Phenomenal questions from you and great answers from James Gunn. It's obvious that Gunn put a lot of care into this film and has a reverence for the character that makes me very excited. I was first introduced to superhero media through Smallville, so there's a special place in my heart for Superman. This is the most excited I've been for something Superman-related since I found Smallville all those years ago, and videos like this are a big reason why. Well done, BD!

Gunn made the right call! Siegel & Shuster got it right the first time. Superman is a public performing identity created by Clark Kent, the costume is athletic tights and a cape created by Clark inspired by wrestlers and athletes, the red trunks and yellow belt also give the suit color balance. I am so glad to see that Gunn understands this so well! Gunn is absolutely right too: Superman is naturally a scary character without trying. If you want to see what happens when a character like that stays hidden and uses his powers suddenly around regular people, read Philip Wylie's Gladiator, the inspiration for Superman. A costume is a similar concept to facial hair on guys: a big guy doesn't need facial hair because he is naturally imposing and would look scary with it, while a little guy is less so and the facial hair on him makes him look tougher. Superman's costume is to announce that he is here, to be noticed, that he is not hiding, the primary colors and shield with an S in it that he designed all indicate that he is a protector. Batman's costume is the opposite, where its purpose is to instil fear and mystery, to conceal. All I want as a superhero movie fan is that there is straightforward continuity; essentially, for the studios/writers not "stepping on their own toes" when they create these movies. I am wishing James Gunn the best with launching a new DC universe.

I like to think that when they reference «The Suici*de Squad» or «Peacemaker season one» from DCEU, it means that a Similar event happened in the DCU. Like when in «The Batman» they reference his origin story. So it means some Similar events as we saw in «Batman Begins» happened, but it didt necessarily play out the same way as depicted in the previous incarnation. Its more confuseing when both incarnations have the same actor
