What he's doing right now is what a lot of people did with the Warriors in the NBA from 2014-2018. I know a few who started watching basketball then and have continued to be warrior fans even today. That's totally fine in my book, not everyone becomes a fan of the sport while their team is mid or sucks.

Recently, with the World Series, my coworker had the games on and while we were watching he would just explain everything I didn’t know about the games and rules to mean, and told me about the dances the dodgers do, showing me videos.
