Father died of this when I was young. I have had surgeries and informed everyone of this. They don’t like hearing this , but write on chart.

They are correct, I have had many surgeries and never a problem, but it can happen anytime.

I have been told with MH I am at no risk with sedation anesthesia . Also: I have read studies suggesting overheating may be a precursor of MH episodes. How true is this? Why aren’t even very young kids in sports given coaches who know about, understand response needed and have at a parent/athlete meeting a discussion with everyone including first responders, even Emergency Personnel, and taught along with CPR at least people know about it and immediate aid until Dantrolin(sp) arrives which concerns me how many paramedics are equipped with the medication and cooling blankets?

My kids and grandkids are all susceptible to MH and I have thought maybe that is better than knowing for sure and letting medical staffs know. At least if you are susceptible all precautions are taken and preparation made. I know this cart is as important as Crash Carts but not always met with the same respect. It seems if they are not quite sure of a positive genetic study or old muscle biopsy it promotes readiness where as testing positive makes some professionals more relaxed and saying ok, we know what we should do and not be ready . A false sense of being aware!

My brother died from this a yr ago , My granson 18 yrs old went into surgery , surgery had not started just the anesthesia he right away went into organ breakdown died for 11 min , Because I just found out about this 1yr ago we gave the Hosp info on my brother therefore this hosp knew what was happening . Hosp my brother was in did not recognize what was going on it was to late they tried once it was recognized what was happening . If anyone in your family went through this I would have this in all my hosp records , my doctor and make sure the anesthesia doctors knows before surgery. NO GAS

Unless you can say you or a family member has experienced an actual episode of MH many places don’t even consider the possibility until they are finding someone to unlock the morgue doors! Also, I will never go to a free standing surgical center. I know my family is susceptible and each one will never go anyplace for surgery that is not 24 hour full service! Patient’s susceptibility does not end when surgery, recovery and some time post care is in progress. I don’t believe MH susceptible patients should ever have out patient general anesthesia. I believe anyone in the medical patient care aspect as well as coaches, trainers, first responders must have documented certification courses every 2 years. From doctors to medical assistants. Look what this has done for CPR!!!
