Fun fact. Sasha and her friends are nods to the bratz dolls. Not only do they all resemble the dolls but Sasha’s nickname that her mom calls her is the same as the doll.

That´s exactly what I thought when I saw her for the first time! Mattel probably wanted to make fun of the Bratz since some people say "the Bratz killed Barbie" in the 2000´s but they couldn´t because they didn´t own the Bratz dolls, I think they belong to Hasbro

That’s what I was thinking too the only thing that confused me is why give the Hispanic/Latina girl the name Sasha who in the bratz she is black and even tho they didn’t say the other girl name I bet her name was Yasmin when she’s clearly black or at least biracial

"Shining" is not a Gen Z thing. It means to communicate with someone telepathically. The term comes from the book called The Shining, written by Stephen King. Later made into a movie starring Jack Nicholson and later later made I to a TV mini series starring Steven Weber.

If you're a man's wife, you're supposed to cook for him and clean up after him like his mother, but not nag him like his mother. As a guy I've never understood the boys will be boys thing. It pisses me off. They're only boys because you keep letting them be boys. My uncle cooked all the meals in their house. I do about 95% of the cooking in mine. I liked the message for Ken in this a lot... it's okay to be whoever you actually are, you don't have to live up to some image or idea of what a "man" is.

Listen, 2005 Pride and Prejudice is a good film, but BBC 1995 version is 100% the one you put on for comfort when you're depressed (I should know I was depressed when I went to go see Barbie and had just finished re-watching it for the billionth time) I've never been so personally attacked and, judging by the audible gasps in the theater, I was not alone. It was incredible. Greta Gerwig really gets it.

“shining” isn’t new slang, its a reference to the kind of telepathic communication in Stephen King’s The Shining That split screen between FBI and Matel was absolutely satisfying. I also love how that scene makes the fbi cubicals warm and colorful and lived in…meanwhile Matel cubicals are grey and cold and unwelcoming outside of the BoardRoom

Uh, no, this movie is really confused because it tries to be a satire and a drama at the same time and it just doesn´t work, and so that makes it difficult to believe it means what it says; like, surely, it MUST be satire, right? Well, there are a few parts that are, clearly, but then other parts are shown with a straight face and no comedic element that are just as absurd. This is the problem with making satire when your own grasp of reality is limited--Gerwig tried to step outside of her ideological box to make a point, but stumbled BECAUSE of her ideological blinders.

Honestly, I want to see I'm Just Ken up for best song. Because that absolutely slapped and they all killed it. I knew this was going to be good when they refused to tell us what the hell it even was. And I was not disappointed. This was a genius of a film. I wasn't expecting the message for Ken, or his takeover attempt because Barbie wouldn't notice him. There is no just Ken is a major line. That was a cool message to see too, you don't have to prove anything to anyone either guys... just be you, whoever that is. And the deprogramming message where women have to be both sides of every coin in exactly the right balance. Will Farrel... I had no idea he was in this until he showed up and he was so damn good at that role. Alan... Alan. Just a freaking absolutely stacked cast, great soundtrack, incredible sets, well written. We need more movies like this.

The weird Barbie is always in the splits because we saw the kid put the doll in the splits, and throw her in a box. She likely forgot about the doll (as kids tend to do), so the splits is her resting state.. or her “Andy’s coming” if you will. Did you notice when they’re traveling to our world, Barbie started out leading Ken yet the moment they got here, he was in the lead because men typically rule. ALSO! Barbieland is the shape of the heart. Just like Mattel’s table where they think of Barbie ideas. OH! Also also! I just had a thought while rewatching! Will Ferrel’s character… he’s the only Mattel worker wearing pink. Barbie’s, Ken’s, and Allen always find a way to put pink in their clothes. Is he an escaped Ken or Allen?! He was the only person who knew how to get to Barbieland?! Allen made a point that it had happened before. He’s the only Allen left!

"Shining" is not a Gen Z Term, it's a reference to Stephen King's novel The Shining, where a select few characters can communicate telepathically to call someone somewhere. The power is called "the shining". (Kind of funny you stumbled over this right after mentioning It 😂)

I love, love, LOVED this movie, it was so much fun, but still had some really pure moments as well, and who doesn't love Ken! He stole the show, first thing I did was order a "I am Kenough" tshirt. I walked away feeling like this was a movie about equality, men being treated badly or as less than in the barbie world, while women are treated as less than in the real world. Love that you did this movie

I liked that. I watched piers Morgan complain about how the Ken's were treated and tried to say it was hypocritical because if he'd made a movie portraying women that way, he'd get roasted. Well, first, that just describes 90% of all movies for decades and Second, it's a movie about dolls. Real Mattell isn't set up as all male management either.

@birdsinparadise3113 exactly, it was exaggerated to help drive the point home. The Ken's didn't like how they were being treated in Barbie land just like women don't like how they're treated in the real world, but it's not quite as bad as the movie makes it seem. It could always be better though.

This movie is surprisingly pretty good. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s acting were both great in this. Although, if it wasn’t for the Barbenheimer trend, I would like this movie more.
