Those nice, not-necessarily-romantic compliments actually work really well irl if well-timed. You just instantly like a person more when they mention something nice about you, even if you barely know them! A boy once asked me out simply because I said that he has very pretty eyes a week earlier haha It also can be platonic; my favourite aunt is the one that compliments me at every family reunion etc. I try to do that kind of thing too even if I'm shy. All the scenes where it's supposed to show off how big he is in the north pole is just some clever camera work. When it look like he's sitting next to everyone, he's actually sitting close to the wall, and the set was made just so that when the camera faces it a certain way, it looks like it does.

I agree. It has a 7.0 rating on IMDB and that is about right. Fun Fact: On the final day of shooting in New York City, it was just director Jon Favreau, Will Ferrell, and a camera man driving around the city looking for locations to shoot. They would jump out and ask pedestrians if they would be willing to be extras for some quick cash, while Ferrell paraded around acting like Buddy. Much of the montage when Buddy first arrives in New York City was filmed then, such as when he is getting his shoes shined, and jumping between traffic.

This is by far one of my Top 5 favorite Christmas movies next to Home Alone from it's story, humor, heart and the castings of Will Ferrell, James Cann, Zooey Deschanel, Bob Newhart, and the late Ed Asner. And to think that this film was what made Jon Favreau a household name as a Director and filmmaker before Iron Man, The Jungle Book and of course The Mandalorian. Even this was Ed Asner's 2nd time portraying Santa Claus after voicing him in _Olive, the Other Reindeer_ and for the 3rd time in the _Regular Show_ Christmas special.

In 2019, I watched this movie twice (once for a movie night, and second time with friends), and on Christmas Day, my aunt considered "Elf" as a movie option, and I said, "No! I am not watching this movie again this season!" It's one of those movies that you can only handle that kind of humor so often. I think its cute when he acts like a kid and being raised by elf's it's understandable. I actually never seen this movie but I will like to watch it this month in real life there are adults who have the mind of a child/disabled etc. like me I can be mature but I'm also childish and that is not gonna change,cause I'm disabled I don't always understand eveyrthing and I really hate it when people say '' your an adult act like it'' when just because your an adult doesn't always mean you are able to act like one and its not easy for for them to take care of them selve. it is a struggle, I'm on the autism spectrum i'm not much high functiong or low functioning i'm in between, I can't always do things on my own or understand certain things I try to fit in and mask how i feel and try to be normal when I don't feel that way but always felt different. Having anxiety of the outside world,loud noises etc.

Everyone always wanted to watch this movie in every lesson as Christmas approached in school, so I’ve grown to resent this movie despite it not being bad at all, it’s just repeated exposure to it has me annoyed. 😂

I love Elf. I didn’t remotely grow up with it, but you can tell it was inspired by a lot of the old Christmas movies that I did grow up with. My favorite new Christmas movie is Klaus. It’s just outstanding. I’d love Polar Express if someone would go in and fix all the people in it. They’re just so disturbing. And there was a new one last year called Jingle Jangle that I wanted to like, but the story wasn’t good enough to support the great cast and costumes. I’d be down for the music, even, if it had a good story. But like so many musicals, they picked the cheapest, weakest story and figured the music would hide that. He main hype was the primarily black cast. Really wish they’d tossed a little money at a good writer so that the landmark “Christmas movie with black reprsentation” everyone was talking about could have represented well.
