The medal is a purple heart You don't have to die to get one you get one for getting seriously injured during combat like getting shot for example so presumably blark could have been injured while in combat so blark probably got a purple heart from getting injured in combat Also yes blark himself has mentioned being in Vietnam so he was likely injured during the war

Is getting wounded the only requirement? Meaning they can be awarded to pretty much anyone? I was under the impression that the purple heart was awarded to particularly stellar soldiers who perform exceptionally well or who routinely go above and beyond the call of duty, who then get injured (or killed) out in the field.

@@marksamson4173 Nope, the requirement is that you get wounded by the enemy while engaged in combat. So if one of your own guys wounded you, you would not receive the medal. But it has nothing to do with being exceptional, its to reward you for the physical punishment and give you a pat on the back while in hospital. Though this also includes being killed, so anyone killed by the enemy in combat will also receive the purple heart.

That's the Purple Heart medal. It's awarded to those who have been wounded or killed in combat by the enemy. It's basically a symbol of one's quite literal bloodshed. That said, it does have some weird history and changes over the years to how it was awarded. I think there was a certain time where those wounded/killed via friendly fire recieved it (someone who knows the history can reply to this comment), but typically, it's by the enemy. One interesting fact is that individuals recieve a Purple Heart medal for each of their wounds, again, assuming it was in combat and caused by the enemy. I think the record of most Purple Heart medals recieved by an individual is 10 or something. Editorial note: yeah, I paused the video too soon to see the research has already been done. Still, I did add a couple details for those who are interested.

Hey, just wanted to say that after a closer look, the medal on Blark's wall over his headboard, is a purple heart. It's a military medal that signifies being wounded in the line of duty, this generally only applies to combat MOSs but under special circumstances its awarded to others who may see combat unintentionally, like a logistics company, or truckers who may be a target for enemy forces.

Purple Heart normally does mean that. But it can also mean that you went up and beyond nearly dying to protect your brother and sisters in arms. My father was recommended to get a Purple Heart because he nearly died when his squad got ambushed. He saved his squad, killed the group that ambushed them but was found bleeding out and nearly lost his life. The only reason why he never got his Purple Heart was because his superior refused to do the paperwork. Reason was because if he did, the report would have included that the ambush happened in an area that the US military was not supposed to go into and that my father told him that it was not a good idea.
