@@wes11bravo well that’s one way to look at it. For a small business owner, flipping multiple cars at a time. Such a tow unit that can be driven with a normal licence. Reliable. You only use it for loads. Many of the old army vehicles the usa left in 1945 still drives. And this unit is like it’s hercules brother compared to those old sixes and v8’s. Cars are getting rediculously complex. So for them to have such a old truck they can spend a few hundred on. Patch it. Get a seat out of a junker. And use. That’s not a bad deal. Even at that gas mileage. Where a big rig would do about the same. And now this one does 4x4.

Back in the day I bought a 1992 Honda Civic LX sedan with a D15B7 1.5L SOHC non-VTEC engine with a 5 speed manual that had a blown head gasket from a state park ranger in Elyria, OH and I bought it for $900 and drove it home 2.5 hours without a single issue until I got to the toll booths in Beaver Falls, PA when it released a HUGE cloud of white smoke. It ran mint the entire time until I got to those toll booths and slowed down, then the oil light came on and the cloud formed. I tore everything down and replaced the head gasket, the timing belt, and the water pump the next day, but the damage had already been done because the oil pump was trashed due to the amount of coolant that was in the oil. It didn't matter because I bought that car to swap the engine with a JDM D15B VTEC and a JDM Del Sol Si close ratio 5 speed manual. I put one of those whale penis intakes on it with a K&N filter, a set of AEM headers on it, and a full 2.5" eBay exhaust on it. It really didn't sound terrible or raspy, but it was still slow. I sold it for $1500 2 years later and bought a 1992 Cadillac Eldorado for $1600 with a 4.9L V8. I LOVED that Cadillac and best thing about it, it ALWAYS passed emissions.

Great content! Resetting the codes legitimately can stop a misfire after the actual problem is fixed. On some vehicles, once the ECU detects a misfire, it will stop firing that cylinder's fuel injector to protect the catalytic converter from unburned fuel and sometimes it won't start firing the fuel injector again (at least for a while) until the codes are cleared.
@officiallennon38762 жыл бұрын
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@averyalexander23032 жыл бұрын
@PatientXero Correct, I never said it was. What I meant is that the ECU might have still had the fuel injector shut down after he changed the fouled spark plug since it had the code stored and clearing the code should re enable the fuel injector if it was disabled due to the misfire. I don't know if Fords did that back then, but I have seen more modern Fords shut down fuel injectors when a misfire is detected.
@alb123456722 жыл бұрын
@@averyalexander2303 Fords have a blinking check engine light if it detects a catalyst damaging misfire. It may turn the injector off for a minute then turn back on to test. Drivability wise you get a rumble like a bad torque converter. There is also a threshold to cause a code and illuminate a light. Some scanners have a special mode that shows EVERY misfire, no matter how small. I found this by diagnosing a bad coil on my 6.2L F150.
@nitronick56592 жыл бұрын
We're talking about a 1999 model here. Not a chance in hell the ECM is shutting down injectors because of a non firing coil or plug.
@noway9880 Жыл бұрын
This varies, but all of them will attempt again after the next key cycle. The process repeats then. After X number of continuous misfires, stop injector for 2 minutes. Retry. Twice more like this and injector OFF for the rest of the drive, until next restart. It does help the cat..people determined to ruin it will still do so.

You probably already know this but, the Triton V-10 and V-8 had a head issue. They would "spit out " plugs. That contraption you found with the plug in it might have been their way to try and fix it. The most common things for it was to put a helicoil in there. The fact that you have no dash lights or gauges or speedometer tells me you definitely have a wiring issue as my 98 E350 has an electronic speedometer that does not run off of a cable. Also, the misfire could still be the coil but not be the coil itself but, be a bad connection in the plug. I ran into that with my V-10.

Dunno whether this is already in the comments but the early 2000 V10 has less than a quarter inch of cylinder head threads for the plugs to engage but the plugs themselves have way more threads on them than that. Carbon builds up on the exposed threads during normal use and when they are removed, the carbon compromises the threads in the cylinder heads. Using a penetrating oil or spray when removing plugs and a back and forth gradual technique will allow removal with little or no damage. If you force them out in a single step, there WILL BE damage, and the plugs may be ejected at a future date from the cylinder head during normal operation. Good job Ford! There are retrofit kits which require tapping of new threads, installation of new sleeves, blah, blah, blah.
@tdotw77 Жыл бұрын
12:44 That low beeping is because the air bag light bulb is out. It will ding randomly until the bulb is fixed. Ecm is letting you know the air bags (may) not be working & you should check it out. Maybe when you get it home, you could remove that V10 engine entirely and drop in a diesel. Those trucks with diesel engines can bring good money. And I imagine with a bit of body work, a little rewiring, and a diesel engine, you could turn a $900 rig into a $12000 one. The SUV version of this truck with the diesel is going for a ton of money right now. So if you can legally diesel convert it, the payout could be pretty nice.

Nice thing about those Ford's with the 4.6 and i'm guessing the v10 is the heater core is behind the dash... absolute nightmare to fix, remove the dash, wiring, etc. If you don't fix it you won't be able to drive in the cold, windshield will fog up either way if you use the heat or not. When you use the heat you will have windows covered in greasy antifreeze. I fixed one on a Marquis, miserable... The second, they all leak eventually, i used k-seal and it worked for now but it needs replacement. 4.6 is a great motor but that heater core issue makes me never want another unless it's been replaced recently...

Use that TRX for what you want to use it for. Also it could be the clock spring since the truck had airbag deployment is why the horn probably doesn’t work. And why you are having that beeping is because of the airbag the light is probably on telling you to service the system.

Three Items of personal experience.. The tape over the airbag does not mean deployment. The plastic cover has a tear seam that breaks so the easiest fix is duct tape... Also under that steering wheel plastic cover is a spring mattress type switch that is flat for the horn. When the plastic degrades the horn will sound and not stop ... Second the instrument cluster regulates the output of the alternator through the volt meter ,,, Third is the plugs blow out if you dont check them and change regularly or if you over torque they will also cause problems the adapter I am sure should be glued to the head and then the plug installed after the bolt glue dries .

Cool,, and I am guessing that harness you removed from under the dash is probably someone's aftermarket attempt at remote start or a car alarm.. and back to my 90 dodge Dakota SE it was fuel injection and you had to pump the throttle and hold the pedal part way down to the floor to get it to start and then it would have be held until the truck started to warm up and then it would not die, and the 80 Chevy c20 had a 68 Chevy c10 4.1 litre 250 cubic inch L6 and except for the carb needing rebuilt it had no accelerator pump, the dome light and the right rear reverse light worked. Truck had several bare wires under the bed, the hood and under the dash.. motor sounded good lol 3 inch straight pipe to the middle of underneath the bed truck had a Westin drop center 10 inch bumper and the outer shell is pulled from the driver side towards the receiver hitch and turns out the th250 c transmission was from a 85 Chevy Monte Carlo cl with a 4.3 tbi fuel injection and all the brakes were bad!! The front brakes were seized up until they weren't and then the brake rotors started grinding and it sounded like howling it was so loud and smoke pouring out from both front fenders,, and I was in the process of replacing the brakes in the front and the brake hoses in the front, the proportioning valve and the brake lines half way to the back of the truck and got out from under the truck to go in the garage and get the flare nut wrenches and two different types of channel lock brand pliers 410 nut buster grip pliers and the 430 medium size tongue and groove pliers and then I got thirsty so I had walked over to the back door on the house and no sooner stepped inside the kitchen and hear kabamm freak and metal slamming down hard. Walk back out to the garage and the 80 Chevy c20 is now squatting in the back sitting on 3 ton jack stands shocks had blown out and dearched the 8 leaf spring packs, and I am like you know what that's it I'm done I'm not fixing this piece of shit.. someone else can own it preferably the junkyard.. and I jacked it up and took it off the ramps and jackstands and drove it out back and parked it and that is where it was sitting when I had someone ask me about it's drivetrain and rear 4.56 geared gm corporate 14 bolt semi floating rear end and traded it off to help my aunt get a 2wd Chevy S10 extended cab sport trim long bed 2.8 Napa brand crate motor 173 cubic inch v6 tbi and 5spd she wanted to drive it in the winter... Honestly I can say I don't miss either truck and because of them I was alot more careful of what Indiana treasures and Ohio treasures my local Indiana birthplace has landed me lol but those two are by far the worst... trucks I have ever owned and I have drove some sketchy stuff trust me lol

If there was one gripe I had with my Ford truck with a Triton engine, it’s that the thing was the PICKIEST engine I have ever seen in my life when it comes to misfires. If something wasn’t *just* right, it would miss. Great truck, just drove me absolutely insane.

Good thing is you are in Terre Haute. There is a good Dealer Only auction in town. If you get anything bad and had to dump one, They pick up too
