What's good my fellow degenerates! This was originally supposed to be 2 videos but there wasn't really enough content, plus the themes were super similar, so I combined it into one mega video and I think that was for the best. One more video and then Season 2 is complete! Do your boy a favour and like the video and subscribe (and watch the video on repeat for 800 days). See you next in: Kyoto!

Jake, I love your videos. It is vacation time, and I'm revisiting many of them. And suddenly, this. You are such a freak! You make me think of my father looking for the 1973 edition of a random book in every bookshop of Barcelona... Coming back to Bar D one week later? What? Really? Thank for doing it for us. Really, thanks for your videos. I love them

Jake, your videos are amazing!! Im bingin them all! I wonder if you have plans to explore south america, i know the cocktail culture is not as strong as asia or north america, but im curious. also, i have a trip to buenos aires in a few months, do you have any bar recomendations there? thanks!

I really want to go to South America, hopefully I can figure out a way to go next year. São Paulo, Cartagena and Buenos Aires all have amazing cocktail scenes I’ve heard, although I don’t know too much about them yet. Tres Monos and Floreria Atlantico are the 2 big ones I know of in BA but I’m sure there are lots more worth trying

Recently found your channel and absolutely love the videos and your style. Wondering since you mention most Japanese bars require a conversation with the bartender to select the drink, do most of the bartenders at these places speak English? Would someone ever have trouble ordering? Sorry if thats an ignorant question - looking to make it to Japan next year and have heard you shouldn’t expect people to speak English like you can in some other countries around the world.

Most places in the larger cities have at least a basic understanding of English. It helps if you don't overcomplicate your sentences, and when in doubt Google translate always works.

Hi Jake, will you be visiting Hokkaido cities for their bars? I would very much look forward to it!
@valianes5 ай бұрын
I tried to do a Hokkaido video as one of my first videos, but I wasn’t happy with it, so I abandoned it. I might re-visit it when I have some downtime to see if I feel any different about it

I can not believe bar'd was once on the asia's best bars list. Its style is far from the standards of the list in 2023 and 2024. And the owner is very low-key on the SNS, while the list always prefers 'international' bar. It is surprising.
@valianes5 ай бұрын
Actually it’s not too surprising if you think about how voting works (and the other circumstances). They made the list in 2021 and 2022 when travel to and from Japan was highly restricted due to covid. And, voting for the list is based on regions. Each region gets an equal number of voters, and Japan is one region. If those Japanese voters couldn’t travel, they would have to vote on bars within Japan only.

While I admired the craft and passion of Japanese bartenders when I was in Tokyo a few years back…most places are just not places I want to spend a lot of time in. Too serious and stuffy. I realize that’s a cultural thing but here in Ireland half of the enjoyment of bars is the atmosphere and the fact that most bartenders are easy going.
