I saw it yesterday. Of course, there was no AC in the theater but somehow the air got turned on at the end. I’m still processing everything from that movie. My heart goes out to the agents that have to deal with that every day and have to see that. At a loss for words about what goes on with those kids. God’s children are not for sale.

Even the people at Angel (the movie's production company) publicly thanked the CEO of AMC for NOT shutting down, or otherwise disrupting, the screenings of their movie. One mention of a potential conspiracy, and suddenly certain people see the damn thing everywhere, when it's quite a typical occurrence that a movie theater has outdated or broken equipment. It happens all the time, but people don't usually focus on it so much, nor did they used to TikTok about it, because social media didn't always exist. And movie theaters are on the way out as it is because home theaters are becoming more convenient and inexpensive, so like Family Video and Blockbuster, they are beginning to crumble. Humans are silly creatures..

I believe it is true with a little creative license, but I think it's only the tip of the iceberg. People shouldn't rely on it to inform themselves, they should let this be a catalyst to ask how we can help. You can't change something you're not aware of, and this effectively raises awareness. But it's also a good movie, in the same way Taken is.

However, both he and the actor who portrayed him, Caviezel, have repeatedly and publicly admitted to being supporters of QAnon, as well as the long-debunked and themselves harmful Pizzagate and Wayfair conspiracy theories surrounding child trafficking. These sensationalized portrayals of child and human trafficking are not the informative, awareness-raising heroes that many people perceive them to be. Child trafficking is typically a much more insidious and gradual process than media portrayals, like this movie, suggest. The notion that it begins with a sudden kidnapping detracts from the reality that it's far more common for gradual coercion and manipulation to be used to ensnare people into these horrific situations. If everyone simply accepted this movie as factual (which it isn't - the protagonist didn't actually rescue the girl, nor did he shoot the villain; she escaped on her own and shared her story with him), people might be more vigilant about preventing their children from being kidnapped. However, in the process, they could easily overlook the subtle signs of grooming that might be coming from individuals within their own community, that leads to both trafficking and sexual abuse before they realize it. It's a distraction, perhaps unintentional, possibly driven by financial gain and a misguided sense of heroism, but a distraction from the truth nonetheless. A new paradigm has emerged from the old "sex sells" marketing trope: fear sells, now more than ever. And, unfortunately, critical thinking and skepticism are increasingly being viewed as undesirable traits. I digress. This movie is not a documentary (not that documentaries are inherently factual in the first place). The phrase "based on a true story" is being used more loosely than ever. Trafficking is a very real issue, but its portrayal in this movie misdirects our focus on preventing it. I'm fine with it just being a movie, although I just see it as a horror film with a 'happy' ending, but the masses accepting it as anything close to the reality of the issue seems incredibly unreasonable, and dangerous. What do you think?

Also, it's telling that mainstream media outlets are slamming this as some right wing film is just mind boggling. CNN is one particular entity that should be ashamed. I haven't seen the movie so I can't comment on it, although I have seen even some non-religious film critics give it good marks for being a well-made film. There are several reasons for the controversy around the film I think. One, there's some sketchiness around the guy it's based on, Tim Ballard, and his organization. Various independent journalists have had trouble verifying his claimed background at DHS, but to be fair that could be a matter of someone's government work being classified, I can't say. Others have criticized him as embellishing the activities and achievements of his organization. There are some reports about his being investigated for financial improprieties around his organization but as yet no charges have been filed and I don't think there are open investigations against him. The biggest issue I have with Ballard and others who made this film (including Caviezel) are their flirtation with, or outright boosterism of some really weird, dark, insane conspiracy theories, some related to QAnon. I mean there's no need for any further explanation about why kids are getting trafficked - there are lots of creeps out there who want slaves, either for sweatshops or for prostitution. That explanation is sufficient to explain this evil. But there are people making a lot of money and drawing a lot of attention to themselves by pushing wild, totally unsubstantiated claims about Satanic cults harvesting children's organs to make "adrenochrome" to prolong their lives. Absolute lunacy. These claims echo older anti-Semitic smears, as well as feed off of (and into) the current moral panic taking hold in America, where people think their children are being targeted by drag queens who want to, I don't know, turn kids into drag queens too I guess, they're never very clear on it. I can't imagine this being in the movie at all, but I do think it's part of the general cultural context where concerned parents see evil demonic conspiracies all around them lusting after their kids. Investment into more investigations and prosecutions of criminals targeting children is a great thing, but it should be done by qualified government agents who are accountable to the DOJ and the public, and not private charities without government oversight with links to far-right religious fundamentalists who have their own long and sordid history with hurting children and who maybe have an incentive to turn people's attention elsewhere on this subject. Just my two (possibly three) cents.

I see you've just regurgitated everything the mainstream media is saying about Tim and Jim. That's really easy to do however, Tim has never been a part of Qanon and the "Satanic sacrifices" that come from QAnon come from others in that forum that mention Tim and others but have no evidence. Adrenacrome is a legitimate drug that is made and is easily shown in a simple Google search. Its not controversial. This has been talked about for decades. Dateline, 60 minutes, CNN, pretty much every investigative publication has done things on trafficking. But nothing gets done about it. This movie will make the rounds around the internet, like they all do, and as soon as its no longer interesting content for all of you people to get views on, it will disappear into obscurity just like everything else until the next one gets made. I give it a couple weeks. Thats usually about how long it takes for these pointless videos that do and say nothing to stop trending.
