I Won 10,000 Dollars With This Steak Recipe | Kosmos Q...Back in 2015, I won $10,000 at the World Steak Cookoff and my life was never the same again. I have cooked thousands of steaks since then and each one teaches me something new. There are few things in life as wonderful as a great ribeye steak recipe and this one I'm sure will become your go-to when you need to kiss and make up, or blow someone's mind and shut them up. I'll start by saying this, anyone can cook a great steak, you just need someone to show you how it's done. It doesn't matter how nice your grill is either. Just get a few key things straight and before you know it you'll be giving Gordon Ramsay a run for his money! It's that easy! These are the secrets straight from the pros. Now you can show everyone who is boss when it comes to how to cook a steak.
Ingredients:
- 2 Choice or Prime Ribeye Steaks
- Kosmos Q Cow Cover Rub
- Kosmos Q Cow Cover Hot Rub
- Kosmos Q Texas Beef Rub
- Kosmos Q Dirty Bird Hot Rub
- Kosmos Q Brisket Mop
- Kosmos Q Reserve Blend Brisket Injection
- Butchers Twine
- Duck Fat Cooking Spray
- Kerry Gold Grassfed Salted Butter
Directions:
Step 1 - Tie your competition steak to help it maintain its shape during the cooking process.
Step 2 - Place your steak in the brisket mop marinade and let it marinate for 30 minutes.
Step 3 - Light your charcoal or grill and get it to 600 degrees F
Step 4 - Remove your steak from the brine and pat off the excess with paper towels.
Step 5 - Season both steaks generously with your seasoning of choice. (The competition combo is Cow Cover, Dirty Bird Hot, and Texas Beef)
Step 6 - Place your steak on the grill being mindful of its placement in order to plot out the grill marks. After 1:15 rotate the steak 45 degrees.
Step 7 - After another 1:15 flip your steak over (A total of 2:30 per side.)
Step 8 - After 1:15 has passed rotate your steak 45 degrees.
Step 9 - Baste the melted Kerry Gold Butter over the top of the steak as it reaches 127 degrees F.
Step 10 - Let your steak rest in a foil pan or something with a lid for 10-15 minutes at least.
Step 11 - Lightly dust the competition steak with a pinch of Reserve Blend Brisket Injection for added beef flavor.
Step 12 - Turn that sucker in! (Don't forget to remove your twine!)

One thing I have learned... competition grilling is not representative of the best grilling. It’s always run by suppliers like Kingsford, who pick judges with known, prescribed, tests that lean towards particular styles to make their products look good... hence, the BIG checks. After actually tasting winning results over losing results. After having my friends do their own taste tests... competitions suck. Pure and simple. I now go by the line of people waiting to buy from of a place that lives by their sales. Ever notice how many competition winners run grills/restaurants with weak sales? They don’t actually run restaurants with lines out the door. Franklins BBQ 🍖 here in Austin got no respect forever. Endless lines forced respect ✊ but it’s not the norm. FYI... not disrespecting your cooking. Looks tasty... just trying to share my experience. Taste it yourself, judge for yourself.
@politicallyincorrect633

"Competition BBQ" or "Competition Grilling" is a joke for the most part. It's cool for the fun and games but there is a big reason the best chefs in the world aren't wasting their time in these contests. Not disrespecting this dude at all, he is a stud on the grill, no doubt. But the judging is super subjective and not indicative of how successful a team of cooks could be opening a restaurant when maybe three people are judging the food, all with preconceived notions.

Great vid! Does hot & fast taste better on steaks than reverse searing and having a little smoke flavor?
@KosmosQ
@KosmosQ 4 жыл бұрын
Typically the turn in time at a steak competition (SCA Competitions) is a really tight window, usually about 15 minutes from start to finish. You can obviously have your coals hot etc before this time starts but there isn't a lot of time to reverse sear when every second counts. That's the reason for the hot and fast approach in this particular video. When I'm cooking at home or when I have more time to tinker I definitely enjoy the process of the reverse sear and really driving in smoke flavor! Hope that helps!

I've been doing your SCA steak competition winner from a previous video and telling my family and friends that was the exact recipe that won. Don't get me wrong it was absolutely amazing! But that video never showed the brisket mop or the sprinkling on top afterwards like this one. It did show the butter dripping after the flip but this video didn't. 🤔 Love your videos and products!

Tried the comp steak method today. Now I'm usually a salt and pepper and that's it guy. I can't stand the "season salt" flavor on a lot of these steaks on youtube. But this from the mop to the Cow Cover/Tex Beef/Dirty B Hot all the way to the Reserve sprinkled on at the end. It's like 10 notches up. The eye to the cap tender and glazed with spices. Thanks Kosmo for sharing game changers for us mortals!

Watched this 3 times, never saw where the butter was actually used, just mentioned & seen it in the montage shots. You do a quick brush before to help with grill marking or afterward for the rest? I was dreaming about this steak last night, reordering some Kosmo’s supplies this morning. Wish you’d done this video last week, nothing this holiday weekend will live up to what I imagine this is like.

@@Hellion6325 He didn't use his brand of seasonings when he won it. He used a recipe. Now he has his own line of seasonings, which are over $10 per bottle. This is not a recipe, it is an actual sales pitch. I am fairly certain that is why people are disliking the video. So to cook this recipe, you need over $60 in spices, but for a back yard steak, you only need $20 in seasonings from him.
@Ca55per
@Ca55per 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hellion6325 Precisely what thenerdnetwork said. To be clear, I did not "dislike" the video. But, the thought did cross my mind. I came here for a "recipe" and not $50 worth of prepackaged product, which doesn't even include the "recipe". I want to be able to make my own marinade and spice rubs... this doesn't even lend me inspiration. He made $10,000 on a winning steak, and eventually became a millionaire on his "how to" videos and line of sauces and spices. This is the same as a "free conference" where you can learn to sell houses, without using your own money. All you have to do is "buy my book." That guy may have made his initial money, buying and selling houses... but now, he is getting rich on selling books... and, the book probably won't actually help. I like to watch cooking content on KZbin... but, not for the slow motion close-up images of medium rare steaks... I want recipes, so I can compare them with my own, try them out, and identify what I can change to improve on mine without just ripping off the other guy. On this guy's channel, the answers that I came for are hidden behind a pay-wall and don't even come with the answers. This is called "dishonest" self-advertisement.
