should be this close to a screen. I have a 45" OLED with 1440p @ 240 Hz and it is perfect for gaming. The lower pixel count allows for higher fps and the image looks sharp and clean. No need for higher resolutions for now. I can not speak about productivity yet, if you do graphical artwork or write small text then yes a smaller 4K monitor is better, but that is only for professionals, which 99.9 % of people who are interested in OLED are not. Also if you are used to playing in 16:9 and wanna play comptetitive games at maybe 360Hz or more than sure, stick to that. But again most people wont need that and you can still perform at the top 1% in any competive game with a 21:9 monitor, while having all the benefits in screen space, immersion, flexibility, better fov, higher productivity and seeing enemies in FPS or objects in games you would usually not see.

Off-topic, but one thing I've never understood, why are we sticking to the multiplication of pixels from back in the 1280x720 era? 🤷‍♂Every resolution is just 2 or 3 times of that, keeping the 16:9 aspect ratio. Why don't we have TVs and monitors at 2000x1000, then 4000x2000 etc resolution? 🤷‍♂ And it would be perfect for phones too! Even MKBHD and other youtubers shoot their content at 2:1 or 20:10 (18:9 by today's standards), for the exact reason, that their videos fill in the smartphone screens better. We could call them 1000p, 2000p etc. Would be the size of two squares next to each other, would be so easy. 🤔 Then ultrawide stuff could be 3 squares next to each other, solved. (3000x1000 or 9000x3000 pixels.)

After 3 months with G93SC, I must say 32:9 is a sweet spot. Everything is better, there's no exceptions. You just adapt to extra width get use to it, and than use it to your own advantage - in CS2 for example I can take way more risky angles, because I see all positions where enemy can come from. In game's like GOW or Tsushima I can see more enemies > make better decisions. Let alone 32:9 looks stunning it's like make any game look 2x better button. Support of ultrawide - honestly that's not really a problem, most game's support everything out of the box, some need mods to remove black bars (just type game name 32:9 drag drop mod that's it). While anything older is fixed by flawless widescreen. So honestly it's completely fine. FOV stretching - it's complete bs, you can see it only if you watch some one playing and you staying on side, otherwise - you can't really notice it while you using monitor yourself. (Keep in mind that I'm always maxing out FOV slider - if you really sensitive to stretching, go buy 4:3 monitor because even 16:9 has it)

Ultrawide is great for productivity, except if the resolution is only x1440. I had a curved 38 inch Dell 3840x1600 for a couple of years and it was very good for everything except movies and gaming. Replaced it with a LG C3 42 which is definitely a big improvement. But I agree with you, I think a (curved) ultrawide 5120x2160 OLED would be the ideal, endgame monitor as it caters for 4K content as well as having that extra real estate for productivity and more immersive gaming. Maybe by the time that spec is more common they'll have moved on to Micro LED, which I've also got my eye on, pun intended! ;-)

I play quake champions. I use a ultrawide now. I can give you a good game with 21:9 or 16:9. It doesn't matter. Some games I have to window it. Blizzard games. AKA starcraft 2. No ultrawide in competitive. you will get banned. 16:9 or no go. Productivity though. I'm glad I got it.

Of course you were wrong. Even a 6yo child could see how it's better for productivity, having things in windows, side by side, more space etc, I literally would drop in productivity by 50% if I didn't use a 32:9 monitor, you can set up whatever you need specifically for 16:9 and then have more space on the sides. I would hesitate to call any monitor reviewer a gamer too, because they're all so clearly clueless about ultrawide support. I've been playing in 32:9 or more (triple monitor 7680x1440 surround) since 2013, that's 11 years and over 100 games, that's before ultrawides existed, and even then almost every game I was able to play that way including older titles like the original 2007 Bioshock. Native support? No. 10 minutes to implement a fix including fov? Yes. Anyone who would rather not play a game because of that is just lazy, or not use a superior monitor because of that is insane. Yes it's unacceptable that new releases now often don't have native support, but that doesn't mean that there's no support at all.

I've been using a beautiful 120hz ultrawide monitor for about six years now and I'm just about ready to go back to a standard format 1440p monitor. While it can be amazing when it does work, the added horizontal space isn't worth the ~20% tax on the GPU or any of the smaller headaches like pillar-boxing. To have an UW gaming monitor is ultimately a promise to yourself to always be using a pinnacle GPU which, in today's market, is a very expensive affair.

@cenciende9401
@cenciende9401 2 ай бұрын
Because 4K IS the high resolution, 5120x1440 is more than enough already, 4K is super high at 32:9. There is no possible use case where you could need higher than that.

Half screen for gaming, other half to see the streaming screen
@Skylancer727
@Skylancer727 2 ай бұрын
I mean if you're just using half for stuff you don't care how it looks, just get a cheap second display. Windows in many cases can be a pain when it comes to splitting your displays. Like I really considered getting the Odyssey Neo G9 32:9 as it's the size of two 16:9 displays, but Windows makes that nearly useless. Like that many games actively run poorly when not in exclusive fullscreen, some apps won't let you choose where to put them, etc.
