While I agree that wisdom / experience is very helpful in avoiding scams, intelligence can also be beneficial and sometimes crucial. Take the scams in runescape for example, sure having played the game I could use my experience and wisdom to avoid a bait by knowing game mechanics, on the other hand people have tried to scam me in other games when I was younger and when I had no experience and arguably low levels of wisdom in regards to the way of the world and I still haven't fallen for it. In that case I level of intelligence is what prevented it from happening. The most wise people can be tricked by someone with high intelligence by knowing more about a subject just like someone who is very intelligent can be laid low by simple tricks they've never experienced. This video however shows how easily a lure can fall apart if anyone starts questioning things which often requires them to be smart enough to see the red flags if they haven't seen this bait before.

From automatic teles at certain health, world hopping as soon as a player is spotted, auto prayer pot drinking. If you can think of it, there's a high chance it's on GitHub, and probably for free.

Great videos. About to submit my PhD thesis into preventing deception and manipulation (or social engineering), and have a decent history of educating police in preventing scams/frauds happening in everyday life. Got back into OSRS in lockdown and boy was my face red after falling for a lure thinking I could anti-lure, and then the lurers having the cheek to invite me to the community of lurers to 'earn my losses back'. Really great to see this education within this online community, where people commit many valuable hours for other's to take advantage of for their own monetary gain, which is a huge shame. But hey, it can happen anywhere. Great advice RE: if it's too good to be true, then it probably is. Two things to add: first line of defence = keep private chat on friends only. Second line of defence is taking care when thinking that you may be able to anti-lure, don't risk it unless you're comfortable with taking a loss, because how convoluted these are becoming - you're more likely to get burnt. Thanks again for the educational vids!

I ran into the TOB pluging lure, a maxed account tried to lure me with this plug-in, they add you on discord and try to convice you they will teach you tob while you scale the raid for them. They send you a picture of the gear you should use (maxed melee, range and mage) I asked them if I can use void they told me maxed will be easier to learn (they just want you to risk more). Then they send you the plugin, it is a OpenOSRS custom plugin and the instructions on how to install it. That's when i googled the plugin and found out about the scam. When you install the plugin they tell you to hop worlds for better ping. As pugger said it will just black your screen and hop you into pvp world. I almost lost over 2b.

Duuuude. I had the exact same thing happen to me in the same spot around 2 years ago now and also lost around 300m... I was so tired at the time, couldn't believe I fell for it. That lure spot behind the door was patched literally the day after I got lured, it was so surreal. Did they tell you to add them on discord after to get the money back, and then try to make you trade more with the promise of being able to join their luring discord and work with them luring people? It was 2 american guys on 3 accounts who lured me. I wonder if we were victim to the same guys. Since then I just had my private messages off, and now only play group iron with friends. There is also a very similar lure that involves some kind of animation glitch. The lurer will appear to be inside of a safe zone and ask you to trade them, only they've used an animation to hide the fact that they're actually outside the safe zone, so when you trade them your character zips over to where they are actually standing, annnnnnd queue the ZGS specs.

I do a lot of wilderness slayer with and the amount of skull trickers is ridiculous, they are quite easy to spot once you have seen a few, best thing to do is just only fight using auto retaliate and logout as soon as you can. If they just straight up killed me I would lose on average about 200k but thanks to their greed they let you escape easily. Some of them let you kill them and then log in on the lootpile while you are spamming it. just log out as soon as they log in and you can get away with the loot.

Hey pugger i think i found a lms mule at edge. He logs in around midday in Amsterdam time hops a few worlds and logs out. Has like 900 lms points and the bots he trades have a lot of points too. I dont know why they teleport to edgeville and i couldnt find many other bots he traded but he logs in sits in the bank and logs out and then the bot logs out as well. It seems like this is the final step trading them the items they got from lms.

A couple of years ago I *almost* lost my tbow to a very similar lure. There is a gate in Varrock that, when the gate is open, enclosed a 1-tile area. This gate never received the "stuck door" treatment, so when I dropped my tbow there in an attempt to antiscam, they spammed the door and I couldn't get to it. Unfortunately for them I realized I could just go to that spot on another world and hop to it, which worked. They couldn't believe it and wanted me to show them in trade

Ouch. This isn't nearly as bad but I'm pretty sure I lost my Guthix this way too many years ago. I was F2P and saved up for over a week mining and selling iron and coal. Spent awhile looking for someone who would sell it at my price, and finally acquired it. But then I went into a PVP world for fun with it on, and lost it still when I could have sworn I wasn't skulled. Not gonna lie, it made me get a bot to go for the bigger prize which was full Sara. But theeeeen I gave up because RS became unrewarding ever since I had started cheating. It wasn't worth all the trouble anymore because I wasn't even the one playing anymore. Eventually I did come back though and played legitimately again.

Was only a week ago I ran into this one. Knowing that you loose stuff even if unskulled being carefully to never do an action while I had stuff on me, I'd trade request before grabbing stuff, then they'd accept after I banked, so there was no chance of me getting dragged out. We sat at the farming guild for a good 45 minutes wasting this guys time. Was fun. He then tried to do it at fossil island bank which has no safe zone (thinking I didnt know about the skull irrelevancy) simply never pulled stuff out.

Yeah i got skull tricked 2 days ago at wildi gwd. I always take 1 worthy item even though im not skulled. So wat was my gear? I was wearing dwarf helm, glory, black body, black chaps, barrow gloves, climb boots, addy def and a vig chainmace. Soon as i got skulled i got claw speced, barraged ballistad and everything. But my black dhides safed me and i got out.

Sirpugger, those exact two people tried that on me, and I anti-pked them(the guy dressed as a paper) It was obvious to me that they were attempting to skull trick me. The “key hunter” Sneaky cheeks, told me he only world hopped to kill spiritual mages in a specific spot, which I knew was a lie. After anti pking the other guy a first time, they did come back eventually and I chanced the pker a few times. 30 minutes later again(I was dry on getting keys) they were in my world again...and didn’t even bother because they knew that I knew what was going on

I've been messing with lurers a bit recently. And they have made it so whenever i go to ge a spam bot logs in spams the usual message about player using glitches to scam people from their items but with me rsn in them.This might be a one time thing but i believe those "warn" bots are not only owned by lurers but also used to punish the people who legitimately save their friends from these people

Had this happen but I knew it was a scam and purposely wasted an hour of their time...when I confronted the scammer he googled my in game name and acted like he had hacked my computer lol while it was just him looking at google images of my Reddit posts and describing things that I’d uploaded lol...what a sad life these scammers have..worst part is even with screenshots as proof jagex STILL hasn’t banned the players

Ive encountered this skull trick on my ironman. I had arma helm, blowpipe, and zammy chaps. Luckily i play with player indicators and saw the new guy log in under me. I was able to log out while TBed.

I ran into a scam the other day where he asked me to drop my items and then he'd trade me a grand seed pod with 6 m and I was supposed to spam click the seed pod. His friend messaged me saying don't click the pod and just keep the gold. He holds the trade and makes sure you have 28 open slots and then just waits for your items to appear on the ground so he can pick them up. 10 second of staring at a trade screen I realized that was the scam part and made it off scott free.

I had a similar scam pulled on me. Guy wanted me to drop 20m and he would give me 40m. The second person dm me saying, just pick up your money before the timer and then don't press the tele he gave you. But the dm scammer gave the wrong time for when dropped items become available to pick up. He said just set a timer for 90 seconds so you know you won't lose your money. Except for the trade scammer who stalls the trade so it takes the full 60 seconds so your money appears on the ground and a second account steals it. Obviously, I knew the drop timer length so didn't fall for it but wasn't able to scam him which they count on thinking you can scam them. So in a way, videos like this make their job better because the avg player thinks they are smart enough to scam the scammer when they aren't.

you know i think someone tried this on me with the raids thing, they start by asking you to buy 20k grapes for them cause theyre going for 200m cooking xp, then ask to add so u can do it later, the person then barraged me with messages about being a +1 for their raid even when i said i wasnt interested. watch out for the people asking you to buy them 20k grapes!

I caught a lurer on OSRS named Death Rune. He messaged me by saying he liked my username and tried to force me to jump on his world for a “party drop”. There’s a lot of scripts these crooks make.
