I'll meet Tyler Cafe halfway - I thought that there were some things that it did well, other things that weren't bad but were unoriginal, and some things that did not impress me. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't suck.

I am suffering from a real open world fatigue. So much busy work that is sabotaging the flow of the story. So much meddiocre stuff in so many games. But Mad Max is somehow totally perfect in this way. The dullness and monotony actually contributes to the atmosphere. Killing and searching and looting for a few screws, one or two bullets or just a few drips of water. It perfectly lets you breathe in the atmosphere. I have never seen such a beautiful desert. What a great Idea to put it on the ocean floor. The story is compelling because it is so scarce and I like the psychological comments of Griffon. The camps are designed very nice, averything is totally mean. The Car combat rocks, and the combat system is perfect for this game. To use the shot gun as a signature special move! I love it. I will be wasting my time in the Wasteland! MEDIOCRE!!!!!!

My advice is to clear out one region per day. And then do a couple of story missions as you are finished. It's a big game and if you try to finish it fast and at the same time do everything you will get tired.

I concur! Car combat with the harpoon is the best! And hand-to-hand part is just gorgeous! I never miss a chance getting out of a car and pulling the 1980-90's Steven Seagal on those freaks! I only wish there was more Fury Road references and crossovers in it.

@@elguitarTom I actually cleared everything 100% before the end of the game and that was major mistake. Because what I really enjoy is having the Interceptor without Chum and Max's typical outfit and shotgun (that you get after finishing the story) and it is bigger fun to still have something to explore at this stage. Thats why I decided to finish story as quick as possible this time and leave the majority of exploring for later.

I prefer open world because of that reason. I'm tired of story based games. I can't follow them through to the end before my head starts to hurt and I have to go and do something else. When I finally get to play something I'm really tired. I have studies, work and a child of 2 years. My life is crammed to the brim (and flowing over) with busy work all day long until late in the evening, when I finally get to spend some time alone in-front of the computer. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 is just too much for me. I need something open where I can just fool around and do absolutely nothing at all but still have fun. That's when big open world games with lots of random side quests, lots of loot drops and mini-games shine the best imo. Games like WoW is a good example of this. It's brain dead entertainment filled with meaningless side activities like transmog-runs and world quests. I don't need to think or follow any story if I don't want to, I can just leave my brain on the shelf and relax after 10+ hours of non-stop thinking.

Not sure what the point of commenting here would be, but anyway...I thoroughly enjoyed Mad Max and have played through it twice, both times over a long period of time and sometimes briefly interrupted by or interwoven with playing other games. Reviewers go through a game with intent to complete it, as TB said, to get a complete picture, and perhaps Mad Max isn't a game changer in that regard. Mad Max is a game more suited to slowly being chipped away at. It's great for when you come home from a stressful day of work and want to blow shit up or or take in the atmosphere or whatever you want to get out of it for a couple hours. It's very cathartic and comfortable.

I couldn't agree more - been thinking about the difference between reviewers and normal people and the biggest has to be how we play. We play AND have normal lives to deal with, they play them and every other release all day every day. I had so much fun with Max and loved that I got so much game to settle in with after work. It was so cathartic and I'm happily going to play it again. Great comment

@Tesla Or perhaps I enjoyed it more than you. Your experience with it isn't the gold standard. It's your experience. I found it repetitive at first too. Cleared out one territory without following the story. Then I let it rest playing other games. Came back to it after a long time, following the story until completion of the whole map. I enjoyed it more after having played other games because it has elements that a lot of other games don't like looking for fuel and water (Days Gone is somewhat similar to this, which I also love). Upgrading your car and character tied to what you find in locations keeps you exploring. Which by the way each of the 200+ locations are unique, none of them are the same. I just think it does a lot of things right, like you said the car combat or melee combat (which is better than the Arkham combat). The world is consistent with the Fury Road universe and very well made. I took tonnes of pictures. Sorry to hear you didn't like it. I've played it entirely through and probably will go through it again some time.

I enjoy Mad Max a lot. True, I also feel tired of all the minor tasks, but at some point, you can ignore them. It makes the game a bit more challenging (not building the projects, not upgrading so quickly etc), but it also makes it more fun and lets you enjoy whatever you enjoy. So yeah, I think it's a fun game. It also runs very well on Linux.

in my opinion, one of the big gripes is the difference between what a critic appears to claim that the consumers want and what the consumers actually want. comes back to publishers not necessarily listening to their consumers, who happen to be the income input of the whole issue, and the main reason some triple A game publishing companies are tanking lately ... proximal development is a factor of one foot in the known and one in the unknown, new challenges anchored in already mastered experiences...

The biggest problem i had with this game was how badly inserted the enemies were, you could enter a base and move for minutes without finding anyone or special event. They could have really added "life" to the game there. Honestly it's like a half baked game, it needed another year to fully implement life into it. Another big problem was the handling of the vehicles, the combat was amazing but the handling was terrible. A simple tap on the directions made the car move a lot. If they implemented a proper racing game handling with progressive force turn rate based on time pressed they would been golden on that.

Some things i noticed were the lack of a good soundtrack (or any at all). Also where are the bigass trucks and flaming guitar dudes? Max wasn't half as badass as the movies. No one can tell me that the game is not lacking something but that does not change the fact that the game was fun if taken on short bursts of gameplay, and the storms are part of why i like the game but it really needs to improve on some other stuff. I'd say it's a ''Good game''.

Can we start a petition to have a sequel? All they have to do is work on a narrative and the side quest . That’s it . I totally do not understand why WB doesn’t give a bigger budget and focus on the story element? This game is amazing but suffers from bad decisions made but avalanche. These companies want to make a ton of money but don’t actually put the effort. Who asked for Gotham knights. ? No one . Who wants a max max sequel ? Everyone

I know I am late to this video, but while I agree with almost everything you said, it absolutely DOES matter if the game doesn't review well from critics, for many reasons but mostly because there will likely never be a sequel to this game because of it. It's just sad to think about really. People getting paid to crap on a game ultimately determines if the people who actually enjoy it deserve a sequel or not. Edit: I didn't realize the person behind this video passed away. May he rest in peace and always be remembered.

So true. When I finally got an HDR display, Nothing quite prepared me for the pathetic mess that is HDR on Windows. The calibration process is completely broken, and there's 2 different calibration screens when HDR is ON/OFF. If I switch the refresh rate, it just breaks and flickers when it feels like it. And 95% of games I've ever played seemed to calibrate incorrectly too. HDR just doesn't make any common sense on windows for those who actually care about a technically precise, calibrated experience. feels like it's just switch on and wah screen go bright. It's the most under-utilized feature in games. When it works, it is day and night how vibrant things are.

Don't have to finish everything to finish the game. Actually, I would even suggest bee-lining to Gas Town to get the V8. There's certain quests to get certain upgrades, as well as a couple things that need you to clear a region. I've played the game several times, it's one of my favorites. At first I didn't like the fist fighting because it's a typical Warner Bros style, but then the cheat for that works too. But where the charm really is, is taking out the convoys. If anything, the game needs more convoys, because that's exactly what is Mad Max than anything else.

25:57 Terminator Genesis had its big plot twist spoiled in the trailer? Ah I see they were doing a remake of the Terminal 2 trailer then. Its big plot twist was that the terminator is the good guy this time around, and the skinny framed, Kyle Reese underdog looking character was the bad guy. And it was spoiled in the trailer. So everybody already knew going into it. Ridiculous.

I love it how in the background - whomever's playing the game - fails at every damn task; takes out the convoy, but brings the lead vehicle to Jeet's instead of destroying it... Tries to take out an explosion-resistant gate - even thought it specifically says it's explosion restricted etc... If that's how critics and reviewers play games, no wonder they are out of touch with the actual gamers' experience...

So know we know, with the benefit of hindsight, that the journalists would just rush through a game to get the review out. So when faced with an open world game, one which by it's very nature will take a longer amount of time to complete, the journos reeee about the length because it means they will miss their deadline. They are not interested in games or creativity or art they are interested only in being first.

i feel like mad max would be a lot more fun, if they simply expanded the map a lot, i mean, its just a relatively small map compared to recent games. i mean, it was a ton of fun, but in the end, you are able to get to gas town right after blowing up the jaw, if you had a wider range of map with a bit more enemy spawns, more convoys or bigger convoys as well. a longer story which would come with a bigger map, and thats it, its a fun game, and it could probably be improved by a good DLC

One thing to consider is that Steam reviews are a hard yes or a hard no, and that produces very very different results to broader numbered scores. So 95% upvotes on Steam is not the same as a 9.5/10 review score, since you could have any number of people who are like "eh, it was okay I guess", and still rated it positively just because it's not an outright bad game

I think part of it is that critics tend to try and look as a game as a whole, either finishing it or at least playing quite a bit of it. Many user reviews are probably from people who haven't played it very long. For me anyway, Mad Max started out good, but it really started to wear on me as the tediousness of collecting scrap, bugs and poor AI became more apparent.

I love the Arkham style combat, I know it’s shallow but it’s just so entertaining. I think shadow of war did it the best tho

The quintessential average game. Some fun moments spread thin between tedious busywork. Tried my hardest to love it but she's a solid 6.5/10.

I recently just got this game off the store 2021 and i have really enjoyed this game the combat can be clunky at times but its fun and enjoyable still storyline is a bit dry and i agree with the reviews but performance wasnt very good on playstation but im on a standard ps4 frame rate drops did bug me the game is a bit like chumbuckets car very buggy but im enjoying the game still yes there is a lot of repetative stuff to do but i enjoyed it and didnt really get bored of it over all i think its a good game and i only payed £15.99 so i wasnt disappointed by it im still playing it at the minute im about 2 missions from the end but overall its a fun enjoyable game

As someone with 2 full playthroughs accounting for over 150 hours behind me, i can tell that Mad Max did a very neat trick: all the OCD scrap hunts are not necessary (unless you want to), since alternative scrap sources are insanely more profitable (storm, ally camps, scrap vehicles). Legend grinding is not necessary either - since more than a great share of it will be completed anyway. Completionist-relevant are the threat/stronghold tasks - since they allow you to max out your car and hero. But even those are only relevant to YOUR desired degree, since the game provides over 90 extra legend levels even after you reach Road Warrior rank. You may grind things, but you don't have to. The game doesn't force you to. No optional mission affects the outcome. The only problem i found with the game are the races. They control so bad, (compared to NFS classics, for example) - unlike the innovative car combat (!) that they make you cringe and avoid them by all costs. On-foot combat?! Bellissimo! Wonderful choreography, brutal moves - and not hidden and obscured behind capes like Batmano... The best i've seen in hand-to-hand. Too bad there is not enough of it. Critics...the self-appointed snobs...well, in the odd scenario of ever reading what they say, - just take their opinion and reverse it, - that is always a good way to go.

So i got this game a month ago and god damn it was good... as a person who played the Batman games... i loved the combat and even more so than Batman.. it looked really good and enemies dodging and attacking more than 2 at once it was great.. not really great start story wise but damn loved it... same as days gone.. people dont know what they are missing... very good games that are getting destroyed by idiots...

I honestly don’t like the Arkham system that much, it’s just tedious, so if this has a similar system it’s not for me
@dlbutters7164
@dlbutters7164 6 жыл бұрын
It's similar but also different than the Arkham combat system, if you press the counter button in the Arkham games, Bats will automatically turn to the enemy to counter, in this, you will also have to turn max to the direction of the enemy, thus making it more difficult, thus making it more realistic and satisfying to play.
