I love mine. I think I’m up to three 5’s six 1’s a sound bar and two subs and a Sonia move, I love them. I’m also a tech addict degenerate with more money than I need. But seriously , waking up with a playlist slowly fading in throughout the house while my lights turn on at 50% and my coffee pot starts grinding is a vibe. It helps me forget oboist the hole in my hear that God left when he died, the same hole that I fill with Sonos products.

I started using Sonos products years ago. At the time it was a bargain compared to whole house products from Crestron. My Sonos journey started with one Play 1 and over the years I've added enough speakers to cover the interior and outside of my home. It wasn't cheap but I'm a recovering audiophile and spent more on my two channel speakers than all the Sonos combined. Let me add I'm not rich. I started buying stuff in high school. I actually had a Velodyne ULD 15 on layaway at a hi fi shop who allowed me to pay it off over 10 months. I typically keep products a long time. I'm happy with Sonos. They are not perfect but its a product that has been used everyday in my home since the first speaker was brought home.

The whole walled garden thing isn't for me. Audio tech stays good so the idea of needing an app not something that will eventually lose support is a big no. My current speakers are from the late 90s and sound fantastic through a new Amp and receiver

A great and timely video - thank-you. I was just in the store today and ready to buy a full Sonos system. Ah Sonos, I’m sick of the walled garden approach companies take. I just want seem-less integration with my Siri HomeKit smart home. Sonos seems to be a bit too clunky with Siri at the moment.

I just took the plunge on Black Friday sales and picked up a Beam Gen 2 and Sub Mini, plus have 4 x Symfonisk waiting for me to install when I get home next week. So far so good, though want to reserve final judgement until I have set up the symfonisk surrounds and truly tinkered (also have new chairs coming so need to factor that in too_. I will say so far that the biggest disappointment is the lack of a more advanced EQ setting. My wife has misophonia and a more detailed EQ setting would allow me to dial out as much of the pops and clicks as I can for the videos we watch. We watch a lot of KZbin on TV together and need to dial the max volume all the way down to 35% to cut the appreciable difference between the video and ads (SO LOUD!!). Another feature that would be handy (to pair with a more advanced EQ) is custom EQ profiles so that I can switch between them for different outputs (music, KZbin/dialogue, movies, etc...) They are minor quibbles at the moment, interested to see how the surrounds go when I install them

Great Long term review 👍! I have two Sonos play 1 and two Sonos one for listening to music the hole day. They are very good and small. For movies I have an AV-Receiver with floorstanding speakers as a 5.1 setup. Sure I could buy a Sonos Amp, but then I have to pay 700 € and lose my Center-channel and get also no dts support. So I understand your part which you explain the problems with Sonos products.

Sonos products are nice, no question about it, but unfortunately, once you make the mistake of getting into that "walled garden" of Sonos products, you end up quickly finding out that you're effectively a prisoner there. Face it, Sonos wants your money - and they want as much of it as they can possibly get out of you. They design their products in a way that makes that incredibly obvious, right from the very start too. There are much easier ways to accomplish everything that Sonos brings to the table - and they can all be done at a mere fraction of the cost. As with so many other things in life, it really does pay to do your homework before buying.

Sonos are great quality with great sound. So many other “higher-end” brands are jumping on the multi-speaker idea as well. Buying traditional components to achieve good sound can be very pricey as well..especially if the goal is music around your home.

Google home speakers seem cheaper and more versatile. Seems sonos looks way more expensive without that much better performance. Although finding the Google home max speaker in 2023 is proving to be difficult. Managed to find 1 so far. With nvidia shield or even a cheap chromecast hooked up to my avr can make my home theater part of my Google home speaker group.

Don't buy sonos. I am struggling from day one, and I had a hope to adjust everything right, but no luck. Sound control only from the app, which is very inconvenient. Also, even with modern eero mesh wifi, eras 100 sometimes have a glitchy sound connected to Beam gen 2. I paid $720+600 CAD or so, and I believe that for this money, it should work better. I am thinking of returning it back to Costco as Sonos tech support has no clue how to fix it... diagnostics #...over and over. I tried everything. Wire is a king in audio.

I had a similar issue when I added the Arc system for my maint TV room to my already existing two Beams, two Gen 3 subs, and 4 Symfonisk bookshelf rear surrounds in my Office and master bedroom. Connecting the Arc with a wire to the router created a separate Sonos Wi-Fi network and all Sonos devices joined (works exactly the same way as the Sonos Boost). I don't have network slow downs, slow webpage refresh, or Sonos audio issues since plugging in the Arc.

Their full size sub while not cheap, is their most incredible product. It sounds great and it is not boomy like many other subs. Pair it with any other product and I think you have not the best audio you can buy, but the best audio at the price! The move from S1 to S2 was a bit of a debacle but it was needed. For the first 15+ years they supported every device they ever made! In the tech world that is a lifetime! New streaming and audio technologies could not run on 15 year old chips. Apple changes their charging cables every 5 years it seems or changes USB tech and cuts off everything before it at the knees. The walled garden for sonos in my opinion has been well maintained. YES I do think the price to bring in a port or Play 5 for line in is way too much. And the wifi unstable issues talked about, while rare are enough to make you insane when they happen. BUT there is also another reason for the garden... support! Sonos for the most part has very good, US based support. All the other rubbish on Amazon that is cheap, does not. So let's suppose the wall was taken down and you try to integrate an outside product and there is an issue. Are going to call india and sit on hold for 3 hours or call Sonos because they pick up and have well trained support? Sonos does not want to become support for everyone elses poorly made products. It is a a trade off but ultimately I think they made the right move. For me the biggest downer is no more native Android to sonos support (they used to years ago) as of now only airplay 2 works and with the new ERA speakers Bluetooth is supported but not ideal.

I have had so many problems with sonos. I have three rooms with the built in surround sound.. outside I have sound bars on two tv’s, a move, and two other speakers that are paired in my living room. Every bedroom and master bath and garage has built in ceiling speakers. I think Im having more of a wifi problem. So I bought the eero mesh and still connectivity drops all the time. The music comes on and off. I don’t know it’s just a headache and playing all speakers at once forget it. I hope I can figure it out.

I had a similar issue when I added additional Sonos for 19 pieces total (issues started when I added Arc/dual subs/Fives). I also had 4 people in the house and probably +20 other devices on the same wi-fi network (phones, laptop, ipads, oven, dishwasher, smart TVs, air purifiers, etc...). Sonos is always communicating and takes up a lot bandwidth. I plugged in my Arc into a port on router and Sonos system set up its own wi-fi network freeing up bandwidth. Zero issues in +2 years.

Thanks - interesting points. I've just bought a new Samsung TV to replace an older one, with which I used a budget Samsung soundbar + integrated sub. I've been wondering about changing the soundbar as well - the old one is 8 years old and only has ARC input, whereas the new TV has an eARC output and I feel that it ought to produce better sound with a better soundbar. Of course Sonos is high on the list of non-Samsung possibilities, so the Beam Gen 2 is something I've definitely been thinking. Still not sure about the lack of a sub, but interested in using a Sonos One (which I have) as a rear speaker. I haven't been able to do that already as the Samsung system won't play with anything non-Samsung, as far as I can see.

The worry with Sonos devices is what happens to your perfectly good speakers when they give up on supporting 'legacy' devices down the line. The S1 app was a compromise to appease their users as I understand it, but supporting it or even the S2 app forever can't be feasible. Is there some way to keep such devices functional indefinitely without badly compromising security? EDIT: I have used Sonos devices fairly extensively and found the native app slow and annoying but the overall system very pleasant to use.

@mrgold3591
@mrgold3591 Жыл бұрын
Really depends on your mix and type of streaming movies, music, and cable/DirectTV. I've notice regular cable TV can be in stereo instead of 5.1 format with my Beam Gen 1, Sub Gen 3 sub, & two One SLs. Sometimes my One SLs rears are just there for decoration depending on the TV show. Streaming movies/TV series seem to lean more toward 5.1 format and I get more use from my rear One SL surrounds. What I like about the Sub is it works for all audio sources from stereo to 5.1. It takes some of the bass duties from my Beam. My Beam sound better with much clearer mid range and voice along with way more bass when needed.
