I WISH I WAS A DANCER || A beautiful little film about humans, told from the perspective of a dancer. A short contemporary dance film.
A film by Ella Rose Howlett
Starring Sara Ford & Gracie White
Many thanks to all who contributed towards the making of this film.
Had the idea after realising all humans have one thing in common - we all need progression, even if we might be the best in the world at something. So, with that, I decided telling the story from a dancer’s perspective was the right way to go.
This story was inspired by actual dancers, after interviewing each one and asking them about their dancing experience. Most of the narrative is actually what they said - I just picked out the best bits!
PLEASE Share! I’m actually super proud of this one!

BIG THANKS FOR THE LOVE! I'm sorry to be a party-pooper, but I'm just posting here because I've had quite a few problems with copyright and people using parts of this film... So much work went into this, and it kills me when I see people use my track or footage without asking, telling me or even crediting me. It's a bit upsetting because I'm so proud of this film. The music and narrative: I don't mind you using the audio or the dialogue for dancing, but please ask me, send me the film if you upload it, and credit the original video! I love to see people using this for inspiration, just please tell people where you found it! The footage and visuals: They're strictly not to be used anywhere else - I really want to try and keep them to this film, and this film alone. All you guys watching are amazing - keep dancing ya'll x

Dear Wildblooms, this is such a beautiful film. Thanks for sharing your gifts and talent in such a powerful way. I'm leading a 1-day fundraising masterclass to arts and cultural organizations in five Australian capital cities this month. May I show this film with full credits/attribution? I think it will inspire them to find purpose in their fundraising for the arts - to help more little girls (and boys) fulfill their dreams of becoming dancers, artists, film-makers, musicians....

I was really frustrated days ago but now I have already decided that once I have already dreamt about it I will fulfill it! No matter if no one is supporting me. My parents have to understand that I also got one life and I have the right to fulfill my wish! I don't want to hurt my parents so I am just working hard in silence and I will expose it when I succeed!! So, just keep going and chase the dream if you have once dreamt about it!

Don't let the decided that for you. I'm a dancer and have been for 7 years. I'm still learning but once you get into the dance community it might be akward at first but it's a loving and funny community. Of course you will have moments when you don't want to go anymore but then what? Don't let your dreams be dreams. Join a studio (If you haven't already) As one as my teachers used to say "Dancers don't need wings to fly. Even if our wings are broken we will fly again" You've got this.

Thank you so much for this videoo!! 💜💜 I wished I was a dancer, i told myself this back when i was 4 or 5 when i got put into the quior rather than the dance team in school. And though i later grew on to love singing and music, i got into traditional dancing when i was 8 and had anxiety so i couldn't really show much without fearing the people around me would judge. I then fell in love with dance again in a more beautiful way when i was 13 but i wasn't good at it and i felt like i was too old to start again.. Here I am now though 14 turning 15 still practicing and try to improve. I clicked on this video looking for motivation and i found it. Well I don't really know why im writing this but i hope it can serve as reminder to anyone who read this to not give up no matter your age and keep going as a dancer. Thank you for anyone who read all this. Let's all try to keep going.. dancers 💜

I’ve been dancing since I was 2n(I’m 12), it’s 11pm and al I can think of is all my successful friends from dance who have placed 1’st in the country and 3’rd and second and then there’s me, I’ve only been in the finales once and I’ve never placed. I’m watching this whilst stretching and breathing deep breaths, I wish I was a GOOD dancer and this just motivates me.

Hey, so I usually don't comment on youtube, but I felt like saying this: I used to be a rhythmic gymnast, so believe me I know what it feels like to suck at competitions. I think I could've gotten really good, but I just didn't love it, and it showed. Then I switched to contemporary dancing at age 17 (!) and trying to go pro now. So one of the reasons why I fell in love with dancing instantly is that it's an ART, not a sport. Sure it's important to get strong, flexible, develop a good technique etc etc - to develop a vocabulary, so to say. Ultimately what matters is that you learn to express yourself in the language you are most passionate about. It's all about the passion, which you clearly have and the expression of feelings in your dancing. Only having good technique makes you a good mover, not a dancer. So hold on to that passion. Try to get better, yes, but do so with the thought of becoming the best possible dancer YOU can become and don't compare yourself with others too much. It's shit to feel jealous and it just makes you frustrated. Some of these feelings can surely be productive, but don't let them take over you. Obviously I don't know anything about your life or how your dance community works, but I would consider putting more energy in developing your creative voice - taking part in projects, dance pieces, trying out different dance styles, going to the theater.. than taking part in competitions, because this is what will make you stand out later. And lastly, try to find good teachers and friends who support you You are so young and have so much potential... Never stop dreaming

I can't tell you how profoundly beautiful and inspiring this film is, on so many levels not just as an artist, but simply as a human, and how it captures so much of the human struggle of perfection and then letting go of that need so we can be truly free unto oneself. I showed this film to one of my Physical Theatre class's i teach for middle school and had many of the teachers in tears. Thank you.

I didn’t say anything because I figured it was too late, but it turns out ballet wasn’t just something I could forget. I’ve taken some class and it’s hard. It’s really hard. But I love it so much. Remember ABCD Any Body Can Dance Fuc/ everything and everyone. Just dance your heart out. Believe me it's the best feeling. I myself am a dancer but not that great. I don't have any confidence because people have always degraded me for dancing. 2 years back I was at that point that I was literally going to end my "dancing dream". But I said No, this is not it. Nobody can stop me. Maybe I am not perfect but you know what "Practice makes a man perfect". I practice everyday not to show anyone that I can dance but for me. For me Dance is my God and Dancing is my way of Praying. I will die without dancing. And this video made my heart bleed. I am seriously crying in a very ugly way. Haha I am sorry.

When I was around 7 my parents were forcing me join the dance classes but I was not interested in that time so my parents decided to not to force me so I stop going to dance classes. But I am regreting now cause I am not good at school and sports or any other activities my parents and teachers says that I am useless, I am not good enough, and I am not making them proud I started to get depressed. then I realised that dancing makes me happy so I started to convince my parents to let me join the dancing classes but they are not allowing me they told me to force on my studys.

I wish i was a dancer.... but i know that i could dance... i can. Dancing makes me happy... it reminds me to be myself. Dancing means a lot to me. When i was little, my biggest dream is to become a ballerina.... even though it's impossible, i'm still hoping that i could reach it. Dancing makes me feel that i'm free. I am a dancer.

You can still dance on your own, I know it seems hard but it's not. You can watch a lot of ballerinas performances (without point shoes cause they're dangerous for self taught dancers) and just get inspired by them. No matter how much it takes, you can still do it. Put some music on and imagine yourself dancing on a stage, you can still be a dancer no matter what.

heyy, unfortunatly I can't find your insta or any of your social media! It's really weird, but I still wanted to ask if I can use your audio for a school project? I know this is posted a long time ago but I hope that isn't a problem. Great video!!

I'm pretty sure Kyle Hanagami only started dancing at around 17, showing us it CAN be done, you can start late and still thrive if you put your all into it
