The big difference between Pitch & Jack is Jack wants to be seen; Pitch only cares to be seen because he wants to be feared. Which is why it makes so much sense that a guardian whose center is fun is what it takes to help defeat him.
@js6661311 ай бұрын
No, he wants to be seen too, he hates being invisible and makes that very clear. He wants to be feared because he can't be respected in the same way that the spirits with the nice and fluffy feel-good type centres can be easily, so he went for fear instead -- plus, he lives off of it. It gives him power and, the way the movie makes it seem, it seems to me he can't even be seen /without/ being feared, so he doesn't even have a choice in that. And before you say anything, for some reason, Jamie, who at that point still supposedly believes in Pitch, walks through Pitch having stopped being afraid of him, which is why I made that observation. So, unless it was a movie making error - which makes sense because the movie is riddled with errors -, Pitch has been royally screwed over by the universe and had no actual choice in the matter.
@lulolie10 ай бұрын
@js66613 It seems like they get their centers after they decide who they are though. Dark doesn't have to equal fear, his center could have been comfort. The dark of a warren of rabbits cuddling for protection, the dark of a rainy day and dimmed lights, reading a book you've been putting off, the dark of cuddling under the blankets and knowing tomorrow is the start of a threeday weekend. Jack was misunderstood and potentially destructive too, but it didn't stop hin from having morality and a "feel-good" type center.
@laurabrewes142210 ай бұрын
@lulolie Dark doesn't have to equal fear, but fear is what Pitch wanted. At the end, after he was defeated, he specifically says "You will fear me!" He WANTS the fear. It's the reason he wants to be seen.

The Santa depicted here was a former Russian bandit before he became Santa Claus. No doubt his poor sister lived with survivor's guilt for the rest of her life. Jack may still have relatives out there, even though it's been 300 years. The books are written by the incredible William Joyce. He even wrote a picture book called The Man In The Moon. It's VERY beautifully illustrated. The dedication at the end, for Mary Katherine Joyce is William's daughter. She passed away when she was 18 from a brain tumor.

I had the book series, it was a really fun read when I was a kid. The author was on fire with all of his stories (William Joyce, also illustrated his own books). First he writes 'A Day With Wilbur Robinson' which then gets turned into the 'Meet the Robinsons' movie. Next his 'The Leafmen And The Brave Good Bugs' gets turned into the 'Epic' movie with flipping Beyonce and Colin Farrell. Then his 'The Guardians Of Childhood' series turns into 'Rise of the Guardians'. If that isn't enough, he did the concept art for the first 'Toy Story', helped work on 'A Bugs Life' and 'Robots'. And of course he's also the creator and producer of the kids tv show 'Rolie Polie Olie'. This man gets around.

And it’s multifunction since it works for both Christmas and Easter (even if my instincts immediately think Christmas) 🎅🏻🎄🎁🐣🐇🍫💝 I was so shocked to hear this movie flopped because the animation was beautiful, the voice actors killed it, the story development and character growth is there, the message and lessons in this is so heartwarming, every single joke lands, the bromance between Jack and Bunny is top tier friendship, etc. They easily could have made this a trilogy, have prequels, or even a tv show with the amount of characters and MILLENNIUMS of history background knowledge on all the characters.

25:44 Yeah, if you read the books the movie was based on, Pitch’s backstory is actually pretty heartbreaking. However, I’m not sure if the filmmakers changed it or not for the film. They keep it vague enough, so I think it’s up for interpretation. 🤷🏻 *--spoilers for the book series--* In the books (from what I can remember), before he became Pitch Black: The Nightmare King, he used to be Kozmotis Pitchiner, a great and honorable hero, and a loving father. He fought in the cosmic war against the Fearlings (evil spectral nightmare creatures that feed on fear). Once the Fearlings were imprisoned, Kozmotis volunteered to guard their prison, to make sure they wouldn’t escape ever again. He guarded them for years, being slowly worn down mentally by their constant whispering. He kept a photo of his daughter on him, to remind himself of why he was doing this, but that gave the Fearlings a weakness to exploit. One day, the Fearlings tricked Kozmotis, making him believe that his daughter was trapped in the prison with the Fearlings. He hurriedly opened the door, and was subsequently possessed by thousands upon thousands of Fearlings, twisting and corrupting his soul and transforming him into The Nightmare King. He then became a monster and committed horrific atrocities, including destroying the home planets of both the Man in the Moon (aka Tsar Lunar XII , or MiM) and the Easter Bunny (aka E. Aster Bunnymund). He was eventually defeated and weakened, but he still posed a significant threat whenever he would turn up again in the stories.

i LOVE this movie. literally top tier story, animation, dialogue, literally everything. btw it's based on a middle grade book series The Guardians of Childhood, each book going into the backstory of each guardian before they became guardians. Santa was a misfit thief that stole things and fought things with his double swords, but has a heart for children and learned to see the wonder in the world through their eyes. it's no wonder he believed in Jack Frost from the beginning, be probably empathized with his troublemaking attitude. also! during the height of the RotG fandom, there was a theory that Jamie and Sophie are descendants of Jack's little sister, due to the similar facial features.

Fun fact: In the books the movie was adapted from, Santa used to be a human bandit king! He stumbled upon the magical village of Santoff Claussin and became an immortal wizard. Oh, and the Man in the Moon is a celestial prince and Pitch Black was once his respected General until he was deceived and consumed by the Fearlings whose prison he was guarding. Ironically, they used the same voice lure that he used on Jack to make him think his daughter was trapped with them.

I LOVE this movie so much and totally agree it is so underrated!! I’ve made so many of my friends watch this lol I have it on dvd and do watch it every year. Sometimes a couple times even cos you can definitely use this as a winter and spring movie imo. I love the message and design of the characters. I’m so glad you watched and enjoyed this one!!❤

Rumor has it that jack frost is related to Jamie by his surviving sibling so he's Jamie's 8 x great uncle.

Went to the theater and it's a once a yearer for me ❤❤❤ Still hoping they do a sequel one day. Honestly...Dreamworks puts out consistently great animation with out there concepts and I love them for that. Like yeah this is based of a book series, but DreamWorks commits to the quality and concepts

Never been ice skating- I have really bad balance when things are slippery- have to be really careful in the winter and even just the rain. Slipping over and dislocating something happens, so figured for the best just to never do it! Love watching people on the ice, though 😊
