There needs to be a yearly category in the Oscars called “The Oopsie Award,” where the Academy selects a film older than ten-years to be awarded recognition it was denied.

I mean, I get it, but it is just snark. And that's fairly simple to do when you're setting yourself up. Doesn't mean it isn't entertaining or at times clever, but when this one came out the Academy still had standards. Now, today that might be different.

When she was auditioning for 'Blazing Saddles', Mel Brooks asked her to lift her skirt so he could see her legs (he wanted to make sure she could pull off a Marlene Dietrich look). She wasn't sure what he wanted, so as she showed off her gams she tells Brooks 'No touching.'

This three-ending climax actually was only used on the home video version. When it was in theaters, each theater showed only one ending. The movie studio was paranoid about losing money off spoilers, so they tried to ensure the biggest box office possible by switching out endings, with each version in each theater labeled "A," "B," or "C," which also was a ploy to get people to attend multiple screenings.
@Drawkcabi

Yep. I saw it in theaters and got just the Miss Peacock ending. When it later came out on video and I saw all three I felt retroactively disappointed because I though the Miss Peacock one was the weakest of the three. However, love this movie no matter what, it's in my top 25 favorite movies of all time.

@@frankrossi6972 I think one of the biggest scheduling blunders a studio made was opening Dutch, a John Hughes movie set at Thanksgiving, in the middle of summer. I think if it had come out during the holidays it might have had a better chance. Now it's this obscure film that was a box office dud and now you can't even get on Amazon instant video. Such a shame, it's the second best Thanksgiving movie there is next to another great film from John Hughes, Planes, Trains,& Automobiles.

Just so you know Kay, to prepare the actors for the fast-paced dialogue the filmmakers had the cast watch the 1940 Cary Grant classic comedy "His Girl Friday" where the dialogue is even faster-paced. I highly recommend you watch that one. It's actually in the Public Domain so you could watch it and upload the entire video.

Apparently there were three different cuts of the film when it played in theaters and depending on where/when you saw it you would get a different ending. Also on the DVD version you can set it to give you one of the three endings randomly. Or just show all three as was done here.

It wasn't till I'd seen this a few times that I decided to do a deep dive into old black and white murder mysteries from Hollywood's golden age. "Ten Little Indians," a 1965 film based on an Agatha Christie story, appears to be the basis for the story in this one, as the game itself had no story. Several of its more serious moments are recreated here, and altered just enough to be funny, such as the confusion over who the host is, searching the house for the murderer, the "we'll go together" scene, and probably several that I missed. PS: 69th comment. Nice.

@@Greenwood4727 Oh, grow up. Back then gay people were desperate to keep their orientation secret. This left them vulnerable to blackmail, even if they were otherwise patriotic Americans. ... On the other hand, even though Communism was a national security threat, we had to put up with that idiot Joe McCarthy for several years. The problem was that before WW2, Stalin organized a powerful PR campaign to make the USSR seem like "just folks," which worked on a lot of people. Add to that their status as an ally during the war and the Soviet Union was well regarded for a while. The American public became aware of the Soviet threat in the late 40s, and in an excess of over-reaction thought anyone who belonged to a leftist-sympathizing was a closet Commie. Most of them were just idealistic & naive enough to take the pre-war & war PR at face value.

Here's a weird story about Leslie Anne Warren (Miss Scarlett): She was a well-known Broadway actress and singer, and for a while was considered for the part of Lois Lane in _Superman_ (1978). Anticipating that they'd have a singer in the cast, they asked Maestro John Williams to compose a piece that could be sung. They ultimately cast Margot Kidder, who couldn't sing a note, but by that time the initial score was well underway. As a consequence, in the flying sequence, Kidder spoke the lyrics as an inner dialogue. It doesn't work very well. I've seen fan edits that replace the sequence with the purely instrumental version. It works very well. _Superman_ is one of my favorite films, and for the life of me, I can't understand the choice to go with the inner monologue version.

You might want to check out three other 'Comedy-crossovers': Murder By Death Oscar The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight The 1st is a Comedy-Mystery like _"Clue"_ but you'll likely have a problem posting a reaction to it, as the cast of characters (representing a variety of popular fictional detectives) is the source of the comedy-lines, by way of having the various accents and cultural stereotypes 'hyped-up'. For instance, Detective Charlie Chan's accent is layered-on *very* thickly, so others are constantly either mistaking what he's saying or asking him to repeat what he just said. Or having old Mrs. Marple behaving like a super-stereotype of an old lady. It actually all works comedically, as it's done (in most cases) so 'naturally' that you don't realize for a second or two what just happened, and a lot of the time either other characters jump on (metaphorically) the offender or the person immediately offers up an embarrassed apology. _"Oscar"_ and _"The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight"_ are Comedy-Mafia/Crime movies. In _"Oscar"_ Sylvester Stallone does an impressive job of portraying a 'Mafia don' who is trying to 'go straight' - not very successfully - while also managing to put on a seriously good job delivering some eye-watering comedy! In TGTCSS they managed to combine some side-splitting slapstick comedy with a Mafia/Crime drama ... and boy does it work! My personal favorite of them is _"Oscar"_ ... at least partially because you don't expect a 'Master Of Comedy' level of performance from Stallone - but that's what you get! His delivery, his timing ... a couple times just his blank stare! ... he does it all so well, there are times I have to pause the movie until I can get my laughter/giggles under control enough so that I can focus on the screen again! *Enjoy!*

Hello Kay,personally Im not so much into series and cartoons,and things like that,but I do hope you can do more reactions on marx brothers movies, clips like that,and movies in general too,not the least comedies,as you seems to have a great sense of humour..and it comes across in the reactions...

A great movie, a total throwback to the screwball comedies of the 1930s/40s.

If you liked this you should watch Edgar Allan Poe's Murder Mystery Invite-Only Casual Dinner Party/Gala for Friends Potluck (searchable as "Poe Party"). It uses a lot of elements from this movie but is a short web-series here on youtube by Shipwreck Comedy. (The cast also had a Clue script reading in a livestream once and that was a fucking HOOT)

If you like films with humour in then you should check out Big Trouble in Little China, quite possibly the greatest slice of 80's awesomeness! :D

What are you doing up so late? It's almost four AM here...which means it's...okay...earlier there. But it's still late! (Did you watch Elvis movies before you got around to uploading ;) I'll have to watch this, your latest reaction after I've had some sleep! So "I'll be back" (Quoting an Elvis song from the movie SPINOUT...NOT quoting your former governor.)

If you liked this one I definitely recommend "Oscar" with Sylvester Stallone. Great underrated comedy. Also recommend "fatal instinct".
