To clarify, 200,000 yen (Ai's monthly paycheck before she got really big) is about 1500 USD, not 20,000. Don't know what her expenses would be like, but she was certainly not thriving. There's a reason a lot of idols don't make it :/

Fun fact! The title “oshi no ko” has 2 meanings, the first one being “the girl I support” as in aqua and ruby being fans of Ai in their previous lives, and the second one being “the children of the girl I support” or “the children of my idol” which also refers to aqua and ruby being the children of Ai!

It actually has four possible meanings, because "oshi" (推し) can mean either a hardcore fan OR the thing a hardcore fan is a supporter of. So it can mean 1) The kid who is being promoted, 2) the kid who is a hardcore supporter, 3) the child of someone being promoted or 4) child of a hardcore supporter. *ON TOP OF THAT* it also rhymes with "hoshino" which is the main character's family name which means "stars" and Ai's name is spelled the same as the English word "Eye" in Katakana which relates to the characters having stars in their eyes. So there are a ton of layers to the name.

推し is basically similar to simping for someone.and 子 means either a child or a young person often used for model/idol. so when I first heard the title 推しの子, I thought it was talking about simping for Ai. but after I watched the show, I realized that by 推しの子, it means children who simp for Ai

Sad that till now they both don't know that they were related to each other in their previous life and it seems they will be at opposing sides in the coming episodes. It's dark and will tell you the sadness associated with Idol life, the mental trauma and burden as well. It becomes very dark. Very Dark You won't be disappointed. I really liked the boy side of the story at the beginning and later on the girls side of the story as well I believe the manga is approaching it's end.

18:51 It's extremely sad that they showed the killer's gift to Ai right after giving us a red flag. I don't know why but it just seems so tragic. Ai is just someone who wants to love people but doesn't know how, she lied to her audiences hoping these lies come true and turned out, she succeeded. She's just a kind person deep down, so kind that she remembers the name of the fans, so kind that she cares and worries about other people around her, unlike what she claimed herself to be. It's ironic what killed her in the end is her honesty.

But in the end theyre all still idols anyway just from different countries so its not a big deal lol Though the way kpop functions as a market and business is different now compared to jpop (especially ever since bts blew up) kpop seems to value visuals and aesthetics meanwhile jpop is far worse when it comes to the "fantasies" being made up for the fans. im saying this confidently bc a lot of kpop idols r now being more open abt relationship and trying to break the standards.

my most favorite thing about oshi no ko is how ai’s eyes sparkle… like, they _sparkle._ that’s the first thing you notice about her. it was adorable how aqua and ruby inherited that sparkle in one of their eyes as well. it really touched my soul when she was talking to her future manger about how she think she’d be a bad idol because she won’t be able to truly love her fans since she was never loved herself nor loved anyone else, and her sparkle was dim, but then they lit up like fireworks, and that was one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen. but god… what truly broke me was how that sparkle from her eyes slowly lost their light as she died until completely disappearing. that haunts me.

I heard it was good, but didn't expect an actual 10/10. By the way, this episode adapts the first volume of the manga. I seriously don't know how people managed to survive the shock week after week when the manga debuted in Weekly Young Jump... The story changed genre every chapter for a whole volume! I can't wait for the next episode, for real. Also, small note: 200.000 Yen is nowhere near 20.000$ She was earning a bit less than 1.500$ a month.

Why is Nick so good at guessing the major plot twists and mysteries in anime before they come up every single time? Bro your guessing skills are too good

I am Japanese. I'm your fan. I'm not good at English, but I'll comment. The original author of "Oshinoko" also drew a manga called "Kaguya-sama". "Kaguya-sama" has been made into an anime. I would also like to see the "Kaguya-sama" reaction!!!

Btw Nick, if you carefully read the meaning of the song’s lyrics, it perfectly represents the idol industry, Ai herself and her perspective on the industry, herself and her children. And the last part is directly what she said when she died. Really hits the feels…

I started this because you reacted to it. That, and I saw the scene towards the end. Just so you know. The main idols name is Hoshino Ai pronounced [Ho - She - Know / Eye] Ai is one of many ways to say Love Hoshi is Japanese for Star So her name could be translated to Star Love.

I had and still have high expectations for this anime since it's written by same guy who created Kaguya-sama, and boy, so far it doesn't dissapoint at all. I only "regret" watching & finishing Assassination Classroom (which I absolutely reccomend, one of the best shows I've ever seen) day before watching Oshi No Ko, since the ending was so strong I literally didn't have any spare tears to shed here. Maybe if I didn't watch AssClass before this, some moments might have hit me more, but that's just life.

i didnt expect you to react to this, but oh man i'm glad you did, this prologue will probably go down on anime's history as one of, or maybe the best first episode ever. It had everything, from start to end, emotional, beautiful, interesting, the colors, the little details like the stars in their eyes (like when the blond guy scouted ai for the first time, her star was black and then when she realized she could be an idol, it turned white), oh man, this is just epic, out of this world, i'm so happy that i watched this prologue without searching for anything of what this was about, i just went with the flow and....this could very well be, one of the best animes ever made, and i really hope that it meets the expectations, cause this prologue raised the bar toooo damn high haha ps: this is from the same creator of kaguya-sama, so yeah, we can expect some quality work, since kaguya-sama was also really damn good

So I usually watch your videos from my mobile. But this time, I wanted to experience your epic reactions to this epic “PROLOGUE” of an amazing story in the big screen. So I opened my tv, and watched your video for the whole 46 minutes, just like that! And yeah man, felt all the emotions again just as I saw it for the first time with you. I don’t know how the other episodes will be, but I am gonna keep watching it weekly just because how great that first episode was! And yeah, if it really matches the quality of this first episode, then please do a weekly video of this show if possible! Otherwise you can make it patreon exclusive. Hopefully your followers will see the videos more here.

Just for context Nick, Ai's name literally translates to "Love". And her full name "Ai hoshino" Translates to "Star Love"(Hoshi no Ai)or smt along those lines. I've not studied Japanese man i use google translate so.
