Where to start for a newbie rider. Ditch the moccasins. Nice heavy duty 8" steel toed boots. No shorts, please. Leather coat, fastened up fully a good start. See if there is a MSF course offered in Oklahoma City. Some motorcycle dealerships offer them or private parties. Their beginner course teaches you how to ride 250cc bikes in a parking lot over the weekend. If you pass the course, most states let you get a M class endorsement on your license by just showing your completion certificate at the DMV and taking a written test. Can get a discount on insurance too.

You got a great time for first time use. People get a 250 or 300 and they grow out of it within Few months. Just take it slow and don't repair the outside 100% that way you won't feel bad Scott dropping it. This is great!!!
@Carls_World3 жыл бұрын
S few things you should remember when riding. 1. When it feels like it's falling and you have the room slowly and quickly increase throttle and it will bring you up straight. 2. Remember you're on a bike. Even when you're way more confident and you feel great. People tend to get this mentality that they are a badass but cars can just run you over. Don't get hot headed and think you're invincible. 3. Ride in a group as much as you can and learn from them. 4. Pretend and practice, similar to dismantling a gun or typing, go thru gears and scenarios in your head while you're watching TV, movies, and have time 5. Relax and have fun.

Been riding for 3 years now and still learning all the time. Love the video! I really like the bike and I don’t think it’s bad at all for the price. Biggest tip I could give to any new rider is to stay away from that front brake any time you are turning or leaning at all. The front brakes on bikes are really touchy and that’s how most beginners eat it. I’m sure you will hear that from a lot of other riders also.

Good job Randy, I was a little hesitant and scared to when I bought my first bike, but once I went through the safety training course I came out with a better understanding and knowledge of how motorcycles operate and it did boost my confidence up some as well. I been riding since April 1st of this year so I'm still new to it, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. Biggest advice I can give is there will be crazy drivers out there that don't like motorcycles so do your best to steer clear when available to do so. 3rd time out for me I had a person in an XC90 Volvo SUV put mine and my buddies life at risk when we were on our motorcycles by passing us and 2 other vehicles with a double solid line and on a blind up hill bend. It was scary for both of us. Anyway, enjoy your new motorcycle and yes I know this video has been up for about a month, but I'm just getting back to your videos now. Keep on keepin' on (btw I ride a 2003 Honda Shadow ACE 750CC)

My nephew bought a nice Harley sportster, he knows how to ride. About a week later he was cruising and a jacked up pickup came flying out of a bar parking lot ,and ran right into him. The owner of the truck s insurance paid but the guy only lost his license even after having multiple drunk driving offences. Be very careful Randy!

Take a motorcycle endorsement course too. There's a video you can watch too.. Then you be ready to take your riding test for your license. I don't think the 690 is too big to learn on, sure first bike could always be a low CC one but it can also be a 600 or a 1000, it also depends if you want to upgrade later on, say you learn on a 250, you probably ride it for 2 or 3 years, but if you learn on a 600 or more you can keep it longer, Snowcat here on youtube has a 690 duke aswell, best bike he's ever owned he said

I started off on a Yamaha 1300 sport touring bike.... not an easy feat but I learned a lot about weight and balance. I ended up taking that bike on a few camping trips, which was an experience in itself . Before hopping that machine, I took a MSF course. It was a two day course which fully licensed me as a legal motorcycle rider. Getting in that bike was risky but you did it in an enclosed area , away from the street where you could cause damage to other people property as well as yourself. The point I am getting at is take a riders course before you hit the streets and always wear a helmet.

KBB trade is $3200, list is $5400. Looks like the plastics are in decent shape. Just take it slow and easy and t will be a good first bike. Most people go through their first bike within a year if they get a smaller CC bike, like a 300. If you keep the bike, the 690 will treat you good.
