Iceland was iconic that year, I remember when they said that Icelandic act has changed Eurovision for ever, it was ahead of time and everyone was shocked. France was also my second favourite.

Dublin actually had a very fancy stage for its time! Compare it to the stages on either years and it did really stand out

UK, Italy, Russia, Turkey, Denmark, The Netherlands, Hungary and Poland (Iceland is also one of my guilty pleasures) were my favourites of this year but this year was so strong anyway that there weren’t any entries that I didn’t like

Brings back so many fond memories. I was on the Austrian (backup) jury that year. We got matching 1st (UK), 2nd (Ireland) and 5th (Estonia) as the televote result. The jury consisted of 20 members of which 10 were males, 10 females, 10 music professionals (journalists, singers, choreographers, producers..), 10 amateures, all age groups represented. Immediately after each performance we had each to give points from 1 to 10. The song with the highest number of total points was given the 12 points aso... My personal favourite was Slovenia. It was the last time the UK won and also the last time Ireland hosted an ESC. Would love it if you watch 1998 or 1999 next.

It's always very interesting to see how Eurovision has changed through the years, and I really enjoyed watching your reaction. I'd love to see more reactions to vintage Eurovision, especially the ones from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Didn't become a hardcore Eurovision fan until recently (4-5 years) so this "flashback" is actually the first time I'm seeing it. Enjoyed it thanks to your hilarious commentary and close-ups!

I really like your reaction and how you appreciate the different types of songs, the different languages and the different time, even if I wasn't born then. That's something what makes the elder Eurovision special in my opinion!

Countries should get an extra point for singing in their own language whenever they get points from a jury/country. 🤩

I remember mom and I both loved UKs entry that year, it was our favourite. I think I've only favourited one UK entry after that year. On the other hand I thought our entry that year was crap (I'm Norwegian), basically I felt the reasoning behind sending him wasn't because his song was good, but that he as an artist deserved to represent us at some point and it might as well be that year, lol.

13:12 That's what the flag after it's independence, but in 1999 ESC, the people have seen that the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina was changed (actually adopted in 1998 but Bosnia and Herzegovina withdrew in 1998).

Definitely do more of the 90s. This was the Eurovision I grew up with, and though I do find the more modern Eurovision more fun to watch, it's also fun to go back and recall the older kind, which had its own quircks, like when Bosnia & Herzegovina had a song where they mixed Bosnian rapping with conjugating French verbs (I don't remember which year specifically this happened, just that it was sometime in the 90s and that I found it absolutely hilarious) or when either Austria or Germany (I think it was Austria) sent a kiddy song about the animals on the farm. So yeah, definitely do more 90s ones.

The kind of music Sweden had, is a genre of it´s own. It´s called dansband (Dance Band), and it´s a cheesy mix of country, jazz and old school rock ´n´ roll. Here in Sweden, dansband has been a thing since the late 1950´s. The most known bands are Sven-Ingvars, Lasse Stefanz, Vikingarna, Larz-Kristerz, BlackJack, Arvingarna, Grönwalls and Wizex. Blond, as this group is called, isn´t that known anymore. Bara Hon Älskar Mig (If Only She Loved Me) is a one-hit-wonder kind of song. :D

That was a throwback and a half, pure 90's glitz, Eurovision back when you had an orchestra and the countries had to sing in their national languages. (And before the televote, the countries voted only by a jury). If Noosh wants to delve deeper into vintage Eurovision, I'd suggest Jerusalem 1979, Munich 1983, Brussels 1987, Rome 1991, Millstreet 1993 and Birmingham 1998.

It's so interesting to see how Eurovision changed through the years! Honestly, I wouldn't mind having the orchestra back and some more songs in native languages. The organisation of Rome 1991 was awful... As an Italian, I feel so ashamed about it... As for the other contests mentioned, I still have to watch them :)
@paulojrneto
@paulojrneto 4 жыл бұрын
@@fifi3649 The organisation in Rome was a total mess but the songs were great and added magic to the stage! It's because of that contradiction that I love that year.

but the Juries were larger (16 members) & made up of the public rather than music professionals , so it wasn't too different from the televote.

Actually, 1997 was the first year in which some countries began using the televote. So that year was actually kind of a transitional year when it came to that.
