Way to go, Grace! So much of what you said hit me hard. I had ovarian cancer last year (rare, slow-growing, weird as my surgeon called it). Had surgeries and it's all gone and I didn't need to do chemo (just medication), so I get the "It's over and done and I got off easy" feeling. It had caused nerve damage in my leg before we knew the cause and I walk with a cane now (maybe forever, who knows?). I couldn't walk up stairs last year. But last week, I CLIMBED UP THE FREAKING SPACE NEEDLE here in Seattle! It's 832 steps. I was almost the slowest time, but I DID IT! I also had all this energy post-event but no one at home to tell. I rode the bus home and went grocery shopping with my big ol' medal on, though! Thanks for your realness, Grace... and great job on repelling down that building!!

It's so cool that you got to do something so amazing with your cancer support community. My Dad got the chance to be in a cancer survivors' group at The Y (where he was the only dude in the group; yep, all the ladies wanted to chat up Norb. Stud) where they did different exercises around The Y every week and supported each other getting stronger after their fights. Great that you had a chance to meet up with friends and Tom Cruise down a building!

Ooof, that survivor's guilt is haaaard. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in 2015 and also have had a fairly easy time with it (young, healthy, "simple" to resect, etc). Around the same time a friend of mine who had just had a baby girl found out she had a rare, aggressive form of cervical cancer. Incredibly, she made it through her treatments and had clear scans afterward, only to be taken from us unexpectedly by a brain aneurysm a couple of months later. Logically, I know that's just how life goes, but I don't think I'll ever truly get over that feeling of guilt. 💛

There is no need to feel survivor's guilt Grace. Every journey through this disease is different and there is no sense in who makes it and who doesn't. While your battle is over and you were victorious, the war against cancer isn't over. It's up to the survivors, researchers, doctors, and people that have lost loved ones to pick up the torch and win the battles of those we lost.

I'm so glad to see somthing outside of my local algorithm. The National Guard has been helping a lot in Western North Carolina lately. I got lucky, I'm one state above. Anyways one thought led to another and it made me think how national guard should learn how to do and then offer a rappel wall/climbing wall every month instead of being made to go outside and vacuum the parking lot. They should do it for cancer survivors and their people, for the loved ones of those with Alzheimers, for anybody with a big psychic punch they need to release but not at a person.
