I worked in Herne Bay when I was a student. I worked at the after school care program at Bayfield Primary so I got to meet a lot of these parents … they were all so lovely and easy going. I’m a Polynesian from West Auckland and they never once made feel like I was out of place. My grandmothers house was only a few minutes away in Grey Lynn so I was familiar with the area and have seen the gentrification over the decades but it’s nice to know the people are good people.

Left NZ 2 months ago for a new chapter with my wife in the Philippines. NZ being too expensive especially for the working middle class is the sole reason of our move. You pretty much have to decide between having a family or a house. One full time worker is not enough to sustain a comfortable lifestyle.

Theres hidden gems all around NZ that you need to see bro. There’s a little spot somewhere on the way towards Maraetai where about 4 years ago I met this “PROPER RICH” old man, I worked with my dad on his internet and he had like a proper old school mansion like in the movies with the pillars, palm trees, garden and statues but you can’t see anything until you drive into his property because everything is covered up from the outside from the tall hedges. he was cleaning his car collection (he said he cleans it every week btw) and they weren’t normal cars, they were like 1920-1940ish Rolls Royce’s, he had like 12. No joke he also had a tank sitting in his front lawn. His mansion literally looks like a scene from the TV series Bridgeton.
