RE: “What do you do though?” Although anyone working in law will tell you, Suits isn’t that realistic. However, one thing that is somewhat right about the show is firm hierarchy. At the majority of firms, associates and junior associates (with quite a bit of assistance from paralegals and senior paralegals) do most if not all the grunt work on behalf of their senior associates or superiors (e.g. partners, senior partners, managing director etc.) at the firm. The latter’s name is often on that work, so people like Harvey are meant to check over, review, and assess for mistakes because it’ll be under his name and not Mike’s. It’s also supposed to be a good mentorship exercise, as he has to teach Mike on the go. Sometimes it doesn’t always seem fair but that’s a matter of perspective; sure, Mike does a lot of the grunt work for someone else’s benefit and reputation, but if he screws up however, it’s Harvey’s head on the chopping block most of the time. That said, no firm is going to let a rookie go to client meetings unsupervised lol. There is a very strict training period that goes on in real life with long hours and commitment on both sides before associates are allowed that level of independence. The business model works like this is because seniors, typically partners (or senior partners depending on firm size) work on totally different things. They deal with getting new clients and maintaining retainer clients, maximising profits, managing the firm’s public branding and image etc while also managing and overseeing client work (which is delegated down the chain of command) and making sure it gets done. Louis’ character and rank is a good example (in the idea that he manages the bullpen of associates and oversees their training). Hope that helps!

@14:43 hahaha I worked in the Harvard Law graduate office as a temporary administrative office assistant... it's NOTHING like this... Much more lowkey office spaces (small and plain with fluorescent lighting). The overall vibe of the atmosphere there WAS this harsh, cold, disconnected, rigid/restrictive, isolated and generally unhappy though😅. I'm glad they ended my position early because it led to my permanent position in the Sociology Department (which checks all my boxes including being hybrid remote, flexible hours, manageable work load, in social sciences, educational opportunities, and a supportive cultural environment.). Much more warmth in my new office environment!

Travis, the character of rachel zane, you recognised her. She is married into the british royal family but she is NOT a princess and ever since she married into the family she not been kind to her in laws and has all her royal titles stripped away, her husband has also had most of his titles stripped away by his grandmother the queen. RIP Queen Elizabeth 2nd.
