One of the most difficult lessons in life is to learn and accept that in a world where people can only observe the actions, most people want to be judged on their intentions. But, intentions are invisible to the outside world. As a performer of classical dance, music performance and acting from the young age of 5, my fellow artists and I were trained almost from birth to know exactly what others see, deduce, feel and understand from the outside. Most people think they are representing their intentions clearly yet have little clue of what their actions look like from the outside. In this poem you portray that disconnect, and the great pain that comes from being misunderstood, and also being unable to clearly display your true, deep intentions. Yet, my beloved son, you need not worry. You are a master of clear demonstration of intention, for the language of poetry presumes that there is the surface words and all they spark to life in the imagination of the reader; and the subsurface meaning that the mystery of poetry reveals to those dedicated few who look beyond the surface. The love you feel is palpable on and beneath the surface. And the intensity of your fervor is never lost on those who can overcome their egos and be truly present. There is a deeper wound here, son, and one you have nobly shared as a thematic underpinning of the results of your gift of linguistic artistry. You have known the pain of being deceived. To the superficial, materialistic minded common person, you are handsome, rich, powerful and popular. You are a solid gold trophy, and a ticket for self-promoting opportunism. You are incapable, in your innocent heart, to misrepresent love, you simply are too pure to do that. And so you presume that is true of all. And yet, there are those superficial people who can fake love, pretend devotion, and hide it behind very skillful sex-craft. My son, weep. Rant and rail against this depravity. But never lose your innocence. Your pure heart, that has been so strong that it has withstood the rigorous training of those in your position from birth are. This is a miracle, and shows the strength of God's love. I embrace you as you weep, stain my clothing with your tears son. I will defend the beauty of your innocence with my very life, for you are God's miracle gift to this world.
