@@nicebars Most dangerous city in Italy. At night on the streets you only find Arabs and Africans who are just waiting to rob you or worse if you are a girl. Culturally it has little to offer, the evening life is very active, but that's all. It's not worth it, everyone avoids it now

Yup. And the very possibility of the receptionist calling refugees "dirty" makes him the dirtiest of all. Whether most people know it or not, their family members are refugees from other countries s the same insults can be applied to themselves unless their families are 100% pure Italian (or whatever country it is that you are from). Bottom line - mostly everyone has refugee blood in them somewhere down the line.

22:00 As someone who grew up in Libya and only left a few years ago and still aware of the situation there, I would like to clarify that the refugees are most likely not Libyans, but African illegal refugees who arrived to Italy from Libya.. Before 2011, Africans couldn't just go and immigrate to Europe from Libya this easy.. Authorities were strict and didn't allow this to happen.. But after the declining safety and regulations in Libya after 2011, Africans could break into Libya from the southern borders of the country, destroy what they could destroy, and some of them just immigrated to Europe.. Whenever you see a Libyan abroad, he or she are most likely students or if they're immigrants, it's most likely done legally

This reminds me of my unintentional stay at the worst hostel in my own country, Switzerland. It had basically no staff after 9pm, so all guest were on their own and it was so bad that I ended up sleeping on a sofa in the lobby with another guest that had the same problem. I wanted to check out early at 7am because I had an appointment, but the staff didn't return until 10am, so I wasn't able to check out for 3 hours and ended up waiting in the tiny lobby with 20 angry people waiting for the staff to return. There's even a wall with terrible reviews from guests written on paper pinned on the wall.

Just want to mention that an unlocked door is pretty much common in a lot of hostels world wide. You usually always have different storages to keep your belongings secure and it´s also very common to have your OWN lock to lock the storage. I was in different bedrooms all over the world (Australia/New Zealand/Germany) and it was pretty much always like this. From my perspective you can´t blame them for this.

I am hoping to do some backpacking across Europe this next year and wanted to stay in some of these hostels (although maybe not the lowest rated ones such as Hostel California lol) Do you have any advice, tips, or insights on hostels in general? What are the signs that a hostel is a good place versus a bad place when booking online aside from the rating? Also how is the social life in most hostels? Do a lot of people get along pretty well or is it common for it to be awkward or to have fights occur? If you end up responding I highly appreciate it!

@@nicebars Just look for hostels with good reviews and you will be good. Social life depends on the hostel. Most important is if they have a nice common room to chill and you can also check the photo's to see what the vibe is like. People get along very well never seen a fight. Have fun backpacking!

When I was backpacking across Italy last year, I had booked a night at that hostel. Every other hostel and budget hotel had been booked solid and I had no other options. I had booked only one night, but upon getting to my bed, I found three bed bugs and noped the fuck out of there. I ended up sleeping against my backpack in a park that night.

This was awesome. These hostels in general are known for having thieves among guests. The details on booking should however remind guests to bring their own towel, lock etc. My worst experience has been in the Netherlands.

Unfortunately the hotel staff couldn’t have cared less. I really wish we’d read the hotels reviews more carefully before booking!
