It may be a bit of a stereotype because he's an inventor, but as an autistic person myself I find that Snork from Moominvalley (2019) is a pretty good representation! My partner, who's also autistic, sees himself in the character a lot as well. He doesn't feel comfortable with touch, or too much noise, he's a literal thinker, is pretty honest and he feels comfortable in his own solitude. There's also a scene that portrays overstimulation pretty well! He's got a whole episode dedicated to him called "Inventor Snork" which I like a lot, where the main character learns to respect him as who he is. I personally recommend it; it's a pretty good series in general, and very wholesome. I know of another character from the same series named Snufkin, who I find to be a very good representation of a (coded) autistic character with social anxiety. Also having some episodes dedicated to him, as well. Like "Snufkin and the Fairground". (My favorite episode).

I think Gordita from Primos is a good example. The episode Summer of Cuadros shows off her autism in a really inspiring way with her learning to understand the true meaning of art in her own way. I highly recommend it.

I gotta be honest, she's really disappointing rep. Other than 2 occurrences, you can kinda just forget she has autism cause she serves the purpose of being extremely smart, which I consider a bad depiction because it just perpetuates that every autistic person is a genius and not someone with their own way of working. Basically, genius autism is overdone and stereotyped by Hollywood, and it's worse that she hardly ever gets used so you can kinda just forget she's autistic

She suffers from being chronically offscreen, but they still did a great job with every little scene she’s in. There’s some very subtle details they got right. But the best part is that everyone accepts her for who she is, she’s not treated like a burden, and she’s not a savant either.

I felt like she really resonated with me and I guess I know why now. When I watched her first appearance in the new show I cried. I want to add some stuff about Twyla- In one of the background clips you used, her talking to Lagoona (the sea monster character), she's talking about overstimulation and stimming. I think her exact line is "when things are too much for me, I twist my bracelet, and it helps me calm down." Also, her voice actress is Kayla Cromer, who is Autistic as well. And her character song, Out Of The Shadows, was performed by an Autistic nonbinary musician, Tangina Stone.

I don't know anything about Monster High, but I've heard of Kayla Cromer. I didn't watch it much, but she used to be on a show entitled, Everything's Gonna Be O.K. More recently, she played Charlie, a med student with Autism, on The Good Doctor. But I didn't know that she also did voice over work. That's awesome! 😀

He not only puffs out the steam headphones but he also flaps his ladders when he gets excited or anxious or upset (like how some autistic people flap their hands, I know I do that a lot), and he has a special interest in not just schedules and time tables, but also humans, which I think is cute and clever since for a lot of autistic people, it's trains that are the special interest (DEFINITELY was for me as a kid and even now I still watch Thomas every now and then because the introduction of Bruno got me back into it), but for a brake car which is part of a train, it's humans. I love Bruno, I relate to him so much. I'm so happy my childhood special interest, Thomas the Tank Engine, now has a character I can really see myself in.

Bruno's Blustery Day All three of these episodes focus on Bruno and you can see the autistic traits I mentioned in my other comment on full display, as well as his friendship with the others. Also something you'll definitely notice in the US version is he speaks with the "autistic accent" and that's not even being put on by the VA, that's his normal voice! I'm so glad they got an autistic kid to voice him!

Bruno is also voiced by an actually autistic kid in the US/Canada version as well! Really shows the effort they put into it, along with bringing on actually autistic writers to write and develop Bruno's character and actually autistic advocates with ASAN. I love how the other characters don't look down on or make fun of Bruno, they accept him for who he is and help him out when he needs it, and he helps them out when they need it too, because that's what friends do. When I learned about Bruno I was so giddy and excited that there was finally a character in my favorite childhood show that I could relate to, and boy, do I ever! I see so much of myself in Bruno it's insane, and I absolutely love it. 😌👍

Usually, I’m not a fan of the “X is ‘different’, so X must be autistic” breed of theorizing, but recently I rewatched The Muppets 2011 movie. Walter being a puppet in a human world is portrayed as something of a disability, but leads to him becoming hyperfixated on the Muppets, as they showed him it was ok to be childlike. His brother Gary becomes his caretaker in adulthood, much to the chagrin of Gary’s girlfriend Mary. Hell, his human form in the “Man or Muppet?” song is literally Jim Parsons. I don’t know if I’m properly putting it into words, I hope my point stands. Even before I realized that, I’m forever bitter they introduced one of the best “legacy” characters in a franchise reboot, then barely did anything with him afterwards. :,/

It's relieving to me that autistic characters are given a sense of autonomy and aren't just walking meltdowns OR supergeniuses. There's real nuance to them and how they're written. Sometimes we all have those awkward moments, but I don't want to be treated like I'm made of glass or completely foreign or anything. I'm glad none of these examples forgot that part, yknow? For me personally, it's not a disability. I don't care if it's classified as one, because the way it affects me doesn't make me unable to do day-to-day stuff, and I really don't want to be pitied. It's what makes variety in these characters so fascinating

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but Entrapta from She-Ra is incredibly autistic coded! Her hyperfixation over robots and tech, and her struggles socially with interacting with people rather than machines, often missing social cues. I vividly remember a scene in an episode where another character was clearly upset and she just continued talking about her tech like nothing was wrong, causes other characters to finally snap at her. She literally said "Are you all, mad at me?" After the others expressing disbelief that she was only just now figuring that out, she said "I'm not good at people, but I am good at tech. I thought maybe if I could use tech to help you you'd like me." She's such a fantastic character and I love her!

I love Twyla from the G3 Monster High show. She's voiced by an actual autistic person, Kayla Cromer. She represents Hyperacausis (sensitivity to sound), is shown stimming with her bracelet, Asking for accommodations like noise cancelling headphones at the school dance. We see her face extreme stress in one of the episodes that overstimulates her and sends her into a shutdown. And one of her dolls come with earplugs plus all her dolls have cobwebs in their ears

Autistic coding I wasn't expecting was Ortega from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. He's passionate about Fairy-type Pokemon and machinery to the point of making Pokemon-powered cars for him and his friends. He avoids unfamiliar people if he can help it, gets frustrated easily, speaks bluntly and has trouble understanding people. Part of the DLC has you help him understand dialogue from a short story he's reading for class. When I saw that part I literally said out loud, "Oh, you're autistic!" lol I also second the Extraordinary Attorney Woo recommendation. It does rely on tired tropes a couple times but it's overall pretty good.

I LOVE this version of monster high! Just for the simple fact that none of the main girls r their original stereotypical skinny tall selves. I haven’t been able to watch more than the first few episodes because I don’t have Nickelodeon so I didn’t know they had an autistic character! That makes the show even better!

One small correction since Monster High is a special interest of mine: while the original webisodes and doll line came out in 2010 the show that you watched is more recent! This is the third generation of Monster High, and while fans are definitely divided on the new series, most people agree that Twyla is good representation. I also feel that it fits with her character in the original series :)

I personally am upset that Clawdeen is a tomboy now instead of a diva, and that they got rid of Draculaura's accent. I don't mind changing Lagoona though since she was the least interesting of the cast in G1. I'm also sad that Ghoulia doesn't seem to appear very often in G3! Ghoulia had such a great personality in the original show - which is a feat, because she only spoke Zombie.

Another show that I personally recommend is a sweet little BBC show called A Kind of Spark. It's based on a novel written by an autistic author, most if not all of the cast and crew are neurodivergent, and it follows an autistic girl named Addie who becomes hyperfixated with a witch trial that happened in her home town, which may have involved another autistic girl.

One of my favorite autistic-coded characters is Tomori from Bang Dream: It's MyGO! They never outright say she's autistic, but she's often non-verbal, enjoys collecting small items, has trouble communicating her thoughts, and feels outcast because she processes her emotions differently than her peers. I highly recommend checking the anime out, especially the 3rd episode, which is shot from Tomori's perspective.

on the topic of monster high i think the gen 1 character ghoulia yelps really works as my particular form of autism. she's really smart , loves comics and is an artist as well. but because she's a zombie she cant get her thoughts out to most people except her closest friends. the cartoon shows how a manipulative person might over step an autistic persons friendship . I've compared my autism to having a scratched hard drive or a super computer on a 15k dial up modem, the knowledge is there getting it out so others can understand it requires some work.

It's nice to see someone finally be positive about the new Monster High G3 show for a change. I've seen many people bash it and say how it got "ruined" with their main arguement being the characters looking/being different than how they were (Draculaura is chubbier, Frankie is now canonically non-binary with they/them pronouns, Lagoona's skin is pink and not blue like how it used to...) when in reality: I think they all forgot what this show REALLY is about 💀 It's not a dress-to-impress core show where every character needs to be white, skinny and typically "pretty" and where everything that matters is the aesthetic. It's a wholesome cartoon which was meant to teach it's young audience about how everyone is different and how it's okay to be unique, and it STILL does that! As someone who grew up with G1, I LOVE G3 and I love Twyla! (although my favorite character is Frankie, lol) There's a possibility I'm autistic myself (I've done a lot of research and noticed how I share a lot of traits, however I don't want to say I'm self-diagnosed, because I know how that may sound to most people. I'm looking forward to getting an actual medical dianosis in the future tho!) and honestly I love and adore how they represented autism in the new show through Twyla. She's adorable, I love her and I relate to her a lot (mostly bc I'm also super sensitive to loud sounds and tend to get triggered when I hear a specific noise that bothers me)

I love Carl so much. I think he's adorable. There's another episode he's in where he really reminds me of my sister. We're both on the spectrum fyi. George is putting on a show and during rehearsals Carl has to leave because of his schedule. But Carl still comes through at the end and the show goes perfectly. I really like it because it shows while autistic people like to stick to schedules, they are still loyal and reliable. I also feel George himself is autistic, just never diagnosed. While Carl reminds me of my sister, I resonate more with George. I even have a plush I interact with similar to how George interacts with his puppet. P.S. Although never stated in the show, the creator of The Owl House has stated that Luz is neurodivergent. I think she has AuDHD like me. Also Tim Burton considers himself autistic and that explains a lot of his characters and movies.

if you do a part 2 and never got this one, i think donnie from rottmnt is a really good autism rep from a kids show, i like that he's never treated different narratively (gets around the same plot relevance as the rest of his brothers) and has some really good angst not just with his autistic traits but also with his neglect from his father. (i would like to mention donnie being autistic is never stated in show it was confirmed on twitter but he was written to be autistic by the writers) honestly i could go on about how the deal with his sensory issues like one of his big conflicts in the movie is dealing with his sensory issues and he also seen drinking super plain drinks and having what seems like sensory seeking audio sensory, which is one of the first times in cartoon media i've seen sensory seeking even somewhat displayed. i could still go on, i'd recommend if interested to watch the show or at least watch the movie and maybe a few donnie focused episodes especially the witch town episode.

Tecna from Winx Club. There is a whole list of times she was autism coded: S1 E2 - Vallisto, known for it's rich artistic tradition. I love taking these things apart. S1 E3 - The learning curb is steep. S1 E5 - I'd say they're a bit impractical. There is a technical term for the way she's acting, crazy. Yes, that's a good Canis Carniverous, go away. S1 E6 - I memorized it. I'm still suprised she memerized the cafeteria menu for the rest of the school year. Then look for it, we have just over a minute. There's a significant risk factor involved should I calculate the exact number? S1 E7 - Maybe there is a manual online. If we had a manual for the labor. What's so funny? I wasn't joking. Broom is elongated to reach high places. It's 3 feet tall and gives off a fowl musky odor. S1 E9 - Hey, I like my clothes. Stella, please remember our goal is not to socialize. S1 E10 - Spontaneity is overrated, advanced planning is a sign of respect. Be logical. What kind of advice is that? The only logical kind. S1 E11 - A systematic search is in order. It is a member of the emezygle family. Zitbugs live in cold climates. Although conflic occurs in 1 in 5 fredships, I'm sorry too. S1 E12 - It's illogical. As much as I dislike AEG and feel like it doesn’t represent Thomas well. I do give them credit for how they developed Bruno as a character and how well he is handled in the show. He feels like a character that could exist in the original show! Seeing all these different depictions of autistic or autism spectrum coded characters has been great in helping me develop my own character who is on the spectrum as well along with some of his friends. I’d also hate to be that guy, but Thomas techinally wasn’t a cartoon at first, it was mainly live action models with some minor stop motion. In 2010 it switched to CG, and stayed that way until 2022. Also, PBS didn’t produce the new Thomas series. It’s made by Mattel and Nelvana. PBS hasn’t aired Thomas in years, and it’s mainly been on and off on channels and streaming like Netflix and Cartoonito.

Would like it if they made a tv show where both Adults and kids as cartoons on how they handle everyday life and pointing out how stereotypes of having it can impact people views on that person and how masking is very exhausting in order to fit in the everyone and be "normal".

I was just going off in the last video about Hazel from FOP A New Wish and how it’s so obvious that she’s autistic but the show runner (who, by the way, is her voice actress) doesn’t wanna actually confirm it. I'm not on the spectrum, but I do have some form of CPTSD, which has a lot of overlap in how it presents. Mainly for me, it's certain specific loud noises that really startle me or stress me out. I never got to have characters growing up that had that trait, and I think I would have liked to have them, even if our experiences aren't quite the same. Having characters like these in kids shows is going to help a lot of people express their needs better, and understand the needs of others.

Out of all the autistic characters I can relate to Carl the most because I take things too literally sometimes and I do find some puppets really creepy! Unlike Carl I find trains boring! I'm more into music. I can play the violin and the ukulele! I'm also a big Beatles fan!

It's not that big of an anime/manga but I recommend Clara Valac from Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun!! Specifically she gives very strong AuDHD traits and there is a whole thing prior to meeting the main character where everyone always saw her as "weird" and/or took advantage of her(her ability is to create pretty much anything ik that sounds OP). But despite this prior to meeting her current friends she was fully aware ppl looked down on her but looked the other way because she just wanted ppl to play with her. There's just smth about how she's so loud, bubbly, unique, and so herself that I love.

She has unique mannerisms and phases, takes things literally often to comedic effect at times, is straightforward, shown to not understand social cues at times, and on the complete opposite end of some autism reps she is very in tune with emotions. When my sister and I were kids, there wasn't much in the way of Autism representation. Well, we had the movie Rain Man, but that was really more for the adults. It's a beautiful story, though, starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, where Hoffman played a man on the Spectrum, and Cruise played his younger brother. It was an Oscar winner, too, so go check it out. But for Autism representation for kids, we didn't really have anything, except for the movie The Boy Who Could Fly. It's also a heartwarming story, about neurodiversity, where a very quiet boy, who possesses the ability to fly, hence the title, falls for a beautiful girl. These are live action, however, and were both from the 80s. In animation, we had nothing. Our generation of people on the Spectrum were pretty much underserved. More recently, though, someone online had suggested that Wakko Warner of the 90s cartoon, Animaniacs, might be Autistic. Even though he was only being quiet because he was based off of Harpo Marx, who was known mostly for physical comedy, Wakko was also very inventive, and mechanical, which is often typical for some people on the Spectrum. His limited speech could've also been due to Autism, though, plus he had trouble tying his shoes. I wish that for members of both mine and my sister's generation, that more attention had been paid to Autism. It's a very different world we're living in.

I would like to say that izuku midoriya from mha is autistic because his obsession with all might and how he writes down things and has a journal for heros and their abilities is also what i do when i have a favorite show character game etc!! I had no idea there was a new Thomas the Tank Engine cartoon!!! When I was little I was very into Thomas and the Polar Express because my dad was a HUGE lover of trains. I don’t think he was ever diagnosed as such, but he showed a lot of symptoms of autism in a grown man. Regardless, it’s lovely to hear that something else that I held so close in my childhood (the other being monster high!) now also gets an autistic character!! Additionally: what you said about it being harder for females to get diagnosed is sadly very true. As someone who’s AFAB, I didn’t even find *out* I was most likely autistic until I was 16. And that was from talking to various other friends who are autistic and finding out I exhibited numerous of the same symptoms and shared a lot of the same experiences!

I have a thing about loud noises too, unless its my rock music, which many say is contradicting, but to me, its just different.
